    Station entrance and vertical spike

"They call me the FREEZE!" Talk about a cold reception. This launch coaster is one of the most bone-chilling rides at Six Flags Over Texas.....and you get to do it BACKWARDS! Originally running facing forwards, SFOT switched the trains in the 2012 season so that they now face backwards, hence the new name. Granted, in its original orientation, you wind up going backwards regardless since it's a 'shuttle' coaster...... You can have ridden this a hundred times, but that sudden burst of acceleration will still take you by surprise (and it pulls some impressive G-forces, too!) There are LIMs [linear induction motors] on the initial launch and another set of 'boosters' on the vertical section that propels the train toward the top of the 200ft+ spike. In 2002, decidedly uncomfortable over-the-shoulder-restrains were replaced with individual ratcheting lap bars for a much improved ride experience. A unique feature of this ride is the dual loading station that can load/unload one train of passengers while the other train runs its course. This helps to cut down on wait times which can get rather long (upwards of an hour on a slow day), due to the non-continuous nature of the coaster track. Continuous circuit rides (like 95% of other roller coasters) can run multi-train operations because of block brake sections, final pre-station brake run, lift hill, etc. This is not the case on Mr Freeze, since only one train can run at a given time. Ride crews are efficient and engaging. One operator was high-fiving us as we exited! Note also that this is a mirror image of the Mr Freeze located at Six Flags St Louis. ~Special ride elements~ *0-70mph in 3.8 seconds *Inside 'top hat' *218 foot tall 'spike' with LIM boosters It's intense and certainly not for the faint of heart. You might even say that in order to ride, you'd need to have ICE running through your veins......

Also most rides only had one cart going at a time, so even spending extra money on Fast Lanes was iffy because the waits were still long. The same employee was dropping her measuring stick every 2 minutes, handing off her employee phone and stick to a guest waiting to get on the ride to put on her jacket, leaning over the wooden part and telling everyone she was tired and just wanted to go home. Not the energy someone wants to encounter after waiting almost an hour for Fast Lanes. On the same ride, they made everyone move down 2 rows to let a family that wasn't waiting in line pick where they wanted to sit. We were bummed out because we did not want to be in the back and got moved to the back without warning. I do believe this letting families jump the line and pick where they sit is not okay especially for the people who paid extra for fast lanes. After getting bumped to the back row we were disappointed because we'd been in the back row for every ride we had been on and that was our final ride of the day. Also, if you plan to use the app to navigate your day, be cautious of the wait times. Each ride had a different wait time than what we saw in the app, and we ended up waiting even longer than what the app said.

The staff is hit or miss too. A lot of the time it looks like they don't want to be there, but then you'll run into some employees who are actually really nice and helpful. My biggest issue is the Flash Pass. I usually buy the 90% reduced wait time option and it's insanely expensive, but somehow I still end up waiting in long lines even with it, which defeats the whole point. That said, this place isn't all bad, and it's not a 1 star for a reason. The park feels more sanitary now and you can tell they're making improvements to try to make it better. One warning: do not get FanShield, they won't give you your money back. Also, I wouldn't recommend ordering tickets online, do it in person just in case.

Went around 3pm on a Thursday and getting in to park was the easiest part of the day. We walked in and tried to scan our cards and the girl tells me one of my cards is just for parking and the other card is invalid. She continues to look at me until I finally asked "do I need to go to guest services?" And she mumbled a yes. Get to guest services and you can see plenty of people inside but only one window is being utilized. An employee finally comes to the window and I explain what happened in line, he goes above and beyond trying to help me get the situation resolved. He takes a picture of what he has just in case and thankfully he did as when I went back into line, the card on the app still didn't work. This girl looked confused but she called someone over to help her and we got it resolved. I was surprised to find a chair but if I tell you the chairs are sitting on top of each other so be prepared to get to know your neighbor. So apparently we haven't come in a while as when I got into the lazy river I was looking for tubes only to find out you have to rent them! $15 for a single tube and you can't bring your own. Also not a fan of the you can only enter/exit at certain spots. Wave pool - yeah, no tubes allowed in there. You have grown folks using life vest to float on or grown folks with life vest on to float in the deepest end. Damn ... why such a low aggregate score for this place?…read more I'm reading a lot of these negative reviews and it seems like there are some common, reoccurring themes I'm noticing: 1. Ppl who purchased multiple races and having to wait upwards of 1.5+ hrs in between races (but being passed up if others tipped the operators??) 2. Mechanically broken karts 3. Bad flag waver / intentional slow down of karts 4. Bad customer service My brother, dad and I were in town for a weekend for a cowboys vs ravens game (dad is a diehard fan). On the monday, which was our last day in town, we had a chunk of time after lunch to do something before catching our flight. We decided to hit this place up as it was near our hotel. Maybe because it was a workday and we were the only customers (there was 1 other family there) but we didn't experience many of the negative things I listed above so our experience was VASTLY different than what other customers are reporting. It seemed like all karts were operational, there was no flag waver for our races and we did NOT have to wait at all in between races. I DO think they did turn up the kart speeds at the halfway lap mark and also dialed them back down near the end but I'm just going off of personal feel. We experienced very good customer service! The lady (manager I'm assuming) that helped us at the front desk was quite pleasant and the two gentlemen manning the track for the day were nice too. We did 3 races and I managed to place 1st in one of them (the dad from the other family was an absolute beast). I noticed that this K1 Speed is a lil different from the one back home in the racing format. Here it was personal time trial. Each person was trying to see who could have the fastest personal lap and at the end the best personal lap times were ranked. While this was an interesting format, I prefer the traditional placement format more, where your final rank is based on who finished the race first, physically. I'm wondering if this could be changed/adjusted if you spoke to the staff or if it's an unchangeable, default racing format? Anyways, had a lot of fun. It's definitely pricey as some have pointed out (because of the baked in membership fee), but I guess coming on a workday was a good idea as opposed to a weekend day? Fun, memorable activity before flying back to Toronto!

But when we signed up they said it would just be a slight wait... over an hour and a half later we finally got called up. If you have never been to a K1 course before you need to know it is all about speed... these carts can fly! But coming in first does not mean a thing... it is fastest lap and overall course speed. The corse is a wicked inside track with hair pin turns and thin lines.. it is an adrenaline rush! We got set and then seriously ate this course up! My son and I were bumping and scraping the whole way but in the end ... he beat me. Yep race one... he beat me. However in race two I crushed him. What a great time! We had a blast!! My sone is a heck of a racer... I loved getting beat by him... and liked breaking even. So much fun!
