Attended some of the boxing classes and it's been great, especially for beginner to intermediate level. Machines and lifting don't get too busy. Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Poor Management, Cleanliness, and Customer Service…read more I visited UFC GYM Sunnyvale on a day pass with three friends, and unfortunately, the entire experience was a major disappointment. First, let me make something clear: I LOVE working out. I'm a huge fan of old-school bodybuilding gyms, powerlifting, mixed martial arts, and everything UFC represents. I even have a background in fighting myself! Although my current line of work limits how much I can train, my passion for fitness and combat sports hasn't gone anywhere. That's exactly why I was so excited to visit this gym. I had high expectations, especially with the UFC name attached to it. Unfortunately, those expectations were quickly shattered. Right from the beginning, the check-in process was unnecessarily frustrating. The front desk was dealing with computer and payment-terminal problems, resulting in delays that should have been avoidable. Once inside, things didn't improve. The gym had an unpleasant, musty odor, and some of the equipment appeared poorly maintained and insufficiently cleaned. Now, don't get me wrong. I actually LOVE gritty, old-school bodybuilding gyms. I'm not expecting a luxury fitness club with spotless marble floors. But there's a big difference between an authentic hardcore training environment and a facility that simply feels neglected. What bothered me most, however, was the attitude of the staff and management. The interactions I experienced felt rude and unprofessional. Equipment and technology problems can be fixed, and facilities can be cleaned, but poor customer service and dismissive management leave a lasting impression. To make matters worse, I've repeatedly requested that the gym stop sending me promotional emails about memberships and products. I've contacted the business directly regarding my concerns, yet the unwanted marketing emails have continued. At this point, it's become a nuisance. As someone who genuinely loves UFC, fighting, weightlifting, and the fitness community, I wanted to enjoy this gym. I walked in excited to train with my friends and left disappointed by the entire experience. I can overlook an occasional equipment issue. I can understand a computer malfunction. I can even tolerate a rough-around-the-edges gym environment. But rude management, poor customer service, inadequate cleanliness, and repeatedly ignored communication preferences? That's where I draw the line. The UFC name carries a certain level of expectation, and in my experience, this location fell well short of it. I hope ownership and upper management take these concerns seriously, because the concept has tremendous potential. Unfortunately, based on my visit and subsequent interactions, I cannot recommend this location.

I recently started coming to Ironwill and I have been really impressed with this place so far…read more Chris (owner) is a great guy and was very helpful to me as a CrossFit n00b to ensure I could get the right training and that I'm doing okay in each class. The way this works is that you start with a Fundamentals course (3 total classes) where you are taught the main lifts. This is all about getting used to the movements and understanding the right form. From there you are allowed to jump right into classes. The schedule is available online. No signups needed, you just show up. The workouts are challenging but doable. Love that the class is structured so you often work with a buddy which lets you get to know other people in the class. The class times are convenient for someone who is working the usual 9 - 5 schedule and there are classes available every day. The workout is posted on Facebook each day so you know what you're getting into before you arrive. Most importantly, the community that they have is really open and welcoming. I was nervous about trying out a CrossFit gym like this, but I'm really glad I did. Can't wait to continue with my fitness journey here!

This gym's owner has an inability to let go of 110% complete control of his gym and the movements…read morehis members' make with their bodies while coaching. Specifically, do not ever take a class with the owner (Peter) if you have an injury and require a substitution for a specific movement. For example, I have a severe knee injury. The only thing that relieves my knee pain is the circular motion of riding a bike combined with the analgesic relief that cardio from bike riding has been proven to provide. Meanwhile, one morning, Peter refused to let me ride the gym's erg bike as a substitute for one of the standard movements, which happened to be Jumping rope. After he continued to refuse to let me substitute bike riding for jumping rope, I said out loud to him, "Peter. This is my body. My choice." And yet he still refused to let me ride the erg bike. So I walked out. And I asked via email for my membership to end Sept 18. Then I had a discussion with other coaches who would let me use the bike whenever I felt like it. They convinced me to stay on as a member. But Peter refused to let me keep my membership unless I agreed to do whatever substitutions Peter deemed appropriate. Peter also gave a long lecture to his staff that week, insisting no coach should let me use the erg bike when I ask for it. And then on the morning of August 4, I realized Peter had canceled my membership early because the app was trying to charge me a "drop in" price just to sign up for that morning's classes. When I asked him to reinstate my membership, even if it was just until the date I had originally requested of Sept 18, he refused. He said I could only stay a member if I had a meeting with him and agreed to comply with whatever terms and conditions HE so chooses. He hides behind the guise of his "specific training program backed by science". But that's such a joke. And he knows he's a joke. He knows most of the members hate him. It's obvious by the low attendance for classes that he coaches. And he's taking out his issues on me simply because he can. It's so infuriating because it's so obvious to me he's suffering from severe control issues brought on by his behavioral and severe personality disorders. If he really wanted to give me a proper substitute and cared about my longevity he'd perhaps suggest I throw a d-ball up against the wall and catch it. Or something to that effect. But instead he gives me BS moves like calf raises, while refusing to let me ride the erg bike. Meanwhile the other trainers are courteous and respectful and gracious and allow me to make whatever substitutions I want. The only problem is a lot of the coaches quit working here because Peter's behavior drives them away. So there's always someone "in training". He also wastes members' time and staff's time with long lectures before or after classes. And he refuses to change his ways--often arguing with members. He's disrespectful when he insists that a coach knows a members' needs better than the members does. I've noticed he also tries to train his younger staff with this same methodology: "a coach knows better about a member's body than the members". For me, that breaks a moral boundary. There's another incident where a member did not want to box because of her elbow injury. But he insisted she box. Of course, she then reinjured her elbow. And that to me is sickening. The workouts themselves can be somewhat good. But nothing makes up for Peter's terrible management style and the nonsense policies he tries to enforce. In summary, this gym is a disaster. And the owner is a disgrace to this franchise. Edit in response to Peter's comment on my review: Peter's talking about himself in the third person because he was the trainer that day. Also, Peter, that's obviously just cut-and-paste lip service. You're obviously grasping at straws to protect your bottom line. You absolutely do NOT care about your members whatsoever. And you do NOT wish me well in my health journey. You make it obvious you only care about one things: having ultimate control of your franchise and its members. And if you can't control them, then you cancel their membership. If you actually cared, you would not have cancelled my membership before I asked for it to end. The fact that you effectively kicked me out of your club before I wanted to quit simply because I wanted to use the erg bike as a substitute for whatever movement I so chose just goes to show how severely warped your behavioral and personality issues really are.

Much love to the coaches Rissa and Alec. I have a bigger issue with their late policy. I understand if it's a full class and they've got to get people off of waitlist, but they are STRICT on their late policy and on their own clock. Don't look at your phone's clock - my friend wasn't allowed in despite the class being half full on a Sunday bc their timer showed 5 min 30 seconds. It was still 10:50 (class started at 10:45). My friend was 30 seconds late. Thankfully they were given their class back, but I really don't understand why we're paying so much money to be held to such strict standards when there isn't even a waitlist. Please try to be more empathetic and a little bit more lenient on the seconds and allow up to 59 seconds. 10:51? Fine. 10:50? Come on.

We have never had a personal trainer or lifted weights with any type of discipline, so it was a daunting and intimidating process to find something we knew we needed but didn't know what exactly we were looking for. But during the first consultation Alesha completely put us at ease, and with the options of using FSA/HSA funds and discounts on bulk group class packages that my husband and I could use between us, it was a no-brainer trial run to sign-up for. 9-months later we're still at it, very grateful to have some structure, accountability, and to see real progress in our overall health. We're also appreciative that with kids and a busy work life, when we "slip" Alesha positively supports us in not focusing on our failures, but how even the small things we do during those "slips" can move us in the right direction. We also have had the opportunity to see other trainers as they work with others, and they also showcase the same dedication, support and positivity. We highly recommend A-Team Fitness - it has been truly transformative for us!
