New to town and wanted sushi so we came here. We had a reservation and were seated immediately and waited on promptly. Our server Ella was excellent and attentive - quickly taking our drink/app order and then following up with our dinner order. She provided great service without hovering. The food was very good and plentiful. Happy hour rolls were decent size but not huge. Calamari salad was very flavorful and the shrimp spring rolls were good (we actually prefer crispy egg rolls but this isn't Chinese cuisine:) ). We had a variety of sushi rolls that were all very good and one special order that was done correctly. Peanut butter stout from the Belching Beaver Brewery was interesting - I would order it again. Overall a very good experience and wonderful evening. I read a lot of reviews and wanted to check it out for myself. Contrary to some of the reviews the service was excellent and the food was good. I would say the pricing was a bit high but kinda normal for McCall. We are locals from Donnelly and the price will limit our frequency coming here but everything else was excellent !! read more

Was just at the sushi place for the first time in years. This place really went downhill! The food is not that bad. Service is awful. Our waiter seemed intoxicated. Very sad but I was trying to be sympathetic but he was spilling things and slurred speech. Not cool dude!! Sushi is just ok but not authentic for such a high price so a lot of people are expecting more high-quality but this is a mountain town and you get what you get. Location is great. I don't understand some of these reviews. We come here for an extended Christmas every year and every year the food we get is Amazing! We get the bowls and the sushi and it is so full of flavor and fresh. We are going for a second time tonight to bring it home. It's a favorite spot for us. This place use to be a top notch spot but in the last 3-5 years it's gone downhill. The rolls are odd but delicious. The restaurant is typically always loud on the weekend. Service is usually mediocre at best. The final straw for me was when I got a mandatory charge of 18% tip on my take out order. Then when I went to sign it, it gave me the option to tip more! I wonder how many people actually miss this on takeout orders and tip more when they actually sign their slip! That's just insanely shady! The menu clearly states it only applies to people with parties of 6 or more. When I buy 120$ in sushi for take out, I'll tip you, but 18% is unreasonable for only bagging the food. That money better have gone to the cooks. Also don't look or act stoned in person or even on the phone. It's a trashy and bad look for your business. The service was mediocre, our server kind of had an attitude, maybe she was having a bad day. I was very disappointed when our food came, there was 2 of us, we each ordered our own items but they brought all our sushi rolls on one plate. Not only am I vegetarian and ordered all vegetarian options while the person I was with ordered items with fish/meat so the cross contamination was no ok with me. In addition, how awkward to have to share a plate with the person I was with when we ordered our own entrees. Quite a bit of a miss here. The food was ok at best and our bill was upwards of $120 , not worth the price at all. Vegetarian sushi rolls should not be $15 +. We came to McCall for a short stay, and decided on Sushi Bar for dinner on our "night out." 2 stars: The atmosphere and ambience was very cool, the staff was very nice and accommodating to us without a reservation, and they didn't mind our 3 kids playing at the table during the 40 minute wait for food. (There was a big party ordering ahead of us, so we understood about the wait.) BUT, the food had small portions and was not very good. I'm not a huge sushi fan, but the rest of my family loves it. There is no dairy in the happy hour menu. I also love that they have different meals for people who don't love sushi. For example, they are not very strict about the kids menu. I got the Jr. Bowl with salmon; it was exemplary about the taste. The only quarrel that I had with it was that the bottom was covered in grease and it was good, but it was a waste of butter. The service was amazing. Our server's name was Daniella. On top of all this the ambiance was astounding. There are paper lanterns, so this helped with the ambiance. The music the employees play was not traditional Japanese music and I really appreciate that. They also have wooden not bamboo chopsticks so that makes it a little easier on the new users. I have been coming to this sushi bar for YEARS and tonight was by far the worst service I have ever received. We sat at the bar and were handed menus immediately. At this point there was nobody at bar but the restaurant was steady. Our waiter (who goes by Train) was not only horrible at tending to our party of 2 but the most ignorant and rude waiter I have ever had. He completely botched our order from the start, missed multiple order requests we had, and was also pouring beer straight out of the tap and helping himself to it. We had to ask for the check immediately to make sure he didn't screw up our tab. All of this and somehow he is the MANAGER. Nuts. Great food, horrible service. Shoutout to the two hostesses. It's best to make reservations especially on weekends. We came here on the recommendation of locals. But coming from California we may be a bit more spoiled with sushi options. The menu has sushi, pho, bowls... A bit unusual for typical sushi places. It's more like a fusion place. The service was great. We were able to get our own private room for our party. The sushi was just ok. We got the beef and salmon bowls with the black rice. Not sure if they douse the same sauce on all the other choices for base (I believe you can pick noodle or white rice), but it was way too much and too sweet and really stole away from the naturally beautiful flavors of the salmon and the black rice. read more

First time at this sushi restaurant, visiting from California. Stepped in and noticed that no one working there is Japanese. Thought tbat was strange to only see caucasions running a sushi restaurant. But ok whatever. We got 4 different rolls from the happy hour menu for $8 each. They were the tiniest rolls EVER. They tasted just okay. The specialty rolls were around $18 each. We were debating if we should get get a specialty roll but we both went with a noodle bowl, mine with prawns and my husband with eel (but it was really catfish -- they need to call it for what it really is otherwise its deceptive). The prawns in my bowl were so skinny. Im used to big prawns at every japanese restaurant ive been to. Ok whatever. I couldnt wait to dig into the noodles. Wrong. The noodles were plain with nothing but some kind of mayonnaise on it. Seriously? No umami, soy sauce, miso, fish sauce or rice wine vinegar flavor that you would normally expect in a noodle bowl at a Japanese restaurant. Mayonaise! Yes you heard me. Mayonaise!! My husband tried his and yep. He said his was the same thing. Mayonaise! It was so disgusting we both couldnt eat it. We both just ate the few toppings (which wasnt much) and left the mayonaise noodles behind. What a waste of $18-$19 bucks for each bowl. No question this was the worst "Japanese" restaurant I have ever eaten at. Definitely not authentic. Whatever you do, DO NOT GET THE NOODLE BOWLS. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the sushi was average (not great or outstanding) and our waitress was nice and attentive. I am not a huge sushi fan, but I love the Kobe beef bowl! I make sure to get it every time I am in town. The sauces they put in the bowl are delicious, and I love that it has avocado too. It is a pretty big serving, so I usually have leftovers to enjoy later. (yay!) I would give a 5 star review, but I was very disappointed that my reservation somehow "got lost". I made the reservation online for a patio table, but upon arrival I was told that it wasn't showing up and that their online reservation system doesn't always work properly. They were able to squeeze our party of 2 in at the bar, but I wish I had known that the online reservation system wasn't reliable because I would have called to confirm it. You literally can't see over all of it and we were 6 people. We were advised we could just put it in a window sill. The dishes piled up in the window as did our empty bottles. The music is so loud you can barely speak to the person next to you. Tempura in a roll was clearly cooked earlier that day and was soggy. We went to the Sushi Bar in McCall tonight and it was Amazing. Our server Pamela went beyond the call of duty and made my sister's 60th birthday so much fun. She had a Fantastic personality and full of energy. I wish all servers could be this personable. I had the King salmon rice bowl and my husband had the Kobe beef bowl.
