The location is cool. Water front. The outdoor area was closed today because it was slightly chilly (9/23). Waitress was kind and quick. I feel bad leaving a lower star review but there are a few things that made me not want to return. Walking into the place, the walls and floors were very dirty. Our table was not clean, and the chairs were sticky. They served me coffee in a cup with chips all around the drinking area, very sharp. The plate they served me also had large chunk chips out of it. My husbands chicken fried steak was incredibly salty and you could taste the flour texture pretty severely in the gravy. The breakfast potato's were ok. My Benedict was undercooked. The eggs were slimy and my ham had a lot of large fat pieces. The hollendaise sauce had chunks of powder (maybe flour?) in it.. not sure what it was. Overall, I feel disappointed. I had a couple locals recommend this place and sadly I would not come back. For $70, I left feeling very sad. There was a mention on the menu that if you share a plate, they will charge you $3. That also really bugged me. If you don't have extra work, why would you charge me more to share? Bummer. read more

First off, the patio area of the Den has to be the best place to have a casual lunch with a spectacular view. The wait staff was friendly and attentive with drinks, service and answer our menu questions. For lunch, I had the chili burger and man was it good. The chili was robust and had an abundance of meat and heat. I cannot describe the exact flavor but the chili was some of the best I have ever had at a restaurant. My wife had a club sandwich which had "too much" meat according to my wife. It was stacked high and delicious. My friends and I went to the Den for a late brunch. They had room but a backup in the kitchen. We had to wait about 30 minutes for the food but it was well worth it! My omelette was HUGE. Even with the hunger I had leftovers to take home. I wish the bell peppers and onions were in smaller chunks but super yummy still. The best part was the biscuit and jam. My brunch at this place was not impressive. I ordered the Belgian waffles with the fruit compote, and I was extremely disappointed. The apple compote tasted like apple pie filling from a can, and the waffles tasted like the premade ones you can buy at Costco...the ones that have the sugar chunks in them...not impressed at all. I will say, however, that this location is cute! I liked that it was downstairs and had good eye-level views of the lake; the interior felt comfy and homey. Service was great! We left a pair of RayBans at our table, went back when we realized it, and the waitress was honest and handed them to us, so kudos for good employees! The den... where do I start. So my mom and I chose this place because we wanted to have a sit down breakfast. Well sometimes it may actually be better to go get a sausage and cheddar breakfast sandwich from Starbucks. We enter and there is (what another yelp review referred to as) a plethora of conservative paraphernalia. As well as a sign at the front that says "we have the right to refuse service" which is a kind way of saying they can kick out anyone who may disagree with their beliefs. I let this slide as I'm here for the food and my mom wanted a sit down place. Well, we get seated outside, where we sit on what is pretty much a slab of wood, and for some reason another slab underneath near our feet. There was a random empty paint bucket near my mom's feet too. We were also sitting in dirty lawn chairs, and I had to switch mine out because there was bird poop on it. Regardless, the menu selection looked enticing so I decided to order the salmon Benedict (one of my favorite foods). Well, the Benedict came and not only was my egg over done, but the sauce was splitting and there was only a giant pile of salmon on top of a stale croissant with nothing else (capers? Red onion? Garnish?). My mom's eggs were cooked nicely so I got to steal one of hers, but neither of us ate much. I will say that the food came out quickly, which I would hope for based on the quality, and there was a lot of it. If you're visiting mccall and looking for a highly conservative place with incredibly mediocre (at best) food, this is the place for you. Lastly, I want to add I am generally not a hater of any restaurant or food. I'm a frequenter of a Panda Express that usually makes you wait 15 minutes for your food. My family and I went here for mothers day, and it was wonderful. The restaurant was clean and almost like Christmas. The lake view was astonishing. The service was on top of all the duties, even though they were understaffed. The food was plentiful and cooked to perfection. Apparently, The Den Offers Two Experiences: Five Stars or One After eating lunch at The Den, I read the reviews and noticed an unusual pattern: people seem to have either a five-star experience or a one-star experience. Now I understand why. Unfortunately, we drew the one-star card. We were seated in a back corner with plenty of flies to keep us company. After asking for a couple more minutes with the menu, we waited about 10 minutes for our server to return. We ordered an appetizer and four meals--and then apparently entered a different time zone. Thirty minutes passed without seeing our server. When she finally returned, she explained that the kitchen was busy and our food would be out soon...a common theme in most of the 1-star reviews. Five minutes later, two meals arrived. Another five minutes later, the other two arrived. And then, in a bold reimagining of how appetizers work, our appetizer made its grand entrance after the entrées. Meanwhile, several groups who arrived after us were served, ate, paid, and left while we were still participating in The Den's lunchtime endurance challenge. After furniture shopping, our sales rep suggested The Den for breakfast. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and coffee. It's the best one I've had in a long time. The chorizo has a bit of a kick and added so much to the flavor. The coffee was super good too. We sat outside with a great view of the harbor. Love the location, breakfast is awesome!! However, I caution you, the Cobb salad is gross, welted lettuce, bagged cheese, brown avocado, and sprinkle of tomato. Didn't touch it, and no acknowledgement from staff that there is clearly a problem. Salads are not worth the $$. Listening to another customer complain that he got charged a $1 for spices. They took a while getting us seated, our seats when we finally got them were surrounded by flies, our waitress was so busy talking to another party that she hardly attended to us, and the food was just decent when they finally did get it out to us...an hour after we ordered. Even though it was one of the owners daughter's birthday, they still had a full house, they were very transparent about closing early that day. This place seems to have two Yelp entries, so pasting this review here as well... My wife and I had read the reviews about this restaurant, and we were excited to give it a try for breakfast. We made a reservation and noted we had a dog (so we asked for patio seating). From the moment we walked in, it was possibly the worst dining experience we've had (and we've had some bad ones. First, the hostess was extremely rude to me when I approached her and asked about my reservation. After telling me to step aside while they waited in a large party, she marched us out to the patio and gave us a table in a corner since we had a dog. BTW, we weren't the only ones with a dog. The table had water spilled all over it and no one bothered to wipe it off. She gave us one menu (and a kids menu) and left. We then sat there for close to 15 minutes before the waiter came. We asked for water and coffee, and after 10 more minutes our food showed up, but still no water or coffee. Finally, water came out from a different person and no coffee. I asked to see the waiter and after several more minutes (about 25-30 at this point) the waiter arrived with coffee. I had French toast which was very hard (I.e. cooked too long). But my bacon was very undercooked. My wife had an egg sandwich which she said was good, but the dish of fruit they brought out was actually translucent (very old and soggy). We sent it back, and the girl came back with it and said "all the fruit in the bowl is like this". She did offer to bring my wife some strawberries, and they weren't bad. I told the girl that this wasn't a very good breakfast so she sent her manager out who also happened to be the owner. When we mentioned the quality of the food, she said "we are slammed" and then she told us to "finish up eating and skeedaddle ". I overheard her tell the waiter to void our ticket and we were not welcome there again. They were sorely understaffed for Memorial Day weekend, rude, and I wouldn't say very welcoming. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal and a welcoming environment. Went on a "girls" trip to McCall and I recalled this restaurant from a couple of years ago when we went; however, when I walked in, I could immediately see that it has changed owners and what was a very cute place with awesome specialty coffees that were made picture perfect, this time had a very chaotic feel, and yes I know they were busy, but the entire decor and "feel" had changed. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about and the service was lacking. For the price, I would not recommend this place. read more

But I'm writing this review mostly for the food.....it was soooooo yummers!!! The breakfast burrito was huge and delish and came with your choice of side. We came to "The Den" in McCall during our April 2025 trip to Idaho. It was a chilly yet sunny day and the view of the lake was still frozen over but really pretty. I bet it's even better during the summer. Food, Service, and Ambiance were great. Owners are really cool and it was nice chatting with them while we were there. They have a unique mimosa flight with lots of different flavors. The bbq brisket was delicious. They smoke all their meat daily at the restaurant. Happened upon The Den on Father's day with my family and family visiting. Seated out on the patio with a great view of the lake and pleased that the restaurant wasn't busy at all, maybe 8 tables filled. Started out ok with drinks within 15 min and food order taken. After 45 min and noticing at least three tables seated after us (one with 6 people) were getting their food, we had to locate our waitress and ask about our order. She checked and said it would be another 5 min. After an additional 15 min I got up to ask for a manager. A guy (not a gentleman!) came out and started with "what's the problem?", I explained our time waiting and other folks receiving food with the restaurant not busy. He immediately became defensive stating an hour wasn't that long and asked me what should he do about it. His tone was demeaning and rude, he literally asked if we wanted our food or not, I was in shock by his attitude. I said we needed to eat but I felt so intimidated by this guy (which I've since figured out is the owner) and he kept at me asking how much of a discount I wanted?! The food came out, it was fair, none of us enjoyed it, discouted food but not the $20 for 4 iced teas, $38 in other drinks and they tried to add a large party tip. Will never return and will tell all of my Treasure Valley friends to not give them business when visiting the area. read more

The patio does have a wonderful view, however it took almost an hour to get our food on Fathers Day and is was not slammed. Mostly sandwiches, burger and salads. When my wife spoke with the manager, he was not professional or courteous with her and honestly rude. He did give us a discount, but he was being rude to her. Also they did let us know that they charge for refills on the ice tea at $5 each. read more

We also had hash browns and some had potatoes. The hash browns are pretty typical at any breakfast joint, stringy and not super crispy. The home style potatoes were a little bit more unique and good. Not your typical home style potatoes, more like a mashed up and fried type of potatoes. We brought our kids and grandkids to McCall for the weekend and planned to eat at a local Mexican restaurant, but with an hour wait, we decided to try The Den instead--and we're glad we did! Our party of 10 was seated quickly by the friendly owner, and drinks arrived fast. While waiting, the grandkids stayed entertained with tic-tac-toe. The food came out in pairs, and everything looked and tasted fantastic. I loved my warm ham and cheese hoagie with fries, and my husband said his BLT was one of the best he's ever had.
