Rumfish Grill 8-24-24 The restaurant opens at 5pm so we made reservations the day before for the first seating at 5pm. We arrived about 4:25pm and went to the bar for a drink before dinner. Four things right up front to remember that we did not know but learned fast. First you must pay $10.00 to park to go into the restaurant or bar unless you are staying there. 2nd Parking, restaurant, and bar ONLY take credit cards but can take tips in cash. 3rd this restaurant is not for everyone as it has a very limited menu and it's pricey. 4th if you make reservations make sure you ask for a table at the aquarium as these tables go first. The restaurant opens at 5pm and the bar is open from 11am to 12am. The Bar only has a very small menu so if you want dinner you have to go to the restaurant where the 33,500-gallon aquarium is located. We got seated at 5pm and Audrey took our drink order and left menus for us to look over. When she came back, we asked her if we could move to a table as we asked for that when we first arrived. She had seated us at a 1/2 booth with cracked bench seat and 1/2 table. That was too uncomfortable for the wife. We moved to a table and proceeded to order our food. I ordered the Grilled Rib Eye medium well with Yukon Whipped Potato's. The wife ordered the Angus Filet Mignon medium well with Yukon Whipped Potato's. Our orders also came with a couple spears of asparagus on top of the potatoes. My dad ordered the kids Chicken Tenders, Fries, and a Salad as he could not find anything on the adult menu he liked. It took a while for our food to come out, so they brought us 3 rolls to hold us over. Once our food got delivered my Rib Eye looked perfect and tasted fantastic it was done just perfect. My potatoes were good, but they were warm not hot but not cold enough to send back. My wife's Filet Mignon was done perfectly and tasted fantastic, but her potatoes were just warm. The asparagus was cold and hard. My wife had to ask another server to fill her drink up as we have not seen Audrey in a while. She did stop by much later to see if we needed anything. I thought for an upscale restaurant with higher prices the service would be better and the food a lot hotter. The steaks were done perfectly and tasted great too bad they could not pull that off for the rest of the meal. By the way my dad's Chicken Tenders and Fries were very good, and everything was hot. With the large 33,500-gallon aquarium which was absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing to watch they really have a niche to draw people in. This place can really be hit or miss. I highly recommend sticking to the appetizer section of the menu because things are usually better there. I'm not sure if the management just changed or if the entrees were a little off that night, but I came here with my mom and we weren't in love with what we got. We ordered the blackened mahi mahi and gulf shrimp and a side of sauteed spinach. The rice wasn't cooked in our entree and I choked on the first two bites. The mahi mahi was extremely salty too. The sauteed spinach had bits of unknown things inside. I think there was a loose noodle in there? I wouldn't recommend ordering those two things. In the past, we enjoyed what we got, but this time around wasn't the best. Our waiter was fine, he was very shy. We did enjoy our view though. We sat in the dining room with the giant fish tank. Came here while we were staying at the RumFish resort. The dining area is pretty cool with the fish tank, however the food is pretty mediocre for what it costs. Very overpriced compared to other options nearby in the area that have much better food. Server was a little moody at times with us too. We were recommended to try this place by a local resident. My wife and I both had the Ahi Tuna- seared rare with an "everything" crust (like the bagel). It came out in less than 5 minutes- I guess because it doesn't take look to sear it. It was very tasty and satisfying! It had a pineapple salsa on top and a sweet ginger glaze on the plate that complimented the black rice bed and the tuna. We had the wasabi in the side. I only had a little since it seemed to overwhelm the other flavors of the dish. (I love wasabi on sushi btw ). A great dinner place and - oh yeah- a really cool huge fish tank to check out too. This place is a must eat at when you come to St. Pete! It looks so cool! It is a fancy place and the service is amazing! Our waiter was Patrick, he was very good and nice. One of the walls is an aquarium and they have other aquariums in the restaurant as well! The food was also so so so delicious! It is definitely pricey but worth it! I would recommend more bread with the ceviche and less wasabi on the crusted tuna, but other than that, it was amazing!! They also have a super cute shop that has a lot of merchandise! We just had Christmas Day lunch at Rumfish. Service, very good. The aquarium, also lovely to look at. My daughter's burger was very much enjoyed by her. I, on the other hand, was less than satisfied with my scallop selection. I figured scallops at a seafood restaurant would be safe and they were ok, but I think $40 for a small plate of 6 scallops and 5 asparagus spears in a meh sauce (no salad or bread brought to table at this price point) is not good value for $$. They also were fairly chewy, which probably means over-cooking. Oh well, lesson learned. Stick with the bar food. Edit: reading other reviews about being charged $10 for parking. We had the most wonderful dinner at RumFish Grille. It was my first time there but will not be my last. I understand the menu was just revamped and everything was delicious. We had a steak, the halibut, a shrimp cocktail, the mac n cheese and the key lime pie. Everything was sensational. Service was fantastic and the atmosphere with the fish tank was relaxing. AWFUL EXPERIENCE!! we are a family from out of town and were recommended this place by our VRBO owner. they should probably remove it from the list, as this place was nowhere near what was expected. we were greeted with a $10 fee just to park our car, felt unnecessary but whatever. Our appetizer was the fish dip and tasted fresh out of the can. we also had a heirloom arugula salad that had more salt than the ocean. the bread was delicious but we had to ask for it instead of being given it initially. the grouper was horribly dry and needed a glass of water to wash it down, but unfortunately our water was full of scary dirt (most likely from an unclean ice machine, photo below). the pompano was average, could've had more seasoning and the sides with it did not make sense. the chicken pasta (don't remember the name) tasted like a microwave ramen that somehow had no seasoning. the chicken was quite fatty and the meal just felt out of place. the blackened mahi was probably the best meal we had but was also the smallest portion. it was a busy night however the service was quite awful. the ambiance was weird as country music blared in the background and harsh overhead lighting made it feel more like a red robin and less like a high end restaurant. these complaints wouldn't be so harsh if the meal hadn't ended up being just shy of $300. it's great to have a nice restaurant but not if you'd rather hit mcdonald's afterwards. read more

WORST MEAL EVER! We went to Run Fish Grill because we are locals and had never been there to eat. Our waitress was very nice, but the food was abominable. We ordered the watermelon feta salad as an appetizer, the watermelon was sour, and the feta was watery. We nicely asked the waitress to take it back and off our bill. She was nice about it. I then ordered the whole snapper. As soon as I bit into the first piece it was terrible, smelled like old fish and was inedible. I sent that back as well. I am not in the habit of doing this but when I can't even eat the food I do ask nicely. My fiancé's meal, seafood pasta, was mediocre but edible. He then ordered a Bloody Mary, and it was so watery that he couldn't even drink it. We did not send it back. I ordered French fries and collard greens to replace my fish because I thought they were a safe bet. Nope!!! French Both the fries and greens had so much salt in them that I couldn't eat them. It was just a bad experience. I talked to a few friends who said they had had bad experiences there as well. Even with the fish and appetizer taken off our bill it was still $166 with tip. So that was for 2 glasses of white wine, a Bloody Mary that he did not drink, the seafood pasta and oysters, that were very good, French fries and collard greens. The restaurant is very attractively designed, especially the gigantic fish aquarium in the dining room. Our waitress was quite friendly and efficient. Service was 5 star. Patrick at the poolside bar was very helpful with regards to celiac. I wanted the loaded nachos, but he said the corn chips were fried in same frier. Our options for Gluten Free were pretty much any samdwich on a gluten free bun. He recommended the blackened grouper and cole slaw as a side. I have been to the rum fish since i was in Panama City Beach years back; first time in the St. Pete hotel and while expensive, it was quite excellent. I think the tank need be more visible to all as my wife only noticed when she took my daughter to the rest room. Cool difference is that you can buy a swim in the tank, but you must stay at snorkel level. Our focus was on the food though as we were just digging in. When you get steak, lobster, mushrooms, chicken, mixed drinks in front...all else falls away. Be prepared to pay...but that is what resorts and vacations can be. The service was so fast and smooth I didn't even realize as I was digging in. The food was fresh, no smudges on dishes, no sticky tables, clean floors and the noise level was fun but family was acceptable. read more

Surprisingly kid friendly and adequately upscale for a unique dining experience. I got a 5:30pm Sunday reservation, and the dining area was relatively full, including families with small kids. It's pretty easy at many tables even to have the stroller at the table. Our waiter, Julio, was great. He got the family ordering drill but maintained an upbeat and professional manner. The pasta and butter and curly fries were great for the kids. Drinks on the rocks were a bit too small, but they were different than many other restaurants at the resort. The table of bread was warm and perfect for the waiting family. The mahi mahi and shrimp as well as the calamari starter were on point and definitely worth checking out. And the fish tank! The service and atmosphere at RumFish Grill were truly excellent--friendly staff and a great environment to enjoy a meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to expectations. Much of it seemed previously frozen and lacked the fresh flavor you'd hope for, especially given the higher price point. With the cost, you would expect higher quality and fresher ingredients. I really wish more restaurants like this would support local seafood--it would make a huge difference in both taste and value. read more
