Finding a fair, stress-free place to celebrate an intimate birthday in Miami is no easy feat -- no surprise fees, no parking nightmare, no cake charges. Rum Room checked every box, and I have my friend (and the wonderful John and Adam) to thank for it. I had a 5:30pm reservation and my friends arrived before me. They were welcomed into a classy, living room-like space with comfy chairs and a center table -- exactly the laid-back-yet-chic ambiance I was looking for. They had drinks and ordered a few bites, after all, it was happy hour! When I arrived, we moved to a six-seat table that was perfect for face-to-face conversation. We could have sat outside to watch the Miami sunset, but opted for a cozier indoor spot instead. I ordered my favorite drink, a Manhattan, and John was kind enough to suggest two versions, classic and one made with rum instead of whiskey. The rum version was a surprise hit that everyone had to try. I'm still loyal to the traditional recipe, but it was a fun twist, especially on my birthday! The food was outstanding. Their ceviche had a mysterious sauce that sparked a whole conversation, the truffle fries were perfectly made, and the fish dip nachos served with plantain chips were my personal favorite. They kept our cake refrigerated and helped my friend set up the candles when it was time to sing, such a thoughtful touch. Service was attentive throughout. Water glasses constantly refilled and empty plates promptly cleaned. They also validated our parking, making it just $2/hour at the convention center right across the street. Since the World Cup is happening in Miami, we snap a photo with one of the balls placed in front of the restaurant honoring Algeria. A perfect ending to a perfect night. What a little gem! I had no idea that this old building had been restored and turned into a restaurant until we walked past it the other day. The interior is beautiful - dark, clubby and luxurious! Cute little restaurant we found to go to on our way to a concert at the Fillmore. Part  of Miami Spice and had a great prix fixe menu to choose from for $45 that included app, entree, dessert. The service was excellent. They had a great craft cocktail menu and tasty original drinks... Our food all tasted great and everything was seasoned perfectly... The only complaint I had, which is a pretty big deal to me if I'm eating a steak, was the temperature of my steak...I'm surprised it wasn't for the chef, tbh... I requested my steak to be medium rare and received it well done.. I did advise the waitress and received an apology and just ate it. A very bad experience overall with food and service that resulted in receiving a 50% discount on our bill, but it was still about $200 and they automatically included a 20% tip, which was not optional. seven of us came with a reservation, and were agreed by Talia, who seemed to be in a huge hurry and already annoyed at something else that was going on in the restaurant. Our appetizers never came and we waited about an hour for our food. sandwich was dry, the truffle fries had no truffle on them, and the service was frantic and not very helpful. After we had finished our meal, I asked them to cancel our appetizer order, at which point they promptly brought out regular french fries instead of truffle fries again. Then I asked to speak to the manager, and they said that our waitress was the manager, clearly not true They offered us a free round of drinks but we left. All seven of us agreed that the other 8 reviews must have been written by friends of the staff. read more

Such a hidden gem! My favorite cocktail during my weekend in Miami Beach was from Rum Room, but I can't remember what it was called as the mixologist told us it was new to the menu. It was made with Mezcal and had a smoked Tajin rim. The fish dip nachos were delicious and great to share as was the Caribbean Caesar salad. Had a wonderful dinner experience at Rum Room on a rainy Saturday night. We were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant by the bar staff and the General Manager Mitch. They made sure that we were comfortably seated and told us a little bit about the restaurant before we were then attended by our server. In case you are not aware, the Chef behind the Rum Room is Chef Samantha Cruz, who recently won the Food Network cooking competition show, "Beachside Brawl". Fresh off her win, where she represented the 305 to the fullest, Chef Cruz has put together a delicious menu that highlights all of her influences growing up in Miami. From the fish dip nachos to the fish done in a paella style with couscous, Chef Cruz hits it out of the park with her carefully crafted dishes. Our server told us that her menu was years in the making, and you can really tell that she put a lot of thought into the menu. Some other standout items were the croquetas, the pan con bistec and the chimichurri steak. And, of course, not to be left out, the menu also consists of mouth watering desserts, including the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and the espresso tres leches, that are just as tasty as they look. All the dishes are designed to be perfectly paired with the rum based cocktails that are curated by a team of mixologists that nailed all of the drinks that they prepared for us, including a Caipirinha, a Rum Room Negroni, and The Old Cuban, which is a refreshing rum drink that is made with Prosecco. And to make the evening extra special, Chef Cruz took time out her busy evening to meet me and my wife and take photos with us. She was very welcoming and made us feel like we had known her for years. Chef Cruz, Mitch, and The Rum Room staff, thank you for making our Saturday night special. I loved their chimichurri skirt steak and the shrimp and papaya salad but it was the pineapple upside down cake that made my day. I've never had a pineapple upside down cake as fantastic as this one. Rum Room is a hidden gem in SoBe. Don't let the MB Convention Center location scare you away. The vintage building is beautiful, the service exceptional, drinks are delicious and food is A+. I loved every part of the experience and they had the best selection of rums vs every other local bar. Honestly the cocktails and ham croquettes are better than Cafe La Trova in Calle Ocho and to me that's the best Cuban food in Miami. It's nice to not have to leave Miami Beach for good Latin food. We had our first experience at RUM ROOM last evening and WOW!!! Housed in a historical Miami Beach site, the space is warm, intimate, and yet possesses a funky vibe. Live guitar music augmented the ambience. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and shared their love of the menu. Mitch Doren, the GM, greeted us enthusiastically. A Latin/Caribbean inspired menu is carefully crafted and creatively inspired. Samantha Cruz, the executive chef, took time from the kitchen to chat. Her extraordinary culinary background shines at Rum Room. We started with GARBONGO - a chickpea stew with chorizo and sautéed kale, topped with a golden warm bread with herbs and sea salt. The flavors are a perfect blend and the dish is comforting. We followed that with CONCH FRITTERS prepared perfectly with Keys conch and corn batter, and served a crispy golden brown alongside creole mayo. We finished with PAN CON BISTEC - a pressed sandwich of chimichurri steak, provolone, malanga strips, and candied onions. This sandwich is exotic in composition and exquisitely savory to the palate. We have a pineapple upside-down rum cake waiting in the fridge for a later time. RUM ROOM deserves your visit. We certainly will return soon. CHEERS! read more
