    10/15/22 Neat and nicly stocked.

10/20/22 On 10/15/22 I decided to check out this store while while waiting for my orders of popcorn chicken at Vivi Bubbles Tea. The staff was in the back of the store having some sort of discussion about men in Russian. Okay, maybe not men, but something. This gave me a chance to look around at the amount of meats they had. This store had a number of chocolate candies from Russia too. Some of the names I have never heard of. Others were knockoff versions of popular American sodas and snacks. I was tempted to buy some candies, but the though of the delicious garlic popcorn chicken played in my mind and I didn't give into the temptation. I do know the next time I come here, I will end up buying something. The store looked well organized and the employees I saw asked me if I needed assistance politely. Since I was just looking, they left me alone. I will definitely be back.

Very pleasant and many selections. All the food I bought is yummy. The peach gingerbread cookies went well with my tea I bought. I recommend getting the Russian Cheese " " from their deli and Zefir " " from the sweets selections. Customer service was exceptional!

That thoughtfulness is one of the many reasons I was excited to try it. When we arrived, I was initially concerned after learning that the "G" on the menu indicated dishes **containing** gluten rather than being gluten-free. Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. She brought me the food allergy menu, answered my questions with patience, and made sure I understood what was safe for me to enjoy. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. If you have food intolerances or dietary restrictions, I hope this review gives you confidence to visit Ambar. Their team didn't just accommodate my needs. They made me feel welcome, respected, and cared for. That's the kind of hospitality that earns five stars from me.

To my luck, we had great Uzbek food less than 15 mins away! It was a while ago but we ordered the samsa, manti, kutabi, plov, and chohohbli, and I can't recall what else but we loved it! Last night my husband and I decided to dine in. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with cultural artifacts and art. This may just be a me thing but the serveware was envy worthy. It was gorgeous. I'm obsessed with beautiful dishware. There were only two people taking orders and serving food for an almost full dining room so we were understanding of a bit of a wait time. The staff were very friendly and checked in on us when they could. We ordered the khachipuri, samsa, oxtail, chohobli, steamed rice, pilmeni, and hot tea. Both the khachipuri and samsa were flaky pastries: khachapuri filled with a salty stretchy cheese with a cheese pull that tasted better than it was Instagram-able and samsa filled with a savory meat/onion mixture served with a tomato based sauce. Get one per person because you will not want to share. We ordered fried mini dumplings which are filled with meat and also served with same tomato based sauce that came with the samsa. They were delicious but afterwards I saw that you can get them steamed in a broth, I told myself I have to get that next time. The slow-cooked, tender oxtail was served over the best crispy, fat-fried potatoes I've ever had. The chohobli (chicken stew) was fall off the bone into a delicious tomato-based stew. We ordered the rice to sop up the delicious stew. The tea really helped to cut the richness of all the delicious food. I have not shut up about this place since we had this meal. I will rave about it to just about anyone that will listen in hopes that they will come with me next time so we can order more dishes to share.

I've been seeing some Eastern European mukbangs on Instagram and thought the food looked good. I'm all for new cultural experiences. So I found this place on Yelp and thought I'd give Russian food another try. I knew Russian food is simple and clean, and I knew the backstory to the Borsch dish. That's all I really knew lol... when I tell you the flavors shocked me! It was so delicious and flavorful. And yes, the meat tasted high quality and clean as expected. I ordered to-go (Manti and Borsch), and my food was smelling so good in the car. I was nervous about the Borsch. I like beets but not that much. So when I took a sip of the soup, it was tangy and very delicious. I'm so glad I got it and didn't chicken out. It tasted like a good beef soup with a slight beet and tangy taste. Perfect and filling! I will definitely be getting it again. The Manti was also very delicious. At first it didn't seem like a lot, but it's packed with meat. I was stuffed for 4 hours straight. I believe it had parsley, dill, onion, and fennel, but I am unsure of what herbs are native in Eastern Europe and Russia. They also have a mini market full of Russian foods and snacks. I think I saw pickled herring in the fridge which I will go back to buy. I see people eating it online and I want to try it myself. I will definitely be coming back here and may bring my friends. The prices are high, but the meat quality and taste are worth it for me. I may go again tomorrow lol. The space also looked very nice and was clean. Give this place a try! You won't regret it! See you soon, Rus Uz! I think I'm an addict now lol.

Unfortunately it never came back in our area. We stalked and studied its location pattern for months. Finally this past Wednesday, it came back! My husband and I each ordered the two blintzes (one meat and one chicken) with borsch special $11 - we thought about sharing but let's be honest, no. The owner was extremely friendly and even threw in a complimentary kale salad for us in celebration of their 1 yr anniversary! I loved their crepe skin! it's a bit fluffier, thicker, and sweeter than French or Japanese version. In fact, a little closer to American pancake consistency. Meat version - overstuffed with delicious mixture of rice, ground meat, and veggie bits. Reminded me of the stuffed cabbage center in Eastern European cuisine! The spicy marinara sauce paired so well. Wished I ordered two of these! Chicken version - similar to (canned) chicken salad. It lacked the cheesiness and creaminess it advertised. The mushroom sauce did help but it was too runny. Flavor was fine but meat version was just 10x better. Borsch and kale salad - both were refreshing, tasty side options. Choose depending on your mood for the perfect pairing. Overall - meat blintzes all day every day (I do have a troubling obsession with everything crepes). Hope the truck makes another round back in my area soon.

That alone reeled us in. Physical Exam: Food - The Borscht was delicious and savory -- a classic, strong start. The Varenyky (pierogi's Ukrainian cousin) comes in four options and we opted for potato and short rib, and both were amazing. Also generously filled. With Eastern European food, I've always got a soft spot for a stuffed cabbage dishes, and the Meat Holubtsi did not disappoint. Next, the Deruny presented crispy and potatoey -- very similar dish to latkes. And because it was brunch, we got into the crepes: the Nalysnyky with chicken, onion, and mushroom was super good. Across the board, everything came back well within delicious limits. Ambiance - We were seated outdoors on a gorgeous day and there was nice sunshine and a light breeze. Honestly it was so beautiful. Service - Kind and attentive the whole way through. Appropriate bedside manner. Assessment: A thoroughly enjoyable Ukrainian brunch, and a great find given how rarely this cuisine turns up around here. (Since then I found out there's one in DC itself!) Every dish we ordered delivered on its promised, the service was lovely, and setting was nice. No adverse findings. Plan: - Go. Highly recommend. - Order a spread and share to get the most of the variety. - Follow up to evaluate dessert, such as Honey Cake.

Pizza plus delicious pierogis and more!…read more A friend told us about a surprise-menu at Harbor Pizza: Ukranian pierogis! Crepes! Borscht! At a place named "pizza"! We rushed over for take-out. We got potato pierogis, and they are excellent! The filling is creamy and buttery. The sour cream on the side is fresh individual packets. The grilled caramelized onion topping was soft and flavorful and generous. Most importantly, the dough is thin and tender, so the boiled pierogis have the lightest bite, and the fried ones have a light crispness, both supporting rather than overwhelming the delicious filling of your choice. This truly is a great find! Among the best, maybe the tip top-best, we've had, comparable with great pierogis we've found in Allentown and in Chicago's Ukrainian Village neighborhood. Their borscht is a deep loving scarlet-purplely-red, a thin broth with savory onions and mild sprinkles of fresh dill. It's a tasty soup, fun to dip crisp flat bread while sipping it. We were thrilled at the delicate texture of the crepes, which we find to melt-in-your-mouth in a way that French-style crepe's around the city cannot match. The Nutella banana crepes were as sweet and rewarding as you could imagine. Here, we also asked for the thin crispy-edged ones with simple butter and powdered sugar topping that a kindly babusia makes for us at a little diner in Pittsburgh.
