Amazed that one lady takes care of the tables and the cooking alone. It's Friday morning 8am. Breakfast was perfect. Service outstanding.

Nice vintage diner feel. Friendly staff and good food made quick. Unfortunately no refills on drinks and cash only!

Behind the counter was the proprietor, Diane, running the show behind the grill, and her two lovely daughters Rachel and Ruth were taking orders and helping out.

If anyone has followed my reviews, I try to eat at local restaurants and give fair and honest reviews. We drove from Pittsburgh to Buffalo and decided to stop at Shirley's for breakfast. The restaurant was busy we had to wait about five minutes for a table. The restaurant just serves breakfast and brunch and had a typical diner interior. We sat down and got our drinks right away. The coffee was hot. The waitress Michele came over and took our order. my wife's order was fine. She ordered the omelette and Texas toast came out perfect. My order was a different story. I ordered the number 4, 2 eggs over easy hashbrowns breakfast sausage, patty, and Italian toast with no butter. Nothing out of the ordinary, but the waitress brought me my plate with the toast very barely toasted and the hashbrowns should've been called hash whites because they were not cooked and they were cold. Take a look at the picture. No waitress should be bringing this to a patron. Look at this picture and make your own decision. Zoom in to the top of the plate, what is that? I did ask to have my toast darker but I did not want to send my whole plate back because my wife was already eating her breakfast. When I was paying my bill, I was asked how was everything and I explained that my breakfast was cold. The manager or owner came over asked a few questions and apologized. I said it's not your fault and I'm not looking to have anything comped. I just made the statement that I came in for a hot breakfast and I got a cold one. There are a lot of restaurants in Erie and unfortunately, I picked the wrong one for breakfast.

Taking the exit and driving into Ripley only took in total 10 extra minutes and it was well worth it, both for the fare offered there and for a glimpse into a small American town, which is somewhat outside of my experience, being a big city person. It was the bacon that spurred me to write this review. Perfectly cooked, not too chewy, not brittle and overcooked. Bacon was just part of the Breakfast Supreme, which lived up to its name: very tasty sausage patties, well but not too well scrambled eggs, rye toast and the potatoes! Fried in bacon fat perhaps? Crispy around the edges but still somewhat soft in the center. Perfection. What wasn't perfect, in fact , was far from perfect, was the coffee. But coffee for me must meet a very high standard. Unfair in a diner setting. So, the coffee was what it was. The wait staffers seemed to be part of the stalwart crew there. Bringing dignity to a practice that some dismiss as mere "service" jobs. So, off to Meeders you go when you are looking for breakfast in a non-corporate setting.

I could barely swallow it because it had so little gravy It is served very cleverly with the heap of potatoes and biscuit nearly filling the bowl. That allows for the tiniest bit of chicken and gravy to be served over it. After the first couple bites, the rest of your meal is plain potato and dry biscuit. The only redeeming part of the meal was the small serving of coleslaw. I had asked if I could substitute my mash potato and told no ,this is the way it's served. Now I know why. This allows mainly dry starch to be served at a bigger margin. Some of the food there is great but this is the second special I have had that was sub par. The pie , French fries and breakfasts are good. I always feel like an outsider when we eat there. I think a lot of the clientele is local and it's just never a super friendly atmosphere. The prices here are not inexpensive. I don't mind paying more but I would expect the quality to be in line with the price. I think it's best left to the locals unfortunately. We have been coming here for many years but I think that may be ending.

Tried their omelet with hash brown, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I really like their crispy hash brown. Waitstaff is very nice and service was quick. The parking situation is quite tricky here, as they have a small parking lot right behind the restaurant, that would only fit about 5-6 cars. If you go during rush hours you might have to park on the street instead. Do not park in the lot on the right side of the building as there is a sign notifying that you will get towed

I'm actually not a huge breakfast eater, so I went with my standard 2 eggs, toast, and breakfast potatoes. I thought the bread was nice and fresh (though not exactly toasty), and the potatoes were for sure fresh cut, which was a really nice touch. I also had a garden salad, which was a pretty standard diner salad - romaine, some tomatoes, shredded cheese, and olives as a surprise addition. Decent size and price. The service was quick and so was our food. I thought it was a solid breakfast. Note - there is no parking, so we parked a block or so away and walked.
