I want to start off by saying this place has EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! Although I've been to McCall hundreds of times over the years, this was my first experience at Rupert's. I ordered the duck, and I have to say I've definitely had better duck, but the mushroom risotto was very good! My eating companion had the fillet, and it was DELICIOUS!!!! I was also excited to see that they make their own in-house simple syrups....the night we were there they had a basil, brown sugar and huckleberry....which made our cocktails unique AND SUPER YUMMY!!! I give this place a solid 4 eventhough I would not order the duck again. I would like to try some other things off the menu for sure.....I would eat here again! read more

This place fills up fast in season so make a reservation. Who thought you could get good Thai food in the hotel McCall but the chef does a Thai food special on Thursday nights and it was excellent. The rest of the menu is traditional fine dining, staff was a little over worked but pleasant and got it done. Very nice ambiance and location. Don't be in a rush here. read more

Summary: great food, terrible service and kitchen organization. If you are very patient and have no kids with you it might be worth a try. The story: Came to Rupert's this evening for the first time with a reservation on the porch. It was a lovely evening outside but we were seated next to the door closest to the inside (and the adjoining door) and told all other tables were reserved. Then two parties that were clearly not holding outside reservations were sat in areas I was told were reserved. After about 10 minutes, we asked door was opened and slammed at least every 20 seconds. I asked to please be reseated but was told the only option was inside. There was an open table outside but this 'reserved' 4 top sat open for the remainder of our meal. I asked if they could keep the doorway open, but this was not an option. Apparently the heat in the indoors would go up, but the door literally spent more time open then shut. Seating issues and the Chinese water torture of the door aside we move on. With two young kids with us, we ordered right after arriving after a 10 min delay of a server greeting us. After a full 45 minutes in we finally got our 2 appetizers. Many other diners who arrived 10-15 minutes after us got bread and appetizers and salads before us. When we asked about the delay, we got a sorry apology. We were told the kitchen was behind yet the table next to us which sat 10 min later than us received their entrees at the same time we got salads. WARNING: if you order Veal Meatballs which were yummy, they apparently delay your meal by 30 minutes. We finally got our entrees after about 1 hour and the buffalo ribeye and scallops were great. I can see several diners who started dinner before enjoy their evening walking around the lake. Bottom line: get kitchen timing in order, don't have servers throw them under the bus, and move this table by the door to a better location. I will not be back. As long time residents of McCall we were again reminded on Valentine's Day how special it is to have Rupert's Restaurant in McCall. Always great food and service. Thank you Rochelle, Sam, Gary and Chris. We had an amazing appetizer, Himalayan Mons, a deliciously spiced yak meat dumpling. My wife ordered the sea bass which was fresh and spot on. I had the Bacon wrapped tenderloin which was expertly prepared to medium rare. Chris recommended a bottle of 2006 Gray-Griffith Bordeaux Blend. Tightly knit, as you would expect at only 14 years age, this blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot starts off with an earthy, forest floor, cedar chest, smoke, tobacco and cedar wood nose. Full bodied, structured and showing a crisp, firm, yet, elegant and ripe Cabernet Sauvignon character, with the tannins and concentration to age, this demands 10-20 more years before the fun starts. So if you are in McCall and in the mood for Yak and a bottle of Gray-Griffith, visit Rupert's! read more

We stayed at the Hotel McCall on our recent weekend trip and decided to venture into Ruperts for dinner. After seeing all the good reviews we thought we were in for a great meal but the meal fell short for us. Both my husband and I were so confused over the hype after we wrapped up our dinner here. My husband ordered the Shrimp Scampi and did not enjoy it at all, he said it was very bland . I ordered the Salmon Special which I too thought was bland and no where close worth the $27 price tag. The sauce that came with the salmon quite honestly seemed as if it came out of a bottle, the kind of sweet and spicy sauce you get with egg rolls in a Chinese restaurant. Not at all the expectation you have for a James Beard award nominee. Unfortunately we won't be returning to Ruperts on our next visit to McCall. The food comes no where close to living up to the reviews or price points. Overrated. read more

We had takeout food here last night. In this time of COVID the order and pickup were easy and the food was even better. We had the yak ragu, pork with noodles and brussel sprouts and all were great. For whatever reason most restaurants find it hard to deliver takeout food that meets the normal in house standards. I've ordered the same food in house and as takeout and usually the takeout version is just unacceptable. These guys seem to have gotten it down. The food delivered was hot and very very good. Just finished dinner! I must say it was one of the most enjoyable & delicious dinners we have had in a very long time! Starting with the waitstaff, she was excellent! The manager greeted us upon arrival and was so nice! We had an early reservation but since we just booked yesterday we made sure to skip lunch. Cocktails were handcrafted and excellent. The wine list exceptional! Appetizers were brought out and delicious. Three out of the four of us had the seafood chowder and the fourth person was envious...I think it was the best chowder i have ever had! The wine we chose for dinner was from a small region in Italy that we were familiar with and delicious! Dinner was excellent and changes with the season, and dessert was the perfect finish to our meal! read more

Visited recently with 2 friends for Happy Hour on a Wednesday night and we had a great time. Food and service were excellent and staff were following safety protocols. We were told that a party of 2 could not be seated without a reservation in spite of many open tables. We returned to sit at the bar for drinks and were only allowed to order appetizers. The attitude of the staff was such that they didn't want our business. Another couple came in after us, were told the same thing, so they sat down to have drinks and appetizers. They were completely ignored by all of the staff and left. My assumption was that because it was 30 minutes until closing, they didn't want to be bothered. What a disappointment. read more

Sat in the Patio and enjoyed the marvelous view. The meal was outstanding and I felt SAFE. They are taking all the necessary steps to put their guests at ease. We did a date night here while in town for the weekend. I felt overdressed and out of context... was expecting more fine dining than casual. It was more loose than romantic. A quick scan of the room and it was large groups and a lot of plaid shirts throughout. Quality of food was solid but our expectations were higher with the chef's street cred as a James Beard nominee. We had wonton appetizers off the specials board and our entrees (duck breast and seared tuna) were well cooked. Staff very friendly and attentive. Didn't get a chance to enjoy the view as our reservation wasn't until 8 p.m. and while we did have a window seat, the view was pitch black. Wouldn't mind returning but will most likely explore the town's other options first. read more

Atmosphere, Amazing; Service, Outstanding; Food, to die for; Husband and I stayed at Hotel McCall and originally had reservations elsewhere and we had heard very good things about the restaurant right there in the hotel where we were staying, so we decided to cancel our reservations and give Rupert's a try. We were in town for our 10 years together Anniversary! They treated us like royalty! We got to sit in the back, quiet, almost as if we sat at the 'Chef's table', beautiful views, wonderful candle lite ambiance dinner. Best experience. If you plan on a trip to McCall, Rupert's is a must stop dining experience. The cakes are wonderful too. Local Bakery made! Spot on! Thank you for a fantastic experience! read more

Was very excited with reservations for my birthday for Thai night. Got a babysitter for this rare date night. On arrival we were told that they were out of Thai dishes. The regular menu was exceptionally boring and uninspired. Note our reservation was at 7:15, not a crazy late time. We were offered wontons, as a sub for Thai. A restaurant shouldn't offer/advertise Thai night if they don't actually serve Thai for the night. What a joke! Lived here 5 years without going here and would highly advise avoiding it! The table outside was closest to the lake with a beautiful view. The door from the restaurant to the patio shut loudly pretty frequently which detracted from the beautiful ambience. The server was pleasant and timely. My dinner of Thai shrimp soup, halibut and chess pie was good, but not exceptional. I'd eat there again. read more

Food was great. Among us we had halibut, mahi-mahi, the filet and flat iron steak. All were excellent. The beet salad was great and the Caesar salad as one of the best I have had. Service was a little slow but they were very busy. The only bad thing was the noise. It is almost deafening in there. My mom had to take her hearing aids out and you almost had to shout at the person across from you. Highly recommend it if you can stand a noisy restaurant. read more

I wanna start by saying this review has nothing to do with the service or way the food was cooked. Our server was amazing and the food was cooked to the best of the cooks ability (the steak was cooked perfectly temperature wise). First off when we sat down it smelled like old fish, so we stayed away from anything seafood. The drinks were great, we got a gin and whiskey sour with egg whites and they were well balanced and delicious. Next the romaine in the ceasar was so old it was yellow and bitter. The $45 ribeye was bargain ben at best. We literally spit pieces out because they were so chewy. This review is 100% a shout out to the owner/ upper management that just because your in a destination location does not mean you can skip on product quality. As a hotel restaurant you're food quality should be top. Location does not create quality. I'm sorry to the front of house staff that has to deal with the embarrassment of the low quality food. read more

I just found out Chris S. from Rupert's responded to my review 2 months ago. Sorry for my late response but, I really wanted to get this out to people. I left a bad review for not being welcomed 8 months ago. It took the restaurant to respond to my bad review 6 months later (which is 2 months ago). Wow! Everyone should read his response. Rules to customer services and problem resolutions are that you do not argue with customer; You do not tell them what you think-lose your ego first ('because you weren't there'); Empathize and apologies,,, etc. Customer is not always right! It is just that they think they are right even if it was their fault. However, in my case, I did not make things up, I do not lie or complain for gain. So, please be noted that you just advertised how terrible management you are and proven why I got ignored. It trickles down! I know what inside and outside(sky) looks like Chris. I did go in to you restaurant: Dividing wall wraps around from the entrance to the left, where the restaurant is at and Daily special menu. To the right is host station and behind against the wall are two high tables with two chairs each. Anyways, it is great to know that Rupert's don't want my money and I would be fine with that. Hope others read this review before supporting great attitude of Management. Oh, yes! I am sure that you can still trust your hostess over a HONEST customer for many more years. I can't even describe how horrible the service was at this establishment. We read many of the reviews, and against the wishes of my family, I forced this place on them because of those good reviews. We were seated and then sat for ten minutes before anyone spoke to us. Ordered drinks twice before going to the bar to serve ourselves. With a seven year old, that becomes an issue. So, family friendly? No. Friendly in general, absolutely not! I won't go on and on because I can't think of anything that was done correctly other than bringing us our check promptly. The food was average at best, like, Holiday Inn (no offense to HI) average. Chef, maybe in 2013 you won an award, but please listen to people who take the time to post- be a guest in your own establishment and then call Gordon Ramsey you need help. Sinking ship. I'm sad about this because we were looking so forward to trying your food. We are now looking forward to never returning. McCall is a beautiful town with kind and warm people and other much more amazing places to eat. Walk on by. This establishment has past its prime. read more

Located inside the legendary Hotel McCall, this casual fine dining restaurant has it all. Large windows overlooking the Payette Lake and mountains and a great menu. We were there on a Thursday evening when the special offering was a full prime rib dinner for $19.95, and an amazing linguine carbonara for around $15. All meals were very satisfying and reasonably priced. Service was very good. Be sure to try the moist muffin desert! Lived here 4 years and had never been to Rupert's before. I had however heard that 'Thai' night was very good. I made a reservation for my wife's birthday at 7.15pm. Not even a late time...So we got there and was offered the house menu. I queried about the Thai food, only to be told that there was soup left and everything else had gone, and that in the future if we wanted Thai we should get there earlier!! This is 7.30pm at night, come on seriously. And judging by other reviews on here this isn't a one off. Rupert's learn a lesson...Don't advertise Thai night if you only have food for half the night! read more

I follow Ruperts on Instagram. Their amazing pictures have made me want to eat here for a very long time. Everything finally worked out and we had early reservations on valentine's day. It was a special menu. We were promptly seated, given the menu...and then completely forgotten about. Wait staff walked by..no eye contact..people who arrived after us, were being served their first course. . Finally got the attention, explained we hadn't been greeted or served...Chris, our waiter, said he wasn't told to serve us???? What? So, appitizer comes. Fine. Quite a bit later salad and then entree. My husband had to ask for a soda refill. My medium well steak was raw. Sent it back. And then waited and waited...my husband has now finished dinner. Finally my dinner comes back. When we arrived one couple was seated and one arrived after us. The couple who arrived first were still waiting for their salads!! The couple who arrived last made comments about how they got served before us. Worst service ever!!! But overall the most disappointing thing was the food wasn't good. It was just so so. The steak was chewy. This was a special menu where the chef is supposed to put their best forward. I'm so bummed and disappointed. We ate at Salmon River Brewing and had a much better dinner and experience...for half the price!!! read more

Visiting from Phoenix and always make a point to dine here. The ambience is delightful-great views of the lake whether you eat inside or dine on the patio...The food---FANTASTIC! The special beet salad is a delicious starter full of flavor lightly dressed....The steaks, either the flank, sirloin, or roast are all prepared with delicious sauces....cooked to your order every time we have been there....the vegetable timbale is outstanding---so the wife says! Full bar with a great variety of wines reasonably priced. If you have room for dessert, we highly recommend the raspberry crumble with ice cream--YUM! See ya again next summer! read more

Even the kids menu is high quality. The food is so good that we only ventured away on the days it was closed. Tonight they have Thai specials and they are amazing. So, I make a reservation for three people and requested the table next to the window so we could enjoy a beautiful summer view of the gorgeous lake. I get to the restaurant 15 minutes ahead of our reservation and notice that the table I had requested is open. We are so excited. A lady comes in behind me and while the hostess was talking to me she shifted her attention to this lady that came in and ignored me. The lady cuts in front of me talks to the hostess and then proceeds into the dining room. I then get back to talking to the hostess and tell her who I am and then get informed that the table I requested is already reserved. After informing her I requested that table and was not told that it was already reserved, she tells me the owner asked for the table this evening so she gets whatever she wants and that was her that interrupted me and cut in front of me. HOW RUDE. Our meal was not that great and we still did not even get a window table. The three of us will not be back. read more
