    Entrance to Runaway Mine Train

A classic ride, which I am glad Six Flags has kept all these years. The park doesn't have many mid-level thrills like this.

One of the first tubular steel coasters ever built!

It's hard to beat the original. That's right folks, this was the very first 'mine train' style roller coaster in history, and it debuted here at SFOT back in 1966. In fact, it's one of the first tubular steel coasters worldwide, and its existence helped to usher in a new era of thrill machines. What makes a mine train coaster unique is its length, measured not in feet of track, but rather ride duration (as in seconds on the clock). Most offer relatively milder thrills in comparison to their 200ft/80mph brethren, but can still run upwards of 3 minutes, which is quite long by roller coaster standards. Several top out at only 50ft in height and rarely surpass 30 or 40mph, yet often times the rough-and-tumble ride can still leave you pleasantly surprised and/or battered & bruised. SFOT's Runaway Mine Train has three separate lift hills (multiple chain lifts are yet another distinct feature of these types of rides) and some mining-themed objects dispersed throughout the course. There are also several tunnels, the last of which dives underneath a small lake. This is an ACE (American Coaster Enthusiast) landmark, and rightly so! The sign in the entrance queue states this [see attached] and they're even given a nice shout-out following the 3rd lift hill, where the train passes through the 'Ace' Saloon and Hotel, which is not a coincidence. Because this ride--like many mine trains across the world--rely heavily on the terrain and low-to-the-ground maneuvers to deliver thrills, the coaster closes when the area experiences flooding or high water levels. Apart from that, the ride crews keep it running constantly and wait times are negligibly small. So while this may not be the fastest, longest or scariest ride around, its role in roller coaster history cannot be argued, and it's perfect for families and young'uns getting their coaster ridin' training wheels. Yeehaw!

Also most rides only had one cart going at a time, so even spending extra money on Fast Lanes was iffy because the waits were still long. The same employee was dropping her measuring stick every 2 minutes, handing off her employee phone and stick to a guest waiting to get on the ride to put on her jacket, leaning over the wooden part and telling everyone she was tired and just wanted to go home. Not the energy someone wants to encounter after waiting almost an hour for Fast Lanes. On the same ride, they made everyone move down 2 rows to let a family that wasn't waiting in line pick where they wanted to sit. We were bummed out because we did not want to be in the back and got moved to the back without warning. I do believe this letting families jump the line and pick where they sit is not okay especially for the people who paid extra for fast lanes. After getting bumped to the back row we were disappointed because we'd been in the back row for every ride we had been on and that was our final ride of the day. Also, if you plan to use the app to navigate your day, be cautious of the wait times. Each ride had a different wait time than what we saw in the app, and we ended up waiting even longer than what the app said.

The staff is hit or miss too. A lot of the time it looks like they don't want to be there, but then you'll run into some employees who are actually really nice and helpful. My biggest issue is the Flash Pass. I usually buy the 90% reduced wait time option and it's insanely expensive, but somehow I still end up waiting in long lines even with it, which defeats the whole point. That said, this place isn't all bad, and it's not a 1 star for a reason. The park feels more sanitary now and you can tell they're making improvements to try to make it better. One warning: do not get FanShield, they won't give you your money back. Also, I wouldn't recommend ordering tickets online, do it in person just in case.

Damn ... why such a low aggregate score for this place?…read more I'm reading a lot of these negative reviews and it seems like there are some common, reoccurring themes I'm noticing: 1. Ppl who purchased multiple races and having to wait upwards of 1.5+ hrs in between races (but being passed up if others tipped the operators??) 2. Mechanically broken karts 3. Bad flag waver / intentional slow down of karts 4. Bad customer service My brother, dad and I were in town for a weekend for a cowboys vs ravens game (dad is a diehard fan). On the monday, which was our last day in town, we had a chunk of time after lunch to do something before catching our flight. We decided to hit this place up as it was near our hotel. Maybe because it was a workday and we were the only customers (there was 1 other family there) but we didn't experience many of the negative things I listed above so our experience was VASTLY different than what other customers are reporting. It seemed like all karts were operational, there was no flag waver for our races and we did NOT have to wait at all in between races. I DO think they did turn up the kart speeds at the halfway lap mark and also dialed them back down near the end but I'm just going off of personal feel. We experienced very good customer service! The lady (manager I'm assuming) that helped us at the front desk was quite pleasant and the two gentlemen manning the track for the day were nice too. We did 3 races and I managed to place 1st in one of them (the dad from the other family was an absolute beast). I noticed that this K1 Speed is a lil different from the one back home in the racing format. Here it was personal time trial. Each person was trying to see who could have the fastest personal lap and at the end the best personal lap times were ranked. While this was an interesting format, I prefer the traditional placement format more, where your final rank is based on who finished the race first, physically. I'm wondering if this could be changed/adjusted if you spoke to the staff or if it's an unchangeable, default racing format? Anyways, had a lot of fun. It's definitely pricey as some have pointed out (because of the baked in membership fee), but I guess coming on a workday was a good idea as opposed to a weekend day? Fun, memorable activity before flying back to Toronto!

But when we signed up they said it would just be a slight wait... over an hour and a half later we finally got called up. If you have never been to a K1 course before you need to know it is all about speed... these carts can fly! But coming in first does not mean a thing... it is fastest lap and overall course speed. The corse is a wicked inside track with hair pin turns and thin lines.. it is an adrenaline rush! We got set and then seriously ate this course up! My son and I were bumping and scraping the whole way but in the end ... he beat me. Yep race one... he beat me. However in race two I crushed him. What a great time! We had a blast!! My sone is a heck of a racer... I loved getting beat by him... and liked breaking even. So much fun!

Went around 3pm on a Thursday and getting in to park was the easiest part of the day. We walked in and tried to scan our cards and the girl tells me one of my cards is just for parking and the other card is invalid. She continues to look at me until I finally asked "do I need to go to guest services?" And she mumbled a yes. Get to guest services and you can see plenty of people inside but only one window is being utilized. An employee finally comes to the window and I explain what happened in line, he goes above and beyond trying to help me get the situation resolved. He takes a picture of what he has just in case and thankfully he did as when I went back into line, the card on the app still didn't work. This girl looked confused but she called someone over to help her and we got it resolved. I was surprised to find a chair but if I tell you the chairs are sitting on top of each other so be prepared to get to know your neighbor. With the new season pass and I got the all park passport one, you get a free flash pass per one ride and one Halloween band which you can access all of the Haunted Houses. I ended up doing 4 out of 8 houses. My advice is to do them early as the lines are short and did not wait for no longer than 15 minutes or wait till park closes. The haunted houses are alright. I am not into being scared, but decided to try them out as the lines were not long and I was curious to see if $50 dollars was even worth it. I would say it is not. I would say Cedar Fair parks do a better job at this, but when going through this there was a little scare here and there, but sort of glad it was not. I just wanted to see the thing. The park does get extremely crowded especially during Fright Fest so be prepared to wait in line. The good news is most of the rides are opened even the water rides. I rode the log ride late at night as the lines are very short like 15 minutes at most as some of the rides can be 1-2 hours. The food lines can be ridiculous too. I finally tried out the mobile online ordering for the first time and it was a disaster. I waited an hour to get my food and I saw others that waited in line and order get their food way faster. I did also the kiosk to order, but somehow it takes quite a bit 30 minutes and figuring out how to use your dining plan can be tricky and not obvious as it took me awhile to figure it out. I tried this out at Johnny Rocket's and JB BBQ and had the same experience. I did see their haunted show and it was alright, just a bunch of singing and dancing, but it was good place to relax. I had a good time overall and I did stay from opening to closing and time flew by quickly so I had no issues. I wanted to take a picture of the Looney Tunes characters, but I could not find them in their usual spot.
