4 stars. It's a hardware store. Not clean & flashy like the other big box chains, but feels more like a co-op. They had reasonable prices for the bird seed we needed. And they had reasonable prices for the cold drinks at the checkout. I appreciate that they were not over $2 like most places. And they had Firecracker Faygo - this is hard to find! We enjoyed looking at the baby chickens, ducks, and turkeys. They were sold out rabbits. Good prices on vegetable and fruit starts to plant in my garden. Wide variety, too. read more

I went in Rural King today as I do very, very often. I live .08 miles from the store on Allison and 62. Lawnmower battery was what I needed. when I approach the counter I was told they had the best price of anywhere on the battery $39.95 then the price came up wrong on my drink. I told the lady, a short broad black haired gal with glasses that the price needed to be corrected. She did something on her screen but it didn't translate the cc reader that had my card in it... I told it was incorrect, she quickly flipped her screen my direction and said yes it is, very rudely. it still showed the same incorrect price on the card screen I told her again she got nasty this time then reached over and reset the card screen. After 30-50 seconds it came back on line and showed no price at all. I told her that and she got more rude and said yes it does!...and that I needed to swipe my card. The lady next to her concurred but my screen was still blank... then she got even more rude and started telling the other people I was being rude. This was a lie' I walked away and went to Walmart and found the battery $10 cheaper. 10 years I have been going on this store... now I have to decide if I will ever go back in. read more

This is my first review for our local Rural King and long overdue. I wish I could write something more positive, but it is what it is. This is my second time calling to confirm something was available at the store and put on hold for about 20 minutes before arriving at the store, still on hold and phone on speaker. Everyone looking surprised and not realizing I'm still on hold and standing right in front of them. I call ahead because too often RK doesn't have what they claim they have. Been there fone that too many times. I have met many good people at RK and like shopping there when they have what I need, but I don't like wasting time there when they don't have what I need. There are MANY people working there so it is always a good time to call for availability. It takes 5-10 seconds to radio someone. I saw it done more than once or twice. I was told some training would be fone soon on phone etiquette. I'm sure I will test it soon. read more

I really like going to my local hardware store. The last time I went no associate was available to assist me in locating an item. And I was forced to make my purchase elsewhere even though they said they indeed had the item in stock. I enjoy getting to know my local stores and appreciate the associates that help me find what I need or find another associate if they don't know where it is. A large purchase was my 1st time at Rural in Dayton OH. The second visit I made was in Jeffersonville, IN AND made another large purchase: quality clothing for me and my grandchildren; shovels (3), other gardening items, screw driver set ( very good bargain.) gardening gloves and more. What a great variety. I had never been there and was so thrilled with the store in Dayton that I drove to the store in Jeffersonville and searched it out. The flowers/plants, trees, flower pots were quality and low prices. I'll return many times. I need a wheelbarrow! I'll go there before I go to Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

I wanted to leave a review about the wonderful customer service we received from Hayden and Chuck in the Stihl department. Both were so very helpful when purchasing a chainsaw. Hayden was able to confirm that the chainsaw we wanted was in stock and Chuck was so helpful when we picked it up and he went over everything about the chainsaw. Worst store ever! Nothing is marked and you have no idea what anything costs. It's all a mess. The workers are somewhat friendly.

I've driven past Rural Kin a couple of times, not knowing what type of store it was, or even interested in finding out. But...my neighbor suggested I come here to purchase a dusk to dawn light to mount on my garage. So here I am. Upon walking in my initial impression in a single word was - "dirty" - the look and the feel. I was quickly able to shake off that first impression when I spotted locally made Apple Butter and candy galore...and I'm talking about old school candy. Rural King reminds me of a super-sized hardware store. I didn't explore the store, so I went straight to what I needed and I'd stop for a moment only if something along the way and back caught my attention (i.e., candy, Faygo soda (pineapple flavor!), apple butter, etc). I needed assistance in selecting the outdoor light and a gentleman was already assisting someone. He acknowledged my presence. I waited. He was very helpful in educating me on the product so I could make an informed decision and he even explained the return policy if needed. The young man checking out my products was very helpful and talkative. So if nothing else I'd say the customer service I experienced was really great, from the floor to check out. I wouldn't mind visiting Rural King again to see what else they have to offer. Like I said it's not the cleanest place, but throw on a pair of jeans, old sneaks, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt and I'll be fine. read more

I actually like Rural King, but the store (Jeffersonville, IN) and surrounding is a mess. I could say that lately it looks like they are trying to be more organized and more cleanlier and I felt they are reimagining themselves. But than I get to the store for their potatoes on sale. Looked good in the ad and sale priced . When I get there they are marked down to 1.99 and they were discussing. Flies swarming all over them, wet bags, moldy potatoes, along with rotted ones. Ones knows how a rotted onion or potato smells. Truthfully gross. Even if you try to salvage some loss's why not have employees pick through them instead of the customer. Again another display of poor management. I assume Moe is directing this. I had to leave without buying anything. Am I too sensitive or over reacting. I don't think so; this is just a sign of not thinking of your customers. read more

If you need it, whatever it is, they probably have it. The lack of store personnel seems to be their biggest issue, as it's often hard to find anyone who isn't already 3 deep into helping someone else. Secondly, and also personnel related, is the lack of pricing tags on the merchandise. Often, if there was a price on the shelf, it was for a different item, or was wrong entirely. I found out 2 items I was buying were vastly different when scanned at the register, turning my $50+ dollar purchase into an $89 purchase. I still purchased the items, but it was a bit frustrating, as I wouldn't have picked those items up in the first place had I known the corrected prices. read more

I love the choices they have here and I bought my chickens here so they get a whole star for that because I love my chickens. As long as I have them, I will never starve... I am aggravated by the service almost every time I go there though. Whether it be in the individual departments or at the register. Folks this is THE place to go if you need anything for your farm (like live chickens or ducks) equipment or gardening. It's located on Highway 62 in Jeffersonville at the intersection of Allison and Holman Lane...you can't miss it. Pesticides, grass seed, shrubs and perennials or annuals when it comes to plants. Need a fence to hold your cattle in the field? They have it. What about a chicken coop, no problem! Dog food, just about every brand. Shovels and rakes and tents and pool floaters, it's there. I buy a a lot at Rural King. They are relatively priced and have excellent guest service. You can get a free bag of popcorn to munch on as you shop, many take advantage of this offer. I had to pass because I'm not used to eating popcorn with chickens and ducks being picked up and cuddled..they do offer hand sanitizer but I wasn't convinced everyone actually used it. It's a farm store people, so man up? And just so you know, I'm a freak about smells and Rural King smells like a farm store, so get over it. I highly recommend this place, regardless of the smells and poultry. I never leave without buying something! Go for it! read more

I lean towards going here for almost any item. They seem to carry everything. Great place and awesome employees.

Rural King has a variety of items. Some of there products are over priced and others I consider a good deal when they are running a sale or on clearance. They have special sales every week which is why they have such high traffic. The store itself is very large and they never have enough employees to service their customers special requests or questions. If you visit on a weekend, plan on standing in line to check out for at least 5 minutes or longer. When visiting the store, if you know what you need, plan on finding it on your own and checking out without needing assistance...you'll have a positive experience. However, if you fall outside the box and require assistance of any kind, than you WILL probably have a negative experience. Most likely you'll question how they even keep there doors open with the understaffed and under trained employees. The upside, the few employees they have are extremely friendly...and that's Rural King. read more

I went to rural king one day to buy a chick, I had plenty of chicks and I just wanted one of a specific breed. and when I got there, there was no boxes to get a chick.. so an employee helped me get a box.. which the manager just so happened to show up and asked the employee if that box was the right box, then asked what use to be in the box.. which was cleaners.. and then proceeded to tell her that she wasn't smart and should've known better.. then asked me how big of a box I needed.. and I said small enough for 1 chick.. I just need this breed for my flock and I have enough birds. the manager looked at me and asked " if I could read?" and I said yes.. and he said.. if so, then I would've seen that it said 6 chicks only.. I told him I didn't need 6 just the 1. and why wouldn't that be alright for just one. and he again said read the sign, or maybe get a better education since it seems you have trouble with it. I then called him a colorful word. and let him and all the customers who were watching this manager degrade an employee and insult a customer about rural kings chicks..and how they are really cared for here.. and their lack of knowledge and the fact that they mix up the chicks and genders and mislabel them. I have been going to this rural king for 2 years. buying chicks and feed.. and NEVER have I been insulted like that. and I rarely bought 6 at a time. they need a new management and better system to care for their animals.. and knowledge of the animal they are selling. read more

Wow what a fun place, they even have baby chicks for sale and rabbits. They have just about everything the backyard gardener or urban farmer could want including "real" farmers wants and needs. They have a huge outdoor section with plants and trees, etc. and free popcorn! The prices are terrific, plenty of parking, and I even found Green River soda - a blast from my past, it was so good. read more

I went to Rural King in Jeffersonville, IN on 12/2/16 and back on 12/3/16. I have been debating purchasing my first pistol. The staff guided me to the different models they liked, (NO these were not the most expensive) and the ammo I would need. The staff took time to figure out exactly which ones would be practical for me. When I left on 12/2 empty handed to think about the decision there was no pressure to buy. I actually purchased somewhere else on 12/3 and came back with the most helpful staff to figure out the best ammo to get. I was impressed with their willingness and knowledge to help. read more

What I like most about Rural King are the wide range of items they carry: guns, men's clothing, women's clothing, fishing gear, camping equipment, tools, garden supplies, hardware, plumbing supplies, automotive & truck needs, pet food, bedding, toys, etc., household goods, farm animal needs, candy, food, lawn equipment, plants, trees, and too many other items to mention. They also have different price points you can buy blue jeans for $10 or Levis & Carhartt for $30+. Rural King also has great sales I bought a Carhartt hooded jacket last year for $30, retail is $70. You can also buy nuts, bolts, washers by the pound, so you can buy one, two or a hundred at good pricing. I usually know what I want so I don't need much help, when I've asked for help in the hardware area the staff has been very helpful. Like a lot of stores they don't water and care for plants like they should. Most times they do not have enough checkout lines open. This I don't understand what is more important than taking my money quickly? They also have free sacks of popcorn, free coffee & great biweekly sales. I'll continue to go to Rural King get a free bag of popcorn and walk around. I must remember to save some of the popcorn for my Jack Russell, she loves it. read more
