New Texas Giant

RMC has taken what was a way too rough and ambitious wooden coaster and turned it into not just the best steel coaster, but the best coaster in the park.

Robert C.

The Texas Giant is everything a roller coaster should be all about, beginning with a high dip and turns and dips. Love the Texas Giant! That first dip is a good one, I don't care who you are it's going to be intense. This is a roller coaster riding more then once and a must visiting the park.

The first drop on NTG, 79°!

TOP 10 WOODEN COASTERS - #6 ________________________ Giddy on up! Rocky Mountain Construction came in and--once again--re-tracked the entire layout of a former Lone Star State classic wooden coaster (Iron Rattler being the other). Unlike every other Rocky Mountain refurb job, this doesn't have any inversions but that makes it no less extreme of a ride. Using the existing support structure of the former Texas Giant, RMC intensified the drops, increased the banking on most turns, and amplified the overall ride experience. The end result is a breathtaking ride that does the great state of Texas justice. I created a new page for this ride, since it appears that the other page is for the old Texas Giant, which no longer exists. The only similarities are in name and concrete footer placement, everything else is completely different. Better. The former coaster was a wooden monstrosity that delivered a fairly rough ride, whereas this adaptation runs smooth as silk. The pacing is relentless and this ride is a veritable airtime machine; NTG offers up more negative G's than just about any other roller coaster still in operation. I especially enjoyed the 4 short tunnels at the end, two of which have LED light displays. ~Special ride elements~ *153ft tall lift hill with a first drop at 79° *Double-up *95° overbanked turn *Tunnel (x4) NTG, like its neighbor Titan, features zippered pockets in-car so you can stash your phone/wallet without fear of it falling from your pocket. The train is fashioned to look like an old Cadillac and comes complete with horns on the first car, a snazzy touch. Ride crews were quick and wait times were virtually nonexistent. The train's plastic side shields seem a little odd, perhaps as an attempt to keep riders' arms "inside the vehicle at all times"? Long story short, The New Texas Giant is an absolute must on your visit to SFOT. A tremendously thrilling coaster that should garner rides in both the front and back rows for maximum enjoyment. Yeehaw y'all!

Park opened at 12pm. It was a heat wave type of day with temps in the high 90s. My kids went on a couple of rides but alot of rides we decided not to go on because the sun made the seats really hot. They should seriously consider putting up tents/shades for the rides. My favorite coasters were the New Texas Giant and Titan. I also went on Mr.Freeze, Pandemonium, Superman, and Tormenta. Tormenta is the newest roller coaster there now but I hated it. The ride was bumpy, not smooth at all and towards the end, when its trying to get back to the station it would stop and go, stop and go, stop and go so many times. If the ride itself didnt give you a headache, that part will. Even though it wasnt busy, wait times for certain coasters and rides were long because they only had 1 car running. Mr. Freeze had a long wait time. Superman had a long wait time even though the app said less than 15 minutes. I waited roughly 30 minutes before i actually got on the ride and that was only because i was a single rider and I asked them if I can cut all the way to the front, after I waited until I was close enough to the front to talk to a worker that was there. I probably cut like 3-5 cars worth of people, each car would take like 8-12 people at a time. There was a good amount of self soda/water refill stations located all over the park. Needs more shade though. My kids (2 and 4yo) enjoyed interacting with the fright fest scary actors. My 4yo was a bit scared at first but the actors were very nice to young kids and gave fist bumps so my kids got very comfortable with them. Even though I was planning on leaving aroubd 7pm, my son wanted to find the "scariest and biggest" monster in the park so we stayed later to walk around the scary atmosphere and we were lucky to find "Cookie and Sparky". The actors mostly concentrate towards the front of the park and Gotham area. My kids enjoyed their day and thats the most important although some things couldve been better. .

I always struggle reviewing businesses and separating the people working (who were great), from the…read morerides (which were sparse) and the location (which was abysmal since it could take over 2 hours to leave the parking lot). So with that said I'd like to level set what you should expect. The park is clean, reasonably priced, and has about 4 rides you'll write home about. The park is mainly limited by space since it's in the greater Dallas area. It was fun and you'll make memories. But it's best to take this park for what it is and not compare it to other parks. It's great for 4-7 hours.

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis

Holy interactivity, Batman!…read more Kudos to Six Flags for adding a tremendously cool ride themed to everyone's favorite DC comics characters. The premise is that 5/7ths of the Justice League have been captured by the villainous Joker and diabolical Lex Luthor who threaten to take control of Gotham Cit--er, Metropolis. You sit 3 across in 2 rows for a total of 6 passengers per ride vehicle, where everyone gets a different colored 'blaster' (e.g. purple, green, red, blue). Designed and manufactured by Sally Dark Rides, JL:BFM combines the theme park technology of a motion simulator on a track with the arcade fun of a light-gun shooter (think Time Crisis or House of the Dead). You're given the cheap-o 3D glasses before you board, which are needed to interact with the EIGHT digital 3D screens during the ride. Yep, that's 8 times you and five other 'recruits' are shooting at bad guys on interactive screens--some as big as 30ft wide--in an effort to rack up the most points. The gun accuracy is surprisingly good, but then again the ride's new, so I'm sure it'll fade over time. There's a nifty animated video that runs in the queue (featuring an especially deranged Joker.....is that you, Mark Hamill??) and a most excellent animatronic of Cyborg, the least-known/cared-about member of the Justice League. 'The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man' [IOA, Orlando] is still the motion simulator ride by which all others are judged, but this is a pretty damn good effort on Six Flags' part. ____________ i can haz mini rant? okay i haz rant now: So I created a page for JL:BFM a few days prior to riding it, but lo and behold some jerkface by the name of "Jack G" sneaks up and totally hijacks my first review. Not only that, but he has the gall to write a 1-star on how simply unbearable the wait is. Face the facts, Jack, amusement park rides usually involve you WAITING IN LINE. Also, brand-new rides, like this one here, will have even longer lines because it's hot and it's new and it draws way more guests. Technical difficulties notwithstanding (which CAN happen from time to time, there's a lot of moving parts involved, deal with it), once you're in line, you *don't* leave for any reason. You sent your son to refill the water bottle [thus exiting the line] and were surprised that park security told him he couldn't linejump to rejoin you? GOOD. That means they're doing their job. Obviously you don't read so well, because ".....linejumping or rejoining the ride line for any reason is strictly prohibited and will be enforced." Oh, and thanks for leaving such a nicely detailed description of the actual ride experience.....not. Idiot. 'this is stupid I have to wait in line for a ride, durrrr'. What did you expect, dude? 0% downtime on every ride in the park? C'mon. _____________ Raging aside, this is a spectacular ride that's fun for all ages and is a great way to stay cool on a hot Texas day (indoor = air conditioning). I HIGHLY recommend that park guests give Justice League: Battle For Whatever a go-round, even if the wait times are upwards of 1 hour. And don't despair Missourians, Six Flags St. Louis just installed a clone of this at your park! Happy shooting :)

From my understanding, this was the first tubular roller coaster in the park. There is a historical plaque right by the entrance that details the history of the roller coaster.

Went around 3pm on a Thursday and getting in to park was the easiest part of the day. We walked in and tried to scan our cards and the girl tells me one of my cards is just for parking and the other card is invalid. She continues to look at me until I finally asked "do I need to go to guest services?" And she mumbled a yes. Get to guest services and you can see plenty of people inside but only one window is being utilized. An employee finally comes to the window and I explain what happened in line, he goes above and beyond trying to help me get the situation resolved. He takes a picture of what he has just in case and thankfully he did as when I went back into line, the card on the app still didn't work. This girl looked confused but she called someone over to help her and we got it resolved. As I said, it's been a minute since we came although we are season card members however my 17 year old was ready to go, said he could have more fun at the local pool.
