Went there with our riding group for lunch. Plenty of seating on the patio for our group of nearly 20 people. Our table had, shrimp PO-boy, Cuban sandwich, Vermont burger, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and jalapeño potato barrels. The menu selection is up to date, price and quality very good, and portions are plenty, It wouldn't offend me if the side of coleslaw was bigger. Staff was friendly, confirmed orders, and attentive with refills. Service was good, especially when 20ish folks show up, I think we call ahead so it's not a surprise. So now the reasons they only got 3 stars. The picnic table we sat at seemed like it was 2-3" short for adults, leg cramper all around. Maybe a little bit picky, but we did have to ask for napkins and silverware. However my biggest reason is for one of my restaurant pet peeves: servers not knowing what is not available on the menu. Both appetizers we originally wanted were not available, which we were told 15 min+ after placing the order. However we were only charged for the lower cost original appetizers we ordered which was nice.

Rusted Nail is the only decent place in Ashley. It looks like it's pretty modern. The interior is clean and there's plenty of TVs. It has some good liquor. The food is mostly barbecue and fried stuff. It doesn't have much competition. It really doesn't even have to try and they would still be okay. The only other restaurants looked like an ice cream place and a nasty looking pizza place. It seems to be more of a bar. The food doesn't look the least bit healthy. It's very meat centric. The rest seems to be fried stuff. I had a Jameson and ginger ale. It's about $5 for a glass. This is a pretty average price. It's one of the few bars or restaurants in the area. It's not that far from Delaware State Park. This is a dining option if you're camping there.

Great food and hot bartenders! The kitchen chef even drank a beer with me and I was able to get a spliff out back 10 out of 10 stars!

Home of the Famous Bologna Sandwich…read more That's the bold claim G & R Tavern has been making in Waldo, Ohio for more than 60 years, and judging by the line waiting outside when we arrived shortly after noon, plenty of people believe it. Located in a village of about 300 residents, G & R Tavern has become one of Ohio's most popular destination restaurants. Visitors come from all over the state to try the sandwich that put this small-town tavern on the map. Founded in 1962 by George Yake and Roy Klingel, G & R Tavern has become a true Ohio institution. In 1985, Rick's family purchased the restaurant and has continued the tradition ever since. During our visit, I had the opportunity to speak with Rick and learn that the next generation is already preparing to carry on the family tradition. In a time when many independent restaurants struggle to survive from one generation to the next, that's something worth celebrating. The atmosphere is exactly what longtime fans have come to love. Wood-paneled walls, a bustling dining room, homemade pies in the dessert case, and an old-school charm that feels increasingly rare today. Even the cash-only policy somehow feels right at home here. As for the famous sandwich, it continues to live up to its reputation. This Ohio classic features a thick-cut slice of fried bologna topped with melted American cheese, sweet pickles, and onion on a soft bun. It's simple, flavorful, and easy to understand why people continue making the trip to Waldo year after year. Perhaps the strongest endorsement came from my wife, who ordered the fried bologna sandwich as well. That's not something she would normally choose, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. The fries were hot and crispy and made a great companion to the meal. Some places become popular for a season. Places like G & R Tavern become part of Ohio's history. Backstretch is super casual (given Ohio Wesleyan is nearby - its almost a college/town bar) but great to come in a sit at the bar or one of their booths. It isnt big, maybe 15-20 bar stools and 12 booths and 1-2 tables. This time we picked a booth and a great server (Jacobi) helped us right away. Fun part of backstretch is the staff. Servers are friendly, you can watch the cooks prepare your food, and they have a full bar. Note they dont have many draft beer options, but servers tried hard to get us something we liked. Food here is fresh off the grill and tastes like home cooked food - from their Reuben(which was amazing) to Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich (has kick but so good) - you cant go wrong. This time we added Tots, Mac and Cheese, and the Deviled eggs (most sandwiches are served with a deviled egg - tasty). We also tried Jacobi recommendation of Hencock Tots - wing sauce - cheese and bacon. Should have just made that my meal. Amazing. They dont take reservations but unless there is an event in downtown, you can usually walk in for dinner. This was our third visit in 60 days! Ready to go back - thanks Jacobi for a fun night and see you all soon.
