Discovered RUMORS during the 2nd Toledo Dishcrawl (Monroe Street ed.) last Spring and absolutely fell in love with it. There were about 20 of us and took over a good portion of the seating area. "Platters for 2" were served all around with chicken, kafta, beef, falafel, tomatoes/cucumbers/onions, hummus and Tabouli salad. It was a feast! I was so incredibly happy. I felt like I walked into a fabulous Lebanese family dinner. Staff was so accomodating and friendly. They even gave us to-go boxes to take the food home. That's my kind of family dinner :). Came back this past weekend for a late dinner with my visiting mother from Chicago. We arrived around 915pm, kitchen closed at 930pm so we made sure to put our order in right away! Yes I felt bad but we were SO hungry and Amango closed an hour early. Ordered the "Platter for 2" because let's face it...it's more like a platter for 6. And for $23? I mean c'mon. It'd be a sin not to order that. Dinner was Sunday. I have been eating leftovers from then for lunch and dinner and finally ate the last helping last night (Wednesday). So yes, 5 MEALS WORTH OF LEFTOVERS from the Platter for 2. I hear their long islands are amazing. So I will definitley be back for that platter and some drinks :). Because every now and then? I, too, deserve to be treated like royalty. Oh! I should add that my FAVORITE part of my meal was the kafta and chicken. So well seasoned! Their falafels and choice of pita I feel like could be better. I'd rather have smaller falafels with better consistency (was a little dry and crumbly) and denser pita bread served warm and not in a zip lock. But that's just me! BEWARE: THE SALAD PORTIONS ARE HUMONGOUS Literally, I ordered a small fatoush salad and I could barely finish half of it. It was good with the pita chips, cucumbers, tomatoes, lemon & olive oil dressing. I also ordered two falafels from the apps menu they were tasty and covered in sauce. This place def seems like a local hang out. There were a bunch of people randomly coming in to the bar and other tables who all knew each other. It made the place seem kind of homey. I was on a road trip for 9 days and went here on a recommendation of a local friend. As a vegan, eating while on a road trip can be a torturous venture. I informed the waitress that I had a strict no dairy diet and she was very friendly and accommodating when I ordered. FRIGGIN HUGE PORTIONS. I ordered falafel, hummus and tabouli. Ok, I'm a 6'3 225lb dude who runs 20-30 miles a week. I can out eat most folks without trying. The amount of food she brought me was ridiculous. I could've fed my entire family with my food alone. I thought it was a bit pricey at first, but no no no. For the amount of food she brought, it was dirt cheap. PLAN ON GETTING A METRIC F$#KTON OF FOOD. My biggest regret was leaving all of my leftovers in my friend's refrigerator. This was the best meal I had on the entire trip. I'm a dummy. I will be back next time I am in Toledo. read more

The one thing I can say is that the portions are HUGE! I can't say that it's the best Lebanese food that I've had, but the prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food so you can share each dish. We went there and ordered the Rumors Platter for 2 and it could have easily fed 4-5 people! The meal included hummus, 4 grape leaves, falafel, chicken, steak, kafta and side salad. We got the tabouli as the side salad and it was bigger than most portions at other restaurants! My overall experience was good. Decent food, the service wasn't bad, portions were big and prices were reasonable. I'll probably stop by more often. I debated whether to give them 3 or 4 stars but settled on 4 since they were so generous with their portions. read more

The place is nice and Cozy. I liked the seating arrangement and the ambiance is great. The interior is very peaceful. We ordered a greek style lasagna with rice.Then we ate rice pudding. The food was just like the other Mediterranean places.The rice was hard to swallow. The lasagna was quite good.The tomato based sauce was very much of our liking. The first time my wife and I ate at Rumors everything was great. Today's meal not so good. I had the Rumor's Omelette; the mushrooms in it were like eating rubber bands. I had to take them out before I ate it, we'll half of it, I threw the remaining half out. $30.00 for breakfast for two, very much overpriced for what you get. So, I am a big fan of Mediterranean foods, but this place is blah. I have been working in Toledo on a project and called some friends from my hometown and they stated that they were at RUMORS. I was apprehensive, because the reviews were mediocre but since I haven't seen them in awhile I decided to patronize the place anyway. The service was poor, the waitress took over 15 minutes to give me my drink and then I ordered an a kafta plate and it was not bad, but it wasn't great (The sauce was bland and the fries were not crisp), the LIT was delish though. Then was trying to rush us out at 11:30, even though it is stated that the place closes at 12. She never followed up with us unless we signaled for her and then when making simple request as getting a side of baba ghanoush or hummus, it was stated that you needed to purchase a full order for $7.99, which I only needed some for my kafta. I like supporting local businesses, but this will be the first and last time I will go to RUMORS. read more

The portions are certainly huge but lacking salt and pepper. Great salads but the meats needed flavor. We ordered the lamb shank over rice and grilled chicken with hummus and fatoush. The excitement was there until the first bit then sadly I was forced to do what I rarely do add salt and pepper taste and adjust again. This would have been minimized of the shank was roasted an hour more to release its natural juices. If you order it, ask for a side of the pureed garlic sauce it improved the flavor dramatically. The atmosphere or decor is a mess of different styles. It was weird getting a Greek salad in a chili pepper shaped bowl and humus in a Molcajete. I am not sure where this Tex-Mex plastic bowl came from. Service today was the worse. We have eaten here before and never had this bad of service. We tipped two servers today. A server that wasn't in our section but was a great help and appreciated the tip I gave her. Our actual server blamed service on being busy with only 3 tables. Hmm. My first and only experience at Rumors: Most of all the empty tables were all dirty and no one was cleaning the tables. The table we ended up sitting at we asked the waitress to wipe down the table and she was annoyed we asked. Waitress was not a people person at all. Food was not good, there was mold on the toast, when pointed out, the waitress looked at it and took it. Brought back the new toast and left. No apology or anything. Didn't come and check on us. There was a group of people at the bar and one other table was taken. However, the service was poor. I've been here twice. The first time was about six weeks ago and I was warned before hand that it is hit or miss. That first time the food was very good. We have a bunch of vegetarians so we asked about everything. We had humus, veggies,french fries and lentil soup. Oh, and some wonderful chocolate cake for dessert. This place is special to me as it's the one place that I'd meet my sister (who died a year ago today) for breakfast each year when I'd come back home to Toledo. The staff is always congenial and efficient, the portions are more than ample and the food is delicious. I can only judge this on one item, the Eggs Benedict, which is my long standing favorite and I have been enjoying it at Rumors year after year. The price is a fraction of what I would pay in Austin, Texas, where I live and work now and nearly everything is overpriced. It seems all the good inexpensive "joints" are gone in Austin. Not so in Toledo. Rumors is a refreshing reminder of what a dining experience should be. Breakfast is half price before noon. What a great deal! read more

The good news is we found a restaurant open on New Years Day. The bad news is we ended up at Rumors. We ordered Bacon and Eggs and a chicken salad, coffee. They weren't that busy but it took over 10 minutes to get the coffee. Served in a pot it was lukewarm when we got it. Eggs were fine, the bacon was thick and it came with a generous mound of home fries. The Chicken Salad was huge. Generous portion of chicken but the bed of lettuce was barely edible. It was all Iceberg lettuce with some large chucks of the inedible portion of head lettuce. We had no silverware and had to ask 3 times but hey it's New Years Day. We were happy to find a place open. The other person in my party used a walker and traversed up 5 stairs to find a table. We noticed an elevator for just such an occasion. I asked the waitress if we could use the elevator leaving and she said of course. Nobody offered to help as the controls were confusing and not just a push button to go up and down. After fidgeting for 5 minutes we looked around and saw the owner or manager at the bar doing a nice job of avoiding our gaze. Although in a walker from a recent surgery, we were not entirely without ability to go down steps so we just walked it even though it was difficult. I had left a 25% tip before the elevator incident so I went back and gave 10% instead. Not sure if this was just a case of "I don't want to be open on New Years Day" or just crappy customer care. At any rate, I would rate the food a 3* as a pricey diner. The customer service ranks a 1*. Doubt we will return here. read more

I had not been to Rumors in over ten years. I remembered the food being good, but - at my age - the memory can be faulty. And, of course, the quality of a restaurant can certainly decline. Thankfully, Rumors still provides excellent food and service. I ordered Chicken & Hommous and a side of Spinach Pie. The portions were huge. I am a big eater and there was no way I could finish all this grub in one setting (Although, I did eat most of it!). Three of us went in there today about 130pm...the place was very busy. I would not say the prices are cheap but there was plenty of food delivered to our table. I ordered the greek trio...they were already out of mousaka which is one of the trio...so that was what a really wanted so I changed my order to the pistatio or however you spell it lol...since they were out of the one thing... they gave me the spinach pie also along with fatoosh...there was enough fatoosh there to serve 3 people and it also was very good...the spinach pie was very good too. I ate the pie and some of the fatoosh and had to take the rest of it home. They were totally undermanned with the customers that were there. Our waitress was ok...no problems with her. Good salads, gyros, chops. A lot of people seem to like Rumors for standing by the bar and having drinks. It's not my thing, but if you like that this might be your place. Wait staff is usually helpful and speedy. Expect a big plate of food. I like to have the T Bone steak or whatever moderately priced steak dish they have on the menu. I've been going to rumors since I was little and in those 20 years it's never disappointed. If you need a nice Mediterranean fixing this is the place to go to. Homemade hummus, friendly waiters, and my favorite Greek salad. There portions are worth the money and there long islands will have you tipsy at 12 am. There staff is friendly and very attentive and there food comes out quick. Make this a go to on your list. I haven't met the owner personally but I can tell that they really care about there restaurant because there constantly remodeling and keeping the place clean. read more
