Came here because it was a chain we don't have at home and it sounded interesting. Line was short but took a LONG time. Literally 2 people in front and was almost 15 minutes before we got to order. Then when we were ordering for two people, the process was taking long time. Then cook in the back said "we don't have any runza bread left". They were running out of their namesake!!! We did get ours but the 2 people behind us had to settle for burgers. When we got the food, very little meat but tin of sauce. Squirted out. Flavor was not good. Place was ran down and was not clean. Not sure if this was bad neighborhood but that shouldn't be excuse. Definitely seemed like a place in verge of shutting down soon. read more

Bit of an odd review in the sense that the Runza location we ended up going to on West O street (because the interwebs absolutely assured us that there is zero difference between locations and the original one no longer exists) is not on Yelp, so we're just randomly picking this one to state our complicated feelings about Runza. After a glorious experience at Glur's Tavern last night, we came to this Nebraskan food mecca with nothing but good will in our hearts. Sure, the place is as nondescript as a McDonald's and a couple tables were filthy, but no matter! Stay positive! The youngen working the register was very sweet and we patiently waited for what we were sure would be the state's finest. Let's start off with the good: frings! (TM). Love the concept, love the crisp, we are fans. The chili is not what mom makes, but she's not bad! Chicken tenders: if you've had some at an airport, then you have had these though we're not mad atcha. But the titular runza itself--the star, the glory--was awful. Just awful! The bread was mushy and tasted like it was recently microwaved and the meat inside was bland and oily. Very unappetizing and very disappointing! We know that this is controversial to say, but a pizza pocket would have been better! And our daughter's cheeseburger, which was literally tiny, wasn't much better. What a disappointment. Crushing! We should have cut our losses, but prairie hope sprang eternal so we got a kids ice cream cone and a strawberry milkshake. The soft serve is that slushy (viz, not creamy) kind, and the milkshake was a florescent chemical situation that was oddly addictive. One of our top pet peeves: straws not sufficient for drinking! Get a wider straw!!! So, yes, we went to a Runza and can tell the tale, but wish we would have better things to say about it. Three stars. read more

Finally got a chance to have a Runza Sandwich. The mushroom Swiss was pretty good but just a tad salty. The fries were golden crisp...very tasty! I'd love to get back and try other menu items. Our order taker was very friendly and helped explain the menu as we were out of towners. Much appreciated. :) read more

This time I ordered the beef bacon Runza, a bowl of chili, some onion rings and a large Mountain Dew. All was good. First time trying the chili and I love it! Now that the Student Union Runza location has closed, this is the most centrally located Runza in Lincoln. The staff is great, and the food is always good. The interior had been renovated in the last number of years, and the seating area is more expansive than it looks from the street. The main draw back of this location is the exterior. The parking lot is small and awkward with the drive thru route going through it. The lunch hour is pretty busy, and the backed up drive thru combined with a full parking lot can get pretty hectic. But you can always find street parking. read more

I know this is a Nebraska favorite but I was not a fan of the food. The staff were pleasant, the location was clean and quick. I know they are very supportive as a business to the local community- University of Nebraska, in particular so I wanted to support them but maybe I need more advice on what to order because I don't think I'd order a Runza sandwich again next time. read more

I moved in across the street from this Runza Hut about a year ago. Boy has their staff been upgraded! The new crew is right at the station when you walk in the door. It's nice to be able to get a Runza, although they are not quite as good as my grandma's. Their Spicy Jack hamburger is the bomb, though. I think I'm addicted. Give it a try if you like things well-seasoned. It also comes in a Runza. But I haven't tried that. ( Not authentic.) read more

I looked up what local fast food restaurants to try while coming into Nebraska and Runza was no doubt the place to go. Unlike my only White Castle experience, this was not a colossal disappointment. What's a Runza? Well, its like a Piroshki. What's a piroshki? Well, um, its seasoned ground meat with onions and spices and sometimes cheese... whats not to love!? I love Runza's! Not ever having one and visiting Nebraska for work I was told I had to try a Runza. Then in my head and my inner 8 year I asked "Will it give me the Runza?" hahaha Sorry, couldn't help it! I am childish :) I got a combo Runza - basic ground beef with shredded and cooked way down cabbage (so cooked down I had no clue it was cabbage) with a slice of cheese in an enclosed soft bread/bun. It was really good! Really good! Long like a hoagie and very flavorful. The combo came with FRING'S! Who doesn't love Fring's! They also have this onion dip sauce that is pretty good too. Pretty good and tasty. Staff SUPER friendly - but everyone in NE so far has been SUPER friendly! read more

Runza is kind of like the In-N-Out of the midwest. Too bad they stay within the borders of Nebraska (as far as I'm aware anyway) I had the number 2 combo meal which is a cheeseburger and fries. The burger tasted fresh and the fries were crispy without feeling like they were clogging arteries. Good stuff. The bread was a bit McDonalds-y but the rest of the ingredients made up for it. If I had to complain about something it would be that the place feels like it was built in the 70s and hadn't really been maintained since. But then, this is a place you don't really go for the environment. Overall though, the burgers are great and they have a bunch of other items that, if they're as fresh as the burgers, really can't be bad. read more

I was just there and this is absolutely disgusting. The entire runza fell apart immediately when I unwrapped it. The breading is just bits of break with breaks all over it. It is overloaded with oil and terribly executed. DO NOT GO TO THIS RUNZA. The customer service doesn't even measure up to how bad this is. read more

Went to this location to get a quick bite to eat and it was just the opposite than quick. It took me a staggering 35 minutes to get my food. There were multiple cars in the drive thru in front of us and behind us so it's not like they were starting to close down and shut off their grills. To top it all off the food tastes terrible. Runza is one of the most overrated restaurants in America, just based on the intense fanaticism in the midwest. I've been a lot of places and eaten all over, and Runza is still toward the bottom of my "all time" list. I just don't get it. Maybe once every few years I'll get a runza again to give it another shot, but it only serves as a reminder why I don't like them. Soggy, greasy, beef in a bread-bag. Their fries are usually great, but the runzas themselves... I just don't understand how anyone enjoys them. On may 8th 2012 I arrived at the the Runza on 13th st in Lincoln shortly after 8 pm and the lobby was closed but the drive through was still open, I walked over to the speaker and they refused to serve me because they said that it was corporate policy to only allow cars in the drive through even though the two young ladies in front of me were allow to place their order, I guess my but and legs were not cute enough. read more
