Ask any displaced Nebraskan what they miss most about their home state & the name Runza is almost always sure to be high on their list. It is simply a cultural and regional phenomenon. The Runza itself is an old world food coming from places like Russia, Hungary & Germany. That's what makes it's appeal so remarkable. It's something that is seemingly out of place in today's dining scene yet it thrives in the heart of the Midwest. When I was a kid there was just one kind of Runza. The traditional. Browned ground beef, onions, cabbage, salt & pepper encased in a bun the size of your hand. Down the line Cheese Runzas & Italian Runzas made their way onto the menu, but for the the original is where it's at. It is the perfect meal. As for sides, you can't go wrong with the fries. Always perfectly crisped & salted they are fantastic. But I prefer the onion rings. Big, crispy & fried to perfection, these bad boys go perfect with a side of French Onion dip. Now, if you want to take your Runza experience to the next level, find a Runza vendor at a Nebraska football game in Memorial Stadium. Because the only thing better than eating a Runza is eating a runza while the Blackshirts shatter the pelvis of another quarterback.

Runza is a must when I come home to visit. This is the location I always seem to end up at.

I will say if you dine in, the seating is not conducive to be comfy or relaxed. The booths are bright orange and the seats are a hard plastic. For me, to enjoy a great meal then the ambiance and seating will help seal the deal. If you don't fuss about your seating but want tasty Mexican food you have come to the right place. This time I was in the mood for a taco salad in the bowl which eating the bowl is half of the fun. The salad is layered with smoldering meat, diced onions, crispy shredded lettuce throughout the salad sprinkled with gigantic amounts of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and topped with fresh crisp cool tomatoes. They provide a mild, medium, and hot taco sauce packet. I hate the packets because they are hard to open with your fingers and using my teeth as a pair of dull scissors is a bit frustrating. I ordered a Diet Coke but they serve Pepsi products. Bummer. It still went down cool and smooth with the right amount of ice. I did not have any dessert. To be honest, when I eat Mexican, sweets are not a treat! The prices were not too steep. The servings were ample. I thought I got my money's worth. The service was ok. I have to say nobody stood out as a star server. I am a regular because the food melted in my mouth with a dash of crunchy. I will be back when I get the urge for super delicious Mexican food! If you can roll with it and overlook the idiosyncrasies, the rest makes for a great night out.

Simple tacos average at best, at over $2.00 a taco there are way better choices for that price.read more
