Actually, Siri recommended Meeder's (in a manner of speaking) while looking for breakfast spot to break the monotony of a long drive and wanting to get off the regular circuit of the chain restaurant franchises on the interstate. Taking the exit and driving into Ripley only took in total 10 extra minutes and it was well worth it, both for the fare offered there and for a glimpse into a small American town, which is somewhat outside of my experience, being a big city person. It was the bacon that spurred me to write this review. Perfectly cooked, not too chewy, not brittle and overcooked. Bacon was just part of the Breakfast Supreme, which lived up to its name: very tasty sausage patties, well but not too well scrambled eggs, rye toast and the potatoes! Fried in bacon fat perhaps? Crispy around the edges but still somewhat soft in the center. Perfection. What wasn't perfect, in fact , was far from perfect, was the coffee. But coffee for me must meet a very high standard. Unfair in a diner setting. So, the coffee was what it was. The wait staffers seemed to be part of the stalwart crew there. Bringing dignity to a practice that some dismiss as mere "service" jobs. Step back 50 years and saunter into this diner close to the PA border that has intentionally remained in a time warp. Meeder's Restaurant has been a family operation for 50+ years. Its history is written on the menu. And if you're from another country and want to experience authentic American food in an authentic American atmosphere, Meeder's is one place to do so. And I did. Half of the tables were taken up with locals catching up on the latest happenings - or maybe complaining about how New York City is still bleeding them dry, with the support of the morons in Albany. You never know. It appears to be a mom-and-pop operation, with a businesslike Mom handling the money and an excitable Pop waiting the tables. A Norman Rockwell picture come to life. I had the quarter pound burger, with chips and a pickle on the side. The patty was pretty good, done medium well. And not much else. Unlike a chicken sandwich, which does not need extra stuff to make it taste good, burgers do need extras like lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, bacon, roasted garlic, pico de gallo, and others to add to the taste. And this burger simply did not have enough. A little pricey. On the other hand, remember what I wrote about NYC bleeding Upstate and Western NY dry? Smart people are moving out of the state, if they can sell their houses. There is not much money to go around here. Food you get never looks like what the cook is eating. Had probably the worst chicken and biscuits I've ever had. I could barely swallow it because it had so little gravy It is served very cleverly with the heap of potatoes and biscuit nearly filling the bowl. That allows for the tiniest bit of chicken and gravy to be served over it. After the first couple bites, the rest of your meal is plain potato and dry biscuit. The only redeeming part of the meal was the small serving of coleslaw. I had asked if I could substitute my mash potato and told no ,this is the way it's served. Now I know why. This allows mainly dry starch to be served at a bigger margin. Some of the food there is great but this is the second special I have had that was sub par. The pie , French fries and breakfasts are good. I always feel like an outsider when we eat there. I think a lot of the clientele is local and it's just never a super friendly atmosphere. The prices here are not inexpensive. I don't mind paying more but I would expect the quality to be in line with the price. I think it's best left to the locals unfortunately. I have been here several times and was never disappointed. The waiting staff has been around for a long time at this location and know exactly how to treat their customers. I have been here for breakfast and lunch and the food does not disappoint. I don't think there's a single thing on the menu that you can go wrong with. This is a very neat diner and the decor inside.. I also have fresh made pies that you can also get to go if you eat too much while you're there. I don't think I can possibly make a more emphatically positive recommendation than the one I'd make for Meeder's. We happened across this incredible classic diner while driving home to Cleveland a few years ago. The diner gods brought us in by chance on one of the days they were grilling chicken outside and the aroma brought us in. There service was terrible we came and waited 15-20 minutes for someone to wait on us and almost another half an hour for food. There was six of us and multiple other people who weren't with us got there food before our group. Not happy. Not satisfied. Would not recommend. Bathroom doors don't shut and paper towels don't even work. Put this place out of business. I would like to give this place a zero but the food was good just not huge portions climax of the meal. The food was good: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, 3 bean salad and a few chunks of watermelon. The meal was rather small but only because I got it free from a card issued to senior citizens from the Chautaqua County Office for Aging Services. Ordered a sausage pepper and onion sandwich with fries. Sausage was way over cooked, dry and tasteless. Fries were way over salted. Not a pleasant experience. We did notify the waitress who said she would let Sheila know. We'll nothing more was said. After looking up the restaurant and learning of several health violations I am sorry we chose to have lunch at this establishment. Meeders restaurant was the place to go for a real nice Diner atmosphere. But for the last couple visits it hasn't been up to par. My feelings is management has lost the love! Our waitress was out of short mixed up orders and forgot our request a multitude of times. Both visits it took over a hour to be serviced? When the order arrived one meal was missing along with parts of another and my roast beef sandwich came without gravy which I asked for? Management should work with staff to help adjust these issues. I do understand the with inflation rising,prices have to increase slightly but a milkshake 7.00$ for 8 oz glass ? I remember when you get metal mixing shaker along with 6oz glass that would knock off your shocks. LG out! read more

There are few things about the small town American experience more defining than eating at an old school diner. Meeder's definitely fits the bill. No frills is the best way to describe the place. We sat in a booth with my wife's grandfather and his wife. It was comfortable but a little cramped with our winter coats and bags. The food was typical diner fare - I had a grilled chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce and cheese on a white bun and my wife had a BLT. Both were adequate but nothing special. Service was prompt, although they had run out of the homemade whole wheat bread that my wife had wanted for her sandwich. Apparently they are known for their yummy pies and milkshakes, however, we didn't indulge. Given the limited choices in Ripley for food, stop in for a bite if you are hungry but keep your expectations fairly low. read more

Meeder's is a hidden gem in Western, NY. Our fireworks-seeking adventure left us famished, and we struggled to find an open restaurant in the middle of the day on a Thursday. Boy, am I glad we found Meeder's! The staff (and other patrons) were very friendly and accommodating. They had a hugeeee selection of homemade pies and milkshakes. Pretty sure I've eaten here for the last time. The menu is good and the portions are OK. However, the food quality is really not good. And I know people will hate on this, but the pies are crap. Last visit a couple days ago, I was part of a party of 3 at lunch time. All of us had pie and it looked awful - more of a cobbler since it was all broken apart and just a heap on the plate. I ordered Nutter Butter Peanut pie, but it was all gone, so the waitress brought me Peanut Butter pie instead (without asking if I'd like something else) and it was severed warm so the pie was completely separated and really disgusting. Blackberry pie was also a big mess and the banana cream pie was also served hot - really gross. We left most of the food served to us (none of which was anything other than heated up frozen food) on the table and ate only a few bites of the pie. Service was also bad. We were pushed to keep moving on everything and were not given enough time to order. I REALLY hate that. Overall, it's just not worth the trip or the effort or the money. read more

In the ol' pie vs. cake debate, I'm team pie 100%. This post is for my other pie people, and those who are on the fence.... Meeder's has the best homemade pie I've had in the US. I was visiting family in Ripley, and had the cherry pie after dinner on our second night, and then the strawberry-rhubarb pie for breakfast (yep!) before leaving town. Meeder's makes their pie with the double crust, 1 on the bottom and then a flakey, crumbly crust on top. Each time we were there, they had about 10-12 pies available for the day. They ranged from fruit to custard to chocolate. Both pies were made with fresh fruit. They were slightly tart, and had the perfect crust to fruit ratio. The servings were enough for two to share or having some leftover to take home. I had a salmon dinner and shared an egg breakfast with the pie too. It was also delicious. My boy friend's comment about this place is "They have fantastic food, and they really don't have to..." because they're in a small town. Do your taste buds a favor and check out Meeder's! read more

I used to love going to Meeder's 2-3 times a month. Then the Pandemic then the after affect's. I have only been 2 times in the past 4 months not because the food is not good it is really good. Not because the atmosphere is still a good old diner hole in the wall. No I don't go because I understand inflation but the prices at Meeder's has risen so high I can go to fine dining establishments and pay less money. I could understand a little increase but, the prices are so high it is not worth the value anymore. You can tell it must be affecting their business I went on a Saturday at 5:30 and only one other table besides myself and they ended up sharing a burger and fries since the prices were so high. So very sad that the pandemic has ruined one of my favorite places to grab a quick good food at a reasonable price. If I want to pay these prices I will go to a fine dining establishmment. I ordered broiled Cajun and got something else. The waitress explained to me that there was a new cook, and he messed up the order. She told me to keep that fish and she would get me another in Cajun. I got my Cajun fish and ate it and since she told me, I could keep the other fish I asked for a to-go container. The bill came and It was $38 for two fish dinners even though the second fish had no sides. The owner then stopped by and said to me "I here you didn't like the flavor of the fish" obviously not getting the complete story from the waitress, and told me that I had to pay for both meals because I was taking one home. I left it at the table went to the register and they wanted me to pay for two fish dinners. Otherwise they wanted me to talk to the owner again, I paid the bill and left.
