Matcha iced tea

In short Small place, hugely ambitious kitchen turning out big flavors in a low-key, welcoming environment. In long Some places get 5 stars because they don't make mistakes and they're better than 80% of the competition in their area. Some places get 5 stars because they do something amazing that totally dazzles you. Rum certainly qualifies on the first point, but it's really getting 5 stars for dazzling us. There has been more and more good Thai all around here for the last 30 years--by now, it's just expected that most people have a favorite Thai spot or love the one that's in their neighborhood. For us, we love so many different Thai dishes that be now, we must have tried at least 20 just in Snohomish County. This is now the clear favorite. This part of downtown Everett is all angle-in parking, and can get busy. We were super lucky to score a spot across the street, given the multiple concerts and summer festivals in town last night. Getting outta the truck, I thought I heard huge boisterous crowds laughing it up in Rum. Turns out we had the place to ourselves! People were having drinks in the pub right next door. Rum doesn't have any kind of bar at all. In this case "Rum" means "delicious," which is a northern-Thai sense of that word. The more universal meaning of the word evidently applies to the traditional Thai dance with all the ornate hand gestures (they have many decorative figures of these dancers in the window, so they embrace both connotations). Service is mild-mannered but warm and friendly. Prices are insanely good--we got out with 2 apps, 2 entrées, and soup for $79. Having no bar does keep your tab down. Fresh rolls All veg, rolled so tightly you could probably pound nails with them. Huge portions--so generous. The peanut sauce is the usual peanut sauce, but augmenting it with the spice caddy here can really light you up. The dried peppers, sambal, and fish oil all really torched my face. Grilled pork Better than grilled pork most places, but a couple bites were a little dry, so this dish comes in 5th place for last night. And I'd still get it again. Sticky sweet dipping sauce, so damn good. Phad thai Chicken. Sticky noodles with lots of bright tamarind flavors clinging to them. Nice big soft fluffy fried egg over the top. Nobody's idea of an adventuous dish; this is like ordering a burger around here, but the textures are flavors here made it interesting. I'm thinking they've put Northern touches on this dish but I don't pretend to be an expert, I just love food. Northern larb Pork. Tons of fresh veg around it. Served hot--this is definitely a Norther style touch, which our waiter was pleased to explain to us. It's also spicy, which he also called out as northern-Thai style. It's fantastic. Bite after bite of plain pork with different condiments kept me going through a couple servings before I started messing with the veg. Tom yum goong I didn't ask if they'll go off-menu above 5 stars of spiciness, but our waiter seemed tickled to serve us our entrées and soup at 5 stars. As usual, soup broth hits you hardest. No sweetness, no funk, no tang, just beautiful creaminess and seasonings, plus heat and nice fresh shellfish. Full-size head-on shrimp! Such a treat. The people are so nice, the prices are like nothing we see around here anymore, and the food is created with such care and love. This is our #1 Thai spot now.

Spring roles and coconut shrimp.

These were just the appetizers one of the many times I've stopped in. The street style foods offered in a traditional manner are flavorful and fresh. The atmosphere is clean and quiet with the owners boys lighting up the energy in the back. It truly feels like a home cooked meal from good people. The cuisine is to die for. Authentic tie - my favorite by far - the curry! But everything we have tried as a family is delicious! I can't get enough of this place. Excellent service, food, many menu options, great detail of product on menu and clean! Highly recommend.

They could stop serving Thai food. That would be a major improvement. I am sure that if they were to do so then their food would improve.

Excellent food. Stopped in before a show at the Village. Sorry no pics- we were hungry!…read more I got a pork belly and broccoli dish and my companion got knee mao. The food just wasn't what it should've been or what it was the last time I was there a year ago. We ordered pad Thai and drunken noodles and the almost always delicious mango and sticky rice. The noodles in the pad Thai were very rubbery and very difficult to cut with a fork. And equally difficult to chew because they were so rubbery, the flavor of the dish was pleasant, although it was a little tangy/tart. The mango and sticky rice was the big disappointment because it's a $12 dessert. The mango was rockhard and very very sour. The mango was too hard to cut with a fork, in fact we didn't even eat it. We left most of it on the plate and just nibbled at the rice w sauce. Our server was very pleasant and sweet, but he did not speak much English and I didn't feel like I could communicate my disappointment on the mango and sticky rice, at least to him, and have him understand what I was saying so I didn't say anything. This visit probably was just a fluke, (but an expensive one, when the tip and tax were calculated) it was quite a disappointment given how good our prior visit was.

I saw really good reviews in Google and it was about 4.2 stars.. lots of parking available. The interiors were looking good... lots of tables to sit and eat.. ambience was good.. service was ok. Slightly pricey than regular Thai restaurant but was ok.. We ordered a vegetarian thai basil, fried rice.. it was spicyyyyyyyyyyyy .. we were actually seeing red chilies flakes on the rice and it was extremely spicy. Thought of calling them and returning it, but it was too late... we picked it just before they closed.. we also ordered a tofu drunken noodle.. noodle was good, but the tofu was really dry... it was ok ok. They had some humongous pieces of tofu which we couldn't eat.... Thai ice tea was good... or on an average experience.. 3/5

When we arrived, we were seated and I asked our server for a high chair for our toddler. Instead of bringing one, he told me to get it myself. I've never had that happen at a restaurant before. The high chairs were behind a heater, so it was awkward to reach and I had to manage it myself. We also didn't receive menus for several minutes. We ordered summer fresh rolls with tofu, egg fried rice, and chow mein with tofu (3 star spice). Food was served by a different gentleman who was very nice and brought plates, etc. The chow mein had no spice at all. We waited for our server to check in so we could request spicy sauce, but he never came back to our table. Our table was in the middle of the room, and we watched him check on other tables but not ours. Eventually my husband had to go to the counter to get chili oil. At one point my fork fell on the floor and again, no one came by so I could get another. When we left, there was no thank you or goodbye. In the past, the staff has always been Asian and has been consistently attentive and welcoming. This time our server was the only non-Asian staff member we've seen here and seemed unfamiliar with the restaurant's usual level of service. Unfortunately, we felt overlooked the entire time, which was the opposite of our past experiences. The food is still good, but the service today was unpleasant enough that we won't be returning. It's a bummer because we used to really enjoy coming here.

Through a small door opening is probably a small kitchen where one can hear the wok sizzling. At lunch when we went, is a young friendly Thai lady alone taking orders and manning the cashier and to go orders. Maybe in the back is one guy responsible for the cooking. But what comes out of the rook is really good and tasty. We had Pad See Ew with Beef. This is my standard test to know if the Thai restaurant is good. This one surely passes the test. The beef slices were tender. Portion size was fair and smoke. The sauce clinging to the noodles is perfect. It had a good amount of charred broccoli and carrots. The Pad Thai with Chicken Satay is impressive, as well. Perfectly balanced flavors of sweetness, sourness and aromatic. The satay was generous. There's a slight misstep with the peanut sauce, I think. It seemed thickened with cornstarch as opposed to just a reduction. If the other items on the menu were of these quality, I would certainly love to try them. So the restaurant may not be pretty, but what we've tasted is good, really good. We'll be back.

I started with fresh rolls, which is always how I judge a place. They were really good and the peanut sauce was just right. In fact, the peanut sauce was so good that I ordered the swimming rama :) it was phenomenal and a great texture. Our waitress had a good knowledge of gluten free options and was able to help me order something I could have. She was helpful and only really came to the table when needed. They had tons of traditional Thai options, but also some fun specials that I can't wait to try next time I go. A really great variety- plus some amazing lunch specials that I want to come back to try. The takeout box started dissolving a few hours later, so would recommend transferring into containers as soon as you get home. The noodles did last well to be reheated the next day for leftovers, which is always a good sign. Flavorful, delicious, knowledgeable severs, and a reasonable price! Definitely worth trying if you are in the area.

We started with the pumpkin tempura. It was crispy on the outside, with a naturally sweet pumpkin inside. It was really delicious. It came with a dipping sauce, though the portion felt quite small. The side of lettuce and a chunk of purple cabbage felt a bit odd presentation wise, but once we wrapped everything together and dipped it, it tasted great. For my main, I ordered the vegan herb tofu salad with medium spice. It was mostly fried tofu tossed in a herb dressing with mint, tamarind, and cilantro. The flavor was a mix of sweet, spicy, and tangy. It honestly reminded me a bit of pani puri. That said, the sweetness was a bit overpowering and made the dish slightly sticky. If they toned that down, it would be perfect. We also tried the vegan 17th curry fried rice, which was good. The curry flavor was subtle. My toddler absolutely loved it. Overall, I would recommend this place, especially for vegans. The food was good, with the only downside being that some dishes leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. The service was okay, not exceptional, but not bad either. I had visited this place about three years ago on a busy Friday night and had a pretty poor service experience, so I wanted to give it another shot on a weekday. The food has improved, and the service was decent this time around.
