I've passed this place many times so I finally stopped in for an hour to work and have a matcha. It's really cool because the place used to be a bank. Who knew that old banks make cozy coffee houses. The barista was upbeat and sweet. My iced matcha came out very quickly and my muffin was ready right away. Both were pretty tasty and did what I needed them to do. I love that Yelp functions as a bit of an online diary for me. I visited Rue de la Course yesterday for the first time in years and today I looked up my old review which is from 13 years ago. I'm thankful for the review update feature because although in Rue's case not much has changed (still has that gorgeous soaring space in an old bank, still has phenomenal coffee drinks), I saw that back then they were staunchly cash-only. Now you can use cards. And while that's probably old news by now, I feel like writing an update because I have so much nostalgia for this coffee shop. I used to visit their former locations in the Quarter and on Magazine decades ago. I still treasure my old Rue mug, too! I appreciate their variety of non dairy milks and yes, they have oat. My small iced double oat latte was delicious from first sip to last (their espresso is nutty rather than bright, which I prefer). Plenty of seats inside, but it was a nice day, so we sat outside with its views of bustling Oak St. and lush, tree-lined Carrollton Ave. The perfect afternoon in NOLA can be had here. read more

This was a little coffee shop near my Airbnb. I wanted a quick breakfast and came by here. I liked the interior design of this place and wanted to check it out. There were several people sitting down and working on their laptops. They played classical music which was relaxing. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and iced coffee. The sandwich was good. They did not have any ketchup or any other types of sauces available so that was disappointing. The coffee was served in a foam cup. Not that big of a deal but I didn't expect it. They don't have any prices on their menu. Who does that? It's insane to think that people don't take cost into account when making a decision. Then you have to ask the price of everything and they're obviously annoyed at having to answer, it makes the whole process take longer, which makes the wait longer for everyone. You get 2 stars simply due to the fact that it's in an old bank. That to me, is all you have. I see that calling out how rude and unfriendly the baristas are is not an uncommon review here on Yelp. 2 seconds about me for frame of reference- I run a small coffee farm from Guatemala and typically enjoy Cortados. I am in no way a coffee snob and the only drink I have found remotely good at this establishment is their frozen coffee because it was recommended to me once. The first time I got it, it was great. Not too sweet and with actual espresso. The second time I went a few months later they said they couldn't made them (blender down maybe?). I respond with "awww bummer!!" Male barista responds in a very condescending manner "ohh yeah real bummer" and rolls his eyes. So I got a pastry instead and left. Yesterday was my third and last time I'll be in. I sent my wife in to grab us two of them as there was no parking but she didn't know exactly what they were called. She asked the (this time female) barista and she responds in once again a condescending manner "umm I don't really know, I don't drink those things" She makes them, fills half the cup up with frozen coffee and the other with whip cream (never asked for that). I get in the car, annoyed wife and half a drink once I removed the whip. Side note- this place uses styrofoam diner cups for practically all of the coffees you order (cold or hot). If this isn't a blaring "I should not buy coffee from this place" sign, I don't know what is. read more

This is a very straight forward coffee house with a pretty awesome location near the riverbend on Carrollton. It's in a historic, old bank building that's got to be over 100 years old. Gargoyles and all - I kid you not. They serve a solid cup of java, and on occasion I've seen people enjoying theirs with their fur babies in tow. I'm attaching a photo of what I think is a fantastic idea. Table shims!!! They're located on a sideboard where you'll also find sweeteners, cream, stirrers, etc. and I'm still blown away that they exist! Every restaurant known to man should have a stack of these available. My only issue with this spot is the parking situation. Only street parking and the nearest spots are "pay to park" now. I don't want to pay to park just to get a cup of coffee. It's not an issue if you live/work nearby because this is a wonderful area to walk and enjoy the beauty of your neighborhood. Just my 2 cents. read more

Great coffee! The coffee is strong and bold, and a great way to wake up. I always get a cappuccino or caffe latte. Both are excellent! Their bagels are also delicious as well. I particularly love the Marigny. That tomato cream cheese is absolutely divine. The sprouts are always crisp! Note: I took off a star because I'm a die hard about my coffeeshops and parking around here is a major pain in the butt! Plus, I gotta say it's on the pricey side. With that being said, oh Rue de la Course. We go wayyyy back. I remember fondly when Rue was where The Rum house currently resides. It was huge, tables had banker's lamps and my girlfriends and I would study late in the evening. She was at Tulane and I would be home from LSU. Good times! Man, I feel old recounting this! Then they moved across the street to where Ignatius currently is. I liked that location as well but it started getting smaller. And now we are down to the location on Oak street. Granted, the huge vaulted ceiling makes it look massive. I haven't been upstairs but looking at the pictures the view is pretty awesome. Rue reminds me of old New Orleans where we don't tear down buildings. We have a healthy respect of our history and what it means. It's comforting to be in an old building that has so much history behind it. Down to the nitty gritty, the chai is delicious and their hot chocolate is yummy too. The coffee: The cortado tasted pretty burnt. This went away after I let my coffee sit a while so I guess there's that. I think I may just have had a bad experience because the person taking care of my order seemed really new. I wouldn't write home about the coffee, but it wasn't bad. The shop: This is probably the saving grace for me. I really like the space. It seems like an excellent place to study. There are two floors and tall ceilings, making it seem very large. It reminds me of a library. I haven't been to many shops that have this atmosphere, so I would give it bonus points for that. Overall: Reasonable coffee and a great space makes this place worth coming to, especially if you want a nice spot to get some work done. read more

They have transformed this space into rue de la course a cafe with great coffee, food and music selection. Both guys behind the counter were both very friendly and helpful. If you stop by and happen to enjoy Dark Roast you have to try Mexican Chipas. It was highly recommended and did not disappoint. I also had the egg sandwich on a toasted everything bagel. Very tasty, I do love provolone. I finished my stay with a sweet potato pecan muffin. Out of this world delish. Price was very fair. Starbucks should watch out. A real fav in Carrollton: a wonderful adaptive reuse of a historic bank building for starters. Great baked goods of all sorts--bagels, scones, etc, and a wide range of breakfast sandwiches if that's your thing. I go for the scones--everything is several levels up from the major chains found everywhere. As is the coffee--always new selections, smart creative baristas. Pay more elsewhere if you wish but consistent quality here is difficult to beat. read more
