If you've ever gotten hurt at a gym and just wanted them to do the right thing, you'll understand this.
I signed up for a membership at this MADabolic location on May 26. At my very first paid session, I followed every single instruction and modification the coaches gave me -- I didn't push past what they told me to do. Despite that, I re-aggravated a pre-existing back injury, and numbness started radiating into my legs that still hasn't gone away.
On June 8, I reached out to the studio, explained exactly what happened, and asked for a refund. I have never signed a membership contract. I wasn't trying to get out of anything I'd committed to -- I was asking a business to take responsibility for an injury that happened during a session they ran. I was told flatly they couldn't refund me. The only two options offered were an indefinite freeze with no return date, or a standard 30-day cancellation that still bills me for one more cycle. On June 9, I was told my case had been escalated to the owner. As of today, more than a week later, I've heard nothing back -- no call, no email, no update.
I'm not exaggerating any of this, and I'm not asking you to take my word for it over theirs -- it's all documented in writing, with dates, and I'm happy to show it. The coaches themselves were perfectly nice. This isn't about them. It's about a business that takes your money with no contract on file, and then goes silent the moment an injury during their own session becomes inconvenient for them. If you've got any kind of injury history, ask very specifically about their refund policy, get the answer in writing, and don't assume they'll follow through if something goes wrong.
EDIT: Peter the owner reached out and he was extremely helpful and showed some accountability and reason. I appreciate the conversation with him so much so I am changing my review to 4 stars. read more
