Walking into the Beirut was like being transported to a unique world that was both regional and international. Inviting, yet unfamiliar. We walked by the bread oven and our eyes lit up. We walked by the bar and main dining room and felt like we'd discovered a lost gem from another time. Somehow well preserved and still sparkling. The food was absolutely outstanding. So real, fresh, simple and complex. One could taste everything in a dish, and yet there's still something you can't put your finger on. Our two young kids also loved it. They ate plenty and so did we. We were there for lunch, which is truly a treasure. To be in a windowless and low-lit dining room, during the middle of a hot summer day...honestly it was just as good as being in a movie theatre. While we won't be moving back to the midwest anytime soon, we are trying to figure out how to get ourselves to Toledo for a lunch date. This place is not to be missed. And the pricing, along with the service staff, make it the kind of place you'd want to eat lunch at a few times a week on the regular. Thank you, Beirut!

Have you ever been to a restaurant and your experience is so great, and the food is immaculate, and you KNOW that in your heart, that it doesn't matter what you order from the menu, you're GOING to leave satisfied? Well Souk is that type of restaurant. Definitely make a reservation. I did not, but I lucked up with a table in the bar area. Here's what I ordered: Calamari- One of my favorites out of the hundreds I've had. I typically don't care for the thicker semi-crispy calamari as much, but theirs was so fresh, I'm convinced if that type of calamari doesn't taste good somewhere else, it's probably due to the quality or method of cooking. Grape leaves- Enjoyed those and well-packed Braised Short Rib- Amazing. 10/10. Tender and flavorful. I loved the brussel sprouts. The celery root puree on the plate complimented it so well I thought it was mashed potatoes puree, lol. Like that's genius. Sumac Seared Ahi Tuna- I did not personally order this. It came with rice and a salad. Quite a bit of food--had the lunch portion and couldn't imagine eating the dinner sized one--though the quality was less impressive than the quantity. The hummus was quite bland--smooth, but needed more lemon and garlic. The shawarma didn't have much flavor either, and was quite dry.
