I came in as I won an Asics gift certificate for placing in a recent race. I heard Asics footwear was a popular brand in running shoe choice so hoped to find something to wear for my upcoming half marathon. The guys here are super helpful and friendly. They even tag-team me by providing useful info on the Asics brand. They brought out 3 pairs of Asics stability shoes. Out of the 3, I opted for the GT-2160 ($100). It's been a couple of runs and I've been pretty satisfied with my purchase. Although I probably will stick to my Nike+ Structures for my upcoming halfie, I do plan on busting out the Asics for the next half in Oct. This will buy me some time to be more comfy running long distances in these new babies! Thanks for the Mandarin Orange GU, guys!!! read more

Family owned business with a great staff that are friendly and have the necessary expertise to help runners of all levels. Both Lauren and Jamie helped me pick out replacements for my Asics Kayano's. After watching my run on their indoor track Lauren made a few suggestions. I tried on the HOKA ONE ONE shoes and knew immediately that I was going home with them. Very comfortable like little cloud hugs for your feet. At $160 some would find it a little pricey but I would argue that it is money well spent to get the right shoe and avoid unnecessary injury or discomfort. Far from elite runner, I've gone to other local running stores but have never felt as welcome as I did today at the Running Center. Seriously, the Running Center has become my favorite running store and Lauren & Jamie my go-to experts for shoes, apparel, etc. Thanks for the wonderful service! read more

I took my boyfriend here last week to buy him new running shoes. It was my way of getting him to run with me as I've been running for 6 years now and need him to be on board by now.. Haha. Unfortunately I never got the name of the guy who helped us, but he was very helpful and patient with my indecisive boyfriend. We were there for about an hour. They are a small local business and will continue to support them in the future. I went into the running center for a better walking/standing shoe for my plantar fasciitis. George was very knowledgeable and he spent an hour choosing the best shoe for my gait and the stability I needed. I know shopping online is very convenient, but being able to try on MANY different shoes to find the perfect pair is so worth it ! I highly recommend going into the store ! read more

I really wanted a pair of good walking shoes and I had never been to this place but decided to pop in. The lady that helped me was so unbelievably awesome! I gave her a quick run down that I'm a busy body and want some good walkings shoes with arch support and am a size 7-8 and she came out with about 5 boxes of shoes for me to try one. I was able to find the most amazing shoes within like 10 minutes and be out of the store. I have never had such a wonderful experience getting shoes!! I'm not sure of the employees name but she was awesome! The shoes were quite pricey though but I know the shoes will last and are totally worth it! Thank you Running Center for helping my daughter develop her interest in running. Her PE teacher was very influential In helping her learn how to develop her fitness. The staff were very attentive in analyzing her gait and running style. They had a variety running shoes to chose from. I went in to the Running Center looking to be fitted for a pair of shoes based on my running style, which before tonight, I had known nothing about. Went in and explained that I am a beginning runner and I've been experiencing some shin pains while running. I was given a pair of shoes to wear and ran back and forth in the store while being recorded on video. I was then educated on the difference between neutral and pronating running types, and based on the video, I was assessed as neutral. Out came many different boxes of neutral running shoes, and I tried on all of them, running back and forth on the indoor track and assessing the fit. After all was said and done, I walked out with two pairs of shoes, as I loved the fit and cushion of both. One brand was a brand that I've purchased plenty of in the past, and the other was a brand of shoe I've never owned. After getting out for a run in my new shoes, I couldn't be happier. The end to end experience of the shoe buying experience at the Running Center was exactly what I was hoping for, and I'll definitely be back for my running needs. read more

My daughter is a High School track athlete. I know very little about running shoes, except that the one time I went to one of those fancy running stores that has you run on a treadmill, and does all that fancy analysis of your step, turned out to not tell me anything that I could not figure out on my own with a little common sense, so I certainly didn't want to spend time and money on that. The young lady that helped us at Running Center was very knowledgable about size, fit and the performance of the different shoes. She was able to recommend a few shoes that she thought would best serve my daughter's needs. After a few days of training, my daughter said that her new shoes are an incredible improvement over her last shoes, which were of the same brand but different style. I feel like we got great service, and I was pleasantly surprised to get out of there at such a reasonable price. read more

I've been running for as long as I can remember, but after college, my knees took a toll on me and I stopped with the marathons, cross country and the sprinting. This also means I need much more support for my feet now so my knees won't take all the strain. I came here a few weeks ago to get fitted for my feet since I feel like the arch has somewhat changed through the years. Sure enough, that was the case and I had to get custom fitted. I loved the customer service here and no one forced me to get anything. I did end up walking away with a few pairs of sneakers that would have cost so much more had I went anywhere else. I have since then started running on the treadmill and light jogging outdoors again and with no discomfort after 6-10 miles. I might try to run a half marathon again if this comfort stays with me. However, I'm not training for anything at the moment, just trying to get back to what I love doing. read more

I went there for the first time today. This place is awesome! Clean, organized, and well-stocked. The prices for shoes were in line with other stores. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable, and personable. The sales associate I worked with had a lot of personal experience running and was passionate about the product. He took his time with me and made sure I had the right shoe and a great fit. They have a free rewards program too. I was a loyal RoadRunner customer for many years, but as soon as I got home from Running Center, I canceled my "VIP" RoadRunner discount membership. My experience at Running Center was just so spectacular, I can't imagine going anywhere else for running and workout gear. read more

Running is about more than just getting up and going. It's about being prepared. As we all know comfortable shoes can make a huge difference, but it's not all about comfort and cushion. It's also about support. Most people walk weird, for most activities this doesn't matter, but after miles and miles of the same motion slight twinges and feelings become exaggerated and that soreness and pain isn't' your foot getting stronger it's making you not want to run. Almost all the major brands like Nike and Adidas use a very generic platform because they are going for that wide audience. Most people, even fit people who run don't know what type of runner they are and this is the most important thing. It's the runners who know the importance of this. That wearing less stylish from lesser known brands that fit right will do infinitely more for your running than vapor frees from Nike because you got a deal and it came with some generic pedometer. I got fitted here years ago and have been coming back ever since. What I think is strange is although I used to be a normal pronate runner, with my cycling my muscular development has changed me to over pronate to where I need more stable shoes. This is something they picked up on over the years and have addressed in their recommendations. Not bad. You will never get that kind of service anywhere else. Their prices aren't the lowest, but they have a wide selection. Everything they carry is tried, tested and true. Nothing overly fancy or gimmicky, just what you want and what you need. The only bad thing is their hours and their parking lot. I find this location to be a little old. They have been around a long time and will be for longer. read more

Come here to buy your running shoes . . . your joints will thank you! I love The Running Center for purchasing running shoes. I appreciate their expertise in determining the shoe that compliments my running technique (or lack thereof). The staff is really good at making sure you leave with the right shoe. First they watch you run inside on "the strip" and if you think you've found your next favorite running shoe then you can test drive it in the parking lot. Also, the staff is energetic and gladly will pull a bunch of different shoes from the back room for you to try on, until you find the perfect fit. Wow, what a difference it makes in your running when you are wearing the right shoe. I always feel a little spring in my step when I get new shoes from here. The only downside is that you're less likely to get a sale price here. There are some sales and some promotions but if your a bargain shoe shopper, this isn't the place for you. However, keep in mind that a $125 pair of shoes is a lot cheaper than a knee replacement, physical therapy, foot surgery, etc. read more

I was in the Carlsbad area for work the other day and had time to kill on lunch. I stopped in to browse their selection and came across a variety of iFitness race number belts. I've seen people wearing them at recent races and never knew where to find one. Lauren, the sales girl that helped me, chatted me up and told me that The Running Center is one of the few places on the West Coast that had them! I got one for me and one for my boyfriend. They had a great selection of shoes and a variety of nutrition. Lauren knew about all the bars and gels and and was able to answer every question we had. read more

I used to be a top customer for this Running Center. I was very loyal to them. I got all my shoes there and other running products and I run about 3,500 miles a year so you do the math. Recently, they got rid of the manager there who was the glue that held everything together and replaced her with some "Instagram famous" rando. They did so so abruptly and for no reason even though she was the nicest person I could have asked to have working them. She made me feel like family there. So for making an irrational decision I feel like there should be some consequences, because bad things shouldn't happen to good people. I am therefore officially choosing to boycott Running Center. read more

I just went in to get fitted and had an amazing experience. I was helped by Jasmyn and she was very knowledgeable and patient with me! She was very attentive even though she was simultaneously helping someone else she made me feel important and I could tell the other people felt the same! Also she made me feel extremely comfortable! The brand was one that I had never heard of, "Topo", but it fit my wife's foot perfectly and made her feel much safer when walking outdoors. While I was waiting, I noticed a pair of shoes that were a brand I had read about (Kizik). My son is in the fancy sneaker business--he sells high end Nike SB Dunk shoes and likes it when I wear those--but I decided to get a pair of Kizik shoes anyhow. They work well for me, but I only wear them on days when I know I won't see my son or his children, who would rat on me for not wearing Nikes.

I went to the POWAY location and returned my shoes. They had my correct Size in the store but I declined to buy theM because they had VERY OBVIOUSLY been worn. The employee offered to clean them for me which I thought was a little weird. I don't know about you, but I'm not paying $85 for used shoes. So I went ahead and purchased another pair online and they arrived in three days. (See images) What are the chances They tried to sell me another obviously used pair? Filth! When I took them to the POWAY location they were very nice and refunded my money. The employee explained that their policy is to just clean the dirty, used shoe and resell it for the new price-- and that my particular pair of shoes came from STORE 697. The ENCINITAS location. It was explained to me that the employee at that store , (employee number 295956) who prepared the order didn't clean the shoe before they resold it to me for the new price. I've been a rewards member for years And have been shopping at famous footwear my whole life. That ends today. Order from an honest seller. Reselling dirty shoes for new prices is not only unhygienic but it's unethical and bad business practice. I'm Disgusted that I've purchased ALL of my kids shoes through this company. Note: this has also been sent to corporate. I'm going to shout this from the roof tops.
