First off, the patio area of the Den has to be the best place to have a casual lunch with a spectacular view. The wait staff was friendly and attentive with drinks, service and answer our menu questions. For lunch, I had the chili burger and man was it good. The chili was robust and had an abundance of meat and heat. I cannot describe the exact flavor but the chili was some of the best I have ever had at a restaurant. My wife had a club sandwich which had "too much" meat according to my wife. It was stacked high and delicious. If you are ever in McCall, you need to stop by The Den for great food, great views and great people. read more

My brunch at this place was not impressive. I ordered the Belgian waffles with the fruit compote, and I was extremely disappointed. The apple compote tasted like apple pie filling from a can, and the waffles tasted like the premade ones you can buy at Costco...the ones that have the sugar chunks in them...not impressed at all. I will say, however, that this location is cute! I liked that it was downstairs and had good eye-level views of the lake; the interior felt comfy and homey. Service was great! We love this location and the people are very nice from door to door. This was the second time, however, that we were served uncooked and arguably cold potatoes. Just a little more time on the grill would be great. My friend specifically asked for crispy hash browns and they were! The portions are generous! We will probably split breakfast next time. My family and I went here for mothers day, and it was wonderful. The restaurant was clean and almost like Christmas. The lake view was astonishing. The service was on top of all the duties, even though they were understaffed. The food was plentiful and cooked to perfection. I had the McCall omelet - which I could only eat half of, so it was leftovers. My son was raving about the Philly cheese sandwich and dirty tots. My daughter had a fried egg, with fruit and toast. Love the location, breakfast is awesome!! However, I caution you, the Cobb salad is gross, welted lettuce, bagged cheese, brown avocado, and sprinkle of tomato. Didn't touch it, and no acknowledgement from staff that there is clearly a problem. Salads are not worth the $$. Listening to another customer complain that he got charged a $1 for spices. Food was alright, it's not the greatest but will get you full. If yall are busy say something don't just seat us and expect us to know. Be better at serving when you guys are busy. If your cook can't handle big tables don't do it then. Our sever that served us on Sunday noon was amazing, she's is the loveliest lady however the service did not do her any justice. It did not do the restaurant any justice. Food came out an hour late and I understand that there are many big tables and yall close start closing around 2.30 but it doesn't give yall the rights to complete abandoned service to guests for cleaning up and eating yalls food after work. I have worked at many restaurants experiencing such terrible service has absolutely destroyed my love for small town great food. The busser absolutely is horrible at his job, I saw this man took minutes to clean up a table. From the server taking our food to the food arriving an hour later he has not clean that very table fully. I don't know how yall operate at such a prestigious location filled with wealthy people and having such low service standard. This place seems to have two Yelp entries, so pasting this review here as well... My wife and I had read the reviews about this restaurant, and we were excited to give it a try for breakfast. We made a reservation and noted we had a dog (so we asked for patio seating). From the moment we walked in, it was possibly the worst dining experience we've had (and we've had some bad ones. First, the hostess was extremely rude to me when I approached her and asked about my reservation. After telling me to step aside while they waited in a large party, she marched us out to the patio and gave us a table in a corner since we had a dog. BTW, we weren't the only ones with a dog. The table had water spilled all over it and no one bothered to wipe it off. She gave us one menu (and a kids menu) and left. We then sat there for close to 15 minutes before the waiter came. We asked for water and coffee, and after 10 more minutes our food showed up, but still no water or coffee. Finally, water came out from a different person and no coffee. I asked to see the waiter and after several more minutes (about 25-30 at this point) the waiter arrived with coffee. I had French toast which was very hard (I.e. cooked too long). But my bacon was very undercooked. My wife had an egg sandwich which she said was good, but the dish of fruit they brought out was actually translucent (very old and soggy). We sent it back, and the girl came back with it and said "all the fruit in the bowl is like this". She did offer to bring my wife some strawberries, and they weren't bad. I told the girl that this wasn't a very good breakfast so she sent her manager out who also happened to be the owner. When we mentioned the quality of the food, she said "we are slammed" and then she told us to "finish up eating and skeedaddle ". I overheard her tell the waiter to void our ticket and we were not welcome there again. They were sorely understaffed for Memorial Day weekend, rude, and I wouldn't say very welcoming. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal and a welcoming environment. And the owner/manager needs to take some basic customer service training (along with the hostess) read more

Went on a "girls" trip to McCall and I recalled this restaurant from a couple of years ago when we went; however, when I walked in, I could immediately see that it has changed owners and what was a very cute place with awesome specialty coffees that were made picture perfect, this time had a very chaotic feel, and yes I know they were busy, but the entire decor and "feel" had changed. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about and the service was lacking. For the price, I would not recommend this place. read more

But I'm writing this review mostly for the food.....it was soooooo yummers!!! The breakfast burrito was huge and delish and came with your choice of side. We came to "The Den" in McCall during our April 2025 trip to Idaho. It was a chilly yet sunny day and the view of the lake was still frozen over but really pretty. I bet it's even better during the summer. Food, Service, and Ambiance were great. Owners are really cool and it was nice chatting with them while we were there. They have a unique mimosa flight with lots of different flavors. The bbq brisket was delicious. They smoke all their meat daily at the restaurant. Happened upon The Den on Father's day with my family and family visiting. Seated out on the patio with a great view of the lake and pleased that the restaurant wasn't busy at all, maybe 8 tables filled. Started out ok with drinks within 15 min and food order taken. After 45 min and noticing at least three tables seated after us (one with 6 people) were getting their food, we had to locate our waitress and ask about our order. She checked and said it would be another 5 min. After an additional 15 min I got up to ask for a manager. A guy (not a gentleman!) came out and started with "what's the problem?", I explained our time waiting and other folks receiving food with the restaurant not busy. He immediately became defensive stating an hour wasn't that long and asked me what should he do about it. His tone was demeaning and rude, he literally asked if we wanted our food or not, I was in shock by his attitude. I said we needed to eat but I felt so intimidated by this guy (which I've since figured out is the owner) and he kept at me asking how much of a discount I wanted?! The food came out, it was fair, none of us enjoyed it, discouted food but not the $20 for 4 iced teas, $38 in other drinks and they tried to add a large party tip. Will never return and will tell all of my Treasure Valley friends to not give them business when visiting the area. read more

The patio does have a wonderful view, however it took almost an hour to get our food on Fathers Day and is was not slammed. Mostly sandwiches, burger and salads. When my wife spoke with the manager, he was not professional or courteous with her and honestly rude. He did give us a discount, but he was being rude to her. Also they did let us know that they charge for refills on the ice tea at $5 each. read more

From the 5 star reviews I guess I was expecting...more. I had the biscuits and gravy, kids had the classic eggs and bacon and toast. Biscuits and gravy was plentiful with a nice kick in the gravy. We also had hash browns and some had potatoes. The hash browns are pretty typical at any breakfast joint, stringy and not super crispy. The home style potatoes were a little bit more unique and good. Not your typical home style potatoes, more like a mashed up and fried type of potatoes. We brought our kids and grandkids to McCall for the weekend and planned to eat at a local Mexican restaurant, but with an hour wait, we decided to try The Den instead--and we're glad we did! Our party of 10 was seated quickly by the friendly owner, and drinks arrived fast. While waiting, the grandkids stayed entertained with tic-tac-toe. The food came out in pairs, and everything looked and tasted fantastic. I loved my warm ham and cheese hoagie with fries, and my husband said his BLT was one of the best he's ever had. Had the worst restaurant experience I've ever had! Hostess was extremely rude and unwelcoming, rolled her eyes at us when we told her we did not have a reservation. Honestly should have left before we got to the table to save ourselves 2 hours of our lives. Table was dirty. Floor was dirty. Silverware was crusty. Things started out great with the server until we put our order in. Little did we know we would be ignored by our server for AN HOUR AND A HALF until our food came out. As a fellow server, I get it, man I get it, but communicate with your table. Let them know the food is taking longer than normal and ask if they want something else to drink. Just a thought! When the food did come out I was anything but impressed. Potatoes were soggy and had no seasoning, food was just, meh. Prices don't reflect what you receive. Shocked I got eyes rolled at me over not having a reservation to a dirty little diner. OH and to finish this whole review off, you're not Starbucks, why are you charging $8.25 for an iced latte with a pump of caramel? That's laughable! We stopped into this restaurant as we were passing through town and what a pleasant surprise it was! From the street it's a little underrated, but the restaurant is downstairs overlooking the lake with a huge outdoor deck and expansive lake views. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, clean and bright. The food was incredible. The best Reuben sandwich we've ever had and homemade clam chowder that was exceptional and much more interesting than your run of the mill chowder. The only time the Den has dissapointed us is when they had a 34 seat reservation and we couldn't get a table. Seriously, The Den never disappoints otherwise. My companion has settled into the Build-Your-Own-Omelet with a House Smoked Brisket and I vasilate between straight eggs/bacon/hasbrowns/toast and the hand dipped Chicken Fried Steak.
