We went to Rupert's tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday. We attempted to start with the Brie appetizer and they were sold out. We opted for the venison meatball appetizer instead. Wow, were we glad they were out of Brie! The venison meatballs were so good! I added a cup of Smoked Trout Chowder before my entree. Big chunks of trout, creamy without being heavy. So good. I decided on the Spring Risotto for my entree. Delicious! The peas were so fresh and bright. The balsamic honey glazed cauliflower that came it was out of this world. My husband had the Grilled Flat Iron Bistro Steak which was cooked to perfection. The steak came with gruyere-potato au gratin. Come on, order the dish for that side alone! The potatoes were phenomenal! The steak was tender and flavorful. You can't miss with this entree. There's a nice menu of hand-crafted cocktails and a decent bourbon menu which, (cover your ears Rupert's management) is under priced. We were fortunate to have Hannah as our server tonight. She was on top of everything and quick to answer any questions we had. It's a lovely space with lake views from a majority of the tables. In the summer, the outdoor patio can't be beat. I spent three nights at Hotel McCall during a winter visit to snowboard at Brundage. Rupert's was only open for ONE of those nights, unfortunately. First of all, our server (Hannah I believe) was amazing, attentive and friendly. We had a party of 7 and half the people liked (not loved) their meal. The people that liked theirs had ordered the Cesar salad, Ramen bowl and elk meatloaf. The people that hated theirs ordered the steak and the fish. Unfortunately the two steaks were EXTREMELY undercooked as was the fish, the polenta was presented in weird fried cakes and a steak drenched in a gravy-like sauce which completely hid the cut and quality of the steak. I'd give it another try but be specific about sauces and temperature of steak. read more

My DW and I stopped in for dinner this evening about 5pm. We had a reservation and it still took about 10 minutes to get seated. There was only one group of 4 ahead of us. I had the king salmon with a corn ragout & potatoes. Flavor was fine but the fish portion was smaller than I expected (I'm guessing about 4-5 oz.) My wife, who is a light eater, opted for the Shrimp Scampi and the bread basket. The small loaf of bread was delicious and the shrimp were flavorful. Cons: -very noisy place, mostly from the loud crowd in the bar area -portions could have been a tab bit larger Pros: -friendly waitstaff and host -nice views of the lake -food was flavorful read more

Had another fantastic experience at Ruperts last night! The service was spot on and the food, delicious. We started with the polenta and chanterelle mushroom appetizer which had so much flavor! One of the best polentas I've had. I had the filet for my main course and it was cooked medium rare to perfection. My boyfriend had the pork chop and it was so tender and flavorful. Very cool restaurant hidden inside the hotel . We strolled in late after a long bike ride and the service was very accommodating and friendly . We really enjoyed sitting in the garden area outside watching the sunset . We really enjoyed our food , I had the scallop risotto, really creamy and made perfect . The Venice meatballs I didn't care for . The cocktails were really good and the draft beer. I also like the old antique benches inside, they looked really old . Thanks for a great meal ! read more

We had our 22nd Wedding Anniversary dinner here. The service, and food was fabulous. We shared a complimentary dessert Butterscotch Pot O'Cream. I had the herbed chicken and my husband had the chickpea curry. Both were delicious. I would have given them a fifth star if they had more vegetarian offerings. We went on a Thursday evening and it was Thai night. We thought that they would have at least one special without meat. There was not, and there was no substitution for meat. So, my husband had one entree to pick from. It was delicious, but it would have been nice to have more than one choice. The view was wonderful, the service was fabulous, and our food was great too. Have had dinner here twice and gone to the bar a couple of times and everything about this place is awesome. One of our favorite spots. Dinner never disappoints and the desserts are divine. Can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee of $20. The bar atmosphere is upbeat and the bartenders are all great and make the best cocktail's. Stopped in for some drinks to enjoy the live music on a Sunday evening, was told by a waitress that they had at least another 30 minutes left of playing. Stopped at the bar to buy drinks from a unfriendly bartender, not sure if she even said a word to us, but did make some good drinks. We had a huckleberry breeze and a bramble. Had dinner last night. The service was exceptional. Cocktails were excellent especially the Huckleberry one. Wine list was appropriate for the three different dinners. Two of us had the Elk Meatloaf, which I had never tripe before. While I wish there were a few more asparagus, the meatloaf meal was beyond my expectations. My wife tried the pork shank and asked for the mole on the side. While she very seldom eats very much, she ate until she couldn't eat any more and took the rest home. Taking something home or here and she really enjoyed it. The last member of the party ordered the special steak dinner and the steak was huge, cooked exactly as requested and not a crumb was left on his plate. We are locals and this is one of our restaurants of choice for meeting friends and if course date night. read more

Rupert's is our favorite restaurant in town. We can always find a selection of delicious entrees to choose from. The tenderloin steak is perfectly cooked and so flavorful, and you won't want to miss the shrimp scampi appetizer... good to the last drop. The drink menu is also great. However, Rupert's has one big issue that's inexcusable in a nice restaurant. We first encountered it last October. At that visit, we ordered a bottle of wine and were given dirty goblets. Our server was apologetic when we showed her and immediately replaced them... with 2 more dirty goblets. The outside of the glasses were covered in a gritty residue, as if the dishwasher had not washed and rinsed properly, drying food particles on their surface. The restaurant was very busy that night so my husband took the second set back to the bar himself. The bartender argued about the goblets' condition, but eventually admitted they were gritty. Fast forward to last night. We again ordered a bottle of wine, and the goblets had the same residue on them. Nothing had changed. Our server seemed surprised and brought us clean ones, but the point remains. Please get a new dishwasher. Everything else in Rupert's, from the service, the view, and the food is superb. read more

Staying at Hotel McCall so had to make a reservation at Ruperts. Glad we did. Loved how they are staggering the tables during covid times. The service and pacing was excellent. We loved trying the yak appetizer, from the local yak farm. It was Thursday, so we had the Thai specials, and so glad we did. The flavorings were wonderful. Went here last night for a birthday dinner celebration. Besides waiting 10 minutes before our waitress came to our table, the experience was excellent. Right on the river, super yummy food and not too expensive. We had some great Malbec wine, I had the steak and my wife had the duck. I've been to Rupert's a few times and usually they hit a homerun but last night was anything but satisfying. I ordered a seafood coconut curry, which sounded delicious, but was disappointing. Although it had sufficient scallops and shrimp, the portion of rice was toddler-sized - I would estimate 1/4 cup of rice. It really didn't constitute an entree-sized dish - more like a soup course. I'm not a big eater and rarely do I finish a meal, but after I finished this dished I was still very hungry. For $22.50 I basically got a bowl of soup. And so, I ordered a dessert - allegedly fresh-fruit crumble. Do not order this dessert if you want a crumble. This dessert was a dense, dry, flavorless chunk of cake (??) with a layer of peaches that was 1mm thick (not sure if it was peaches, but that's what I was told). There was a tablespoon (at most) of a blueberry sauce (again, not sure because it didn't have much flavor). This dessert was by no stretch of the imagination a crumble. I would never order this dessert again. It reminded me of something that I could buy at the grocery store on the day-old rack. The service was excellent. read more

It takes a lot to earn FIVE stars from me but my experience at Rupert's Restaurant was exceptional. We made a reservation for 7pm on Saturday during Winter Carnival. We arrived on time and were immediately shown to our table. As soon as we sat down we were notified that the fireworks were starting and they had opened up their patio/deck for anyone who wanted to step outside. Thankfully our table was right next to the window and we got to enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of our table with a glass of wine. Speaking of wine, they have a wonderful wine list offering local wines as well as some of our favorites from the Pacific Northwest. Our server was very sweet and patient as none of us had ever dined here before. She explained the specials and whatever dishes we asked about and offered to bring us a sample of the nightly soup offering. I will say that their food is an experience in itself... everything is flavorful and unique. We started by sharing some Parmesan Fries around the table while we waited for our meals and even the fry sauce has unique flavors that I have never tasted before. We shared around the table so that everyone could experience the unique flavors of each dish. I ordered the Grilled Beef Tenderloin Filet with a salad with ranch. All of their dressing are homemade and delicious! I've never had such a creamy ranch and I really wanted to ask for their secret but refrained. The mashed potatoes were perfectly whipped and paired well with the peppercorn sauce. My husband wasn't feeling well so he ordered the "Bacon-Ranch" Shrimp Scampi as a meal and we ended up sharing it around the table. The shrimp were nice in size and cooked perfectly. Another person at our table ordered the Miso King Salmon with wasabi mashed potatoes. He absolutely loved the dish and cleaned his plate. For me the wasabi mashed potatoes are an acquired taste that I haven't acquired but the salmon was the best I've had in quite some time. We closed out the meal with a cheesecake dessert and our server brought out a scoop of raspberry sorbet that was to die for when paired with a bite of cheesecake. We were pleasantly surprised at the ambience, service and amazing flavors of each dish. Rupert's will be a regular stop for us when visiting McCall. It far exceeded our expectations! read more

Stopped by again last night. This McCall restaurant never disappoints. People who know you and care about you, a menu that adjusts a bit with the seasons, and always a couple of specials that live up to the idea of being special. This restaurant has also continued to put the safety of its staff and patrons at a premium, which is really appreciated. The management is extremely knowledgeable about their wine list and can happily help with a pairing if needed. The views, of course, are very nice during any season. During this season we could see the groves of Tamarack across the lake in bright yellow fall colors. That scenery paired really nicely with my bacon wrapped and sausage stuffed chicken breast served with homemade pumpkin ravioli in a brown butter, sage, hazelnut sauce. Oh my! read more

Stopped by to eat dinner on a Friday night and Rupert's had a private party so the restaurant was closed to regular customers on a holiday weekend. Decided to stop by on Saturday and they would not serve us dinner in the bar...which they normally do. Costumer service was not good at all!! read more

Flew in from Maui, HI for Winter Carnival 2018 and had friends bring us in for dinner, and it was awesome! The atmosphere was great & relaxing. It was beautiful watching the snow fall from our table! We started with the baked Bre appetizer & shrimp scampi & both were great! They offered a special entree, an Elk filet & Elk sausage which was a hit. The tenderloin filet was also great! Everything was cooked perfect. Ended with a butterscotch pot de crème. It was our first time having this type of dessert & every single bite was amazing!!! Visited Rupert's for the Wife's B day when staying at the Hotel McCall. Had reservations and got seated immediately without delay and ice waters we're waiting for us. Ordered two margaritas that were excellent. Perfectly mixed with fresh flavors and quality spirits, and yes, there's a huge difference. Nice classy vibe with a spectacular location with snow and crisp weather. We ordered the salmon and the flat iron steak. Both were excellent and well prepared and presented. The fish was not as fresh as it could have been, but it's the dead of winter in Idaho so I understand the challenges. The steak was tender, juicy and cooked at a perfect medium. They even brought a piece of deluxe chocolate cake to the wife for her birthday that had a firework shooting sparks for about 20 seconds. It was amazing and a great way to celebrate the evening. We were treated well by all the wait staff and hosts. Can't say enough about the fine dining experience we had at Rupert's and how the made her birthday special. Nice atmosphere, but we were seriously underwhelmed by the service and food. We went to Rupert's for Thai night and unfortunately they had run out of the specials by the time we got there. Standard menu is very basic- salmon, chicken, beef- and all tasted pretty basic too- steak was a funny little rectangular shape, vegetable side was 4 pieces of red pepper and some broccoli- both overcooked. At $30 a plate I don't think we'll be going back. read more

We had an amazing meal by Rupert's tonight. We are staying at the hotel and they brought it up to our room. All three entrees were amazing. Actually everything was so flavorful I was blown away. My steak was perfectly cooked. The dessert (key lime pie) was light, which was very nice after a big meal. The sauces on all three entrees (salmon, elk meatloaf) were so delicious. We also got the special Thai Spring Rolls which were also very good. I can't wait for tomorrow night. I already know I'm getting the salmon. read more

OMG! I'm not normally a fan of fancy restaurants, but this one is a winner! Their beet salad is the best one I've ever eaten - and I eat Beet Salad everywhere I go that offers it. My friends' Flat Iron Steak was excellent. But the Ginger Mojito, Huckletini, Lemon Huckleberry crumble, and chocolate bomb were all to DIE for! If you are visiting the McCall Idaho area, or if you are blessed enough to live there - be sure to make a reservation for Rupert's! Well worth the drive! OH! Wow how disappointing. Came in and stood at the front desk for an eternity watching a waitress walk back and forth and not acknowledge us. The place was literally empty. I asked the waitress where we should wait to get a table, she asked "do you have a reservation?", I said no. She said we had to have a reservation to eat there...and the place was literally empty. So you have been warned, you can't eat there, even when the place is empty, unless you have a reservation. We walked across the street to Steamer's, which was in fact actually busy, and were seated right away. Won't be back, no wonder they were dead on a Saturday night and every other place in town was packed. Imagine that... Your service staff sucks, and is incredibly rude. read more

This was a great place to have dinner when staying at the hotel. They were able to accommodate us without reservations and with a toddler. The view was great and the service was good. We enjoyed the shrimp scampi and yak momos. I enjoyed a big beet salad and my husband enjoyed a steak. He said it wasn't the best steak he ever had but he did enjoy the appetizers. We got some desserts to go and enjoyed them in our room. We'd come back especially if we stay in the hotel. read more

We had tried to dine there in the summer but the Place was too busy. Went last night in the middle of November when McCall transitions from summer to winter crowds, 5 tables were occupied in an otherwise empty but charming dining room. Service was excellent from beginning to end with several inquiries about our experience. Meatballs, Parmesan fries, halibut and duck breast so tender it could have been from the South of France. Malbec, from Cahors, France, at $28 a bottle was as good as reasonably priced. Desserts consisted of cheese cake ramequin and pot-de-crème. All they need now is snow so we can return and taste the rest of the varied food choices. read more
