Showing time we were turned away
Maria S.

We arrived at 9 pm on Sunday. Their hours are until 10pm. After a few minutes a server approached us and said they were no longer seating tables. I confirmed if they were supposed to be closing at 10 and she said we do but we decided to close earlier today. I was upset by this because my Dad and I had a long day at the hospital visiting a family member and when we wanted to eat my Dad had suggested "another diner". I pushed for us to come to this one because it was closer to home and had better reviews than his suggestion. I was highly disappointed that we were turned away because "they decided to close early". My dad is retired from the restaurant industry and even he said he'd never heard of anything like that before. After this sour experience I'm not sure I'll be coming back again.

Easy to get to location. Staff was very nice and attentive. Food came out in a reasonable time. Nice clean looking diner. I got a special for lunch, which was very good. The Monte Carlo and we also got the chicken quesadilla. It was huge.

Nice and clean diner and the service was decent. The food was great so I would actually go back and try different dishes from the menu!

This diner looks clean. It looks like an updated diner. We went on Saturday morning and there wasn't a wait and there wasn't many people dining in. The first thing that caught my eye is when I asked for the kids menu they stated they didn't offer one. I was a bit surprised for a diner not to offer a kids menu. This establishment is an average dining experience. The food wasn't out of the normal. The prices were pretty high, especially for diner food. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but if I was in the area it was okay.

This place is fairly clean, has a nice sized parking lot and offers a pretty robust menu. The service was not the friendliest but the hostess was very nice and welcoming. My issue is the relative value to food quality ratio wasn't that good here. In short, they charge pretty high prices for a diner compared to some other nearby options and the food wasn't so awesome that I thought - well gee, I'd sure come here again given what I just paid. The French dip sandwich that was recommended to me was fine but not $20+ dollar fine. Fries were crispy but overall the sandwich itself lacked any real flavor and the meat was kind of dry. The good au jus gravy was what sort of saved the dish. The burger was average. Patty was ok but not particularly juicy or memorable. The price of the burger here was much higher than a nearby option that tasted better IMO so again, that's what was the sticking point for me. If the service was amazing I'd prob make this 3 stars but it was spotty and at times unresponsive. It wasn't particularly busy when I went on a Sunday morning so not sure what's going on there. Either way, I think it's better to consider other diner options if possible.

We stopped by for breakfast and couldn't have been happier! I ordered the carnitas quesadillas breakfast and it was delicious. Runway is a proper diner, I noticed all the great food around me. A must try!

HUGE glass of FRESH SQUEEZED OJ

Best diner I have been to and I have been to many. HUGE glass of FRESH SQUEEZED OJ! At other diners it's usually generic stuff out of a can, but not here. A little more expensive than other diners, but well worth it.

We're so glad we did, because this hole in the wall turned out to be a diamond in the rough. With a nondescript exterior and limited signage, Foodies Diner is easy to miss. It's in an area with mainly houses and mixed use commercial buildings, but the space inside is cozy. I especially appreciated the way the owner greeted everyone who enters and thanked everyone who leaves with notable warmth and small-town friendliness. The menu reads like a true diner - with all-day breakfast and brunch options, as well as standard lunch fare. We ordered a Santa Fe salad and an L.A. burger - which comes with avocado, bacon, onion, lettuce, and tomatoes. The burger was pretty standard, but having it delivered on a warm brioche bun feels a little bit special. The accompanying fries were also great - crisp and potatoey on the inside. The salad, on the other hand, was a near triumph. Served on a large platter, there was a small field of well-seasoned chicken, shredded cheddar, vegetables, avocado, pico de gallo, and - best yet - some pieces of warm, toasted pita. I even sprinkled some pieces of bacon from my burger into this salad, and wow did that take it over the top. I dug into this salad with fair gusto and would absolutely come back for it...which is saying something, since I wouldn't expect to fall in love with a salad at a diner. Service was fantastic, and we were pleased with how reasonably priced our meal turned out to be. There's plenty of parking - either right out front or in the lot further back.

The restaurant has an interesting history. Even though the original opened in Cresskill, NJ, it unfortunately has permanently closed. However, not only is the Edgewater location amazing, but it had the guts to open during COVID (2022), survived, and is succeeding. The restaurant is beautiful inside and outside. Their decorations are tasteful, the presentation of the food is award winning, and the service is stellar. I started with a Mocha Cappuccino and it was so good. Served in a large mug, an airy/creamy top, and had the perfect amount of mocha happiness throughout. Before the meal even started, we were graciously given Za'atar (a popular Middle Eastern spice blend with an earthy, tangy, and nutty flavor, toasted sesame seeds, and sumac, with salt). It was crunchy, drizzled with oil, and I enjoyed how each thin pita bite made the spices explode all over the table. The entrees were: Strawberry French Toast. The next was the Falafel Platter (chickpeas and fava bean balls, served with tahini sauce, pickles, turnips, tomato, and mint). The last selection was the Avocado Toast (Citrus cured salmon over multigrain bread, tomatoes, onions, capers & citrus vinaigrette). Not only were all of these dishes beautifully presented, but all were filling, as well. My Avocado Toast kept me full for the rest of the day and the salmon was enjoyably salty, thin, and delicious. I noticed a dessert in their display case and ordered it. The dessert was the Riz Bil Ashta (Lebanese rice cream, infused with orange blossom water, blended with milk and cheese, and topped with crushed pistachios). This dessert tasted like a regal custard and the pistachios added an enjoyable texture that makes it recommended. Of course, I had to cap the meal with a Mocchiato. This amazing beverage followed the rest of the meal..... delicious, eyes closed good, and every sip was full-flavored. Thank you, Madison Café and Grill, for presenting a memorable meal and I wish you continued success.

Usually BYOB spots struggle to create the right ambiance, but this place has something special going on. We may have had a bit too much fun because we literally closed the place down with the staff. The food was outstanding. I highly recommend ordering a few appetizers and sharing them at the table because that is what we did and everything was deliciously decadent. The burrata was packed with flavor and the basil foam was impressive. The octopus with potatoes hit perfectly. I already know I need to go back for the crab empanadas and the short rib croquettes soon. For our mains, my wife and I shared the short rib yucca gnocchi and the lobster and ricotta ravioli. We were left ignored for over 20 minutes after seating. Finally when the waiter arrived for a drink order we had asked for a coffee to start. That didn't arrive until almost another 25 minutes and were told the bar area was busy. The food itself wasn't amazing or memorable. Ordered the cauliflower app- the sauce was too watery and didn't coat or stick to the cauliflower. If it was thickened it would glaze the cauliflower and you could actually appreciate how good it was and the dish would be so much better. For the mains we ordered the salmon burger and lemon ricotta pancakes. Both were ok but nothing amazing. The worst part was the speakers playing a happy birthday song that was extremely loud that even 2 other tables looked confused and disturbed by it. It played for well over a few minutes. I can appreciate a party being celebrated but not at the expense of the patrons in the restaurant. Also just a heads up- they add a 2.5% service charge to the bill. Only noticed this because the table seated next to us shared this and were upset by it.

It was more refreshing than savory or warm. We both got fresh juices. Both were delicious and the service was great attentive welcoming, and we were seated within half an hour of waiting in line after 10:30 AM on a Saturday. We may have been seated earlier, but I don't recall exactly when we started waiting in line. If you are a party bigger than two they have a separate line which may be a longer wait but it's more of a waitlist line. Whereas the other line is you waiting in line when you get seated as tables become available for parties of one or two people. Ambience is pretty laid-back and relaxed. There is parking at the main level of this plaza but also there is a parking garage below with more parking spots available.

With our options limited, we decided to try Café August. We ordered the strawberry Nutella croffle, matcha shaved ice, pineapple sparkling ade and white peach sparkling ade. Everything was 10/10. The croffle was the perfect "appetizer" to introduce us to a night of sweets. It came out promptly, looked gorgeous, and was ideally crunchy with juicy strawberries on top. The shaved ice was my favorite. We opted for the bowl, which easily fed three people, and could have possibly fed five. The shaved ice was sweet, fluffy, dusted with matcha powder, and had what felt like endless toppings, including matcha ice cream, red bean, mochi, and more. There were enough toppings for everyone! The drinks deserve their own review- they are spectacular with a frozen teddy bear ice cube on top. Such cute presentation! The pineapple flavor was slightly stronger, and the white peach was subtler and very refreshing. We could not stop playing with and admiring the frozen teddy bears. Overall, this shop feels underrated compared to other spots on Broad Ave. Would would definitely come here again and so nice that they are open late. Thank you, Café August! PS. I came here with high expectations based on the reviews, and while the food was decent, a few things fell short. We tried a variety of pastas: Rose Shrimp, Rose Chicken, Seafood Cream, Tomato Meat Sauce, Toowoomba Shrimp, and Truffle Mushroom. They are all very rich, creamy, but also heavy, and tasted good for what they are. The Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza was also a hit, loved how cheesy it was, though I personally wished for a bit more sauce and a crispier crust. The Drinks & Dessert: This is where I was disappointed. The coffee tasted like a basic office espresso, which was a letdown. As for the Bingsoo, it didn't quite hit the mark. If you're looking for a great Bingsoo, I'd recommend Blossom right next door instead. Come for a filling, creamy pasta lunch/dinner, but grab your coffee and dessert elsewhere!
