I had Rudy Cools replace my AC systems on my house. Aside from feeling a sense of trustworthiness from them, I also had other comps so I know they were fair. When they came and did the work they were extremely careful in the house and my kids thought their guys were fantastic. Since having them install, Mark has come out to perform our service maintenance and he's been fantastic. He's very knowledgeable and reliable. Just like some of the other reviews imply, this company is more concerned with their bottom line than making sure customers are helped and satisfied with their services. While most companies offer a warranty with their work (especially after getiing a whole new HVAC system installed), this company does not stand by their work. First time I have ever encountered a "licensed" company that could not answer questions about the duct work and the problem that was happening after they installed the new system. Worst of all, they will tell you they can come back out and look at the issue via the phone (even though it has not been a year since installation) but will only tell you after arriving there will be a service charge. TLDR: Please go somewhere else, if HVAC is your main problem dealing with Rudy Cools will become another bigger problem - for years to come - and could also affect your health. Looking for legal routes now. Background: Rudy Cools installed my HVAC system in July/August 2023. My main issue was that my previous system was not keeping up with temperature when the hot outside reached above 92 F. I contacted them and asked if it was the system, the duct system, insulation issues or my windows, and they said a new system would fix the problem. I accepted and they sold me a new system. When installing they found mold within the system, so they recommended an air purification system to go along with the HVAC. Having a baby in the way I accepted no doubt to what I asked "if thats on the system, could that be in the ducts as well?" to which they replied "we checked when installing and no issues were found, plus the purification system will prevent that" so I trusted that response. The next weeks the AC upstairs (Damper system) was not functioning and temperatures were reaching as high as 90F inside the second floor. I reached out, they sent a technician to tell me it would be an additional $1.5K to fix. I call them very angry as they never mentioned that and this should have been resolved when installed. They agree and send a crew the next week to fix without a cost. I liked that. It was September/Oct already so heat went down and AC didnt need to work so hard so no issues there. In summer of 2024 the HVAC system could not keep up with temperatures over 92 F - which was my main issue to start with. I called them several times, they sent 3-4 different technicians that tried filing up the gas in the system, switching stuff, or just simply telling me "it was too hot outside and that wsa the issue". After dealing with that all summer I was fed with that and call them angry again, to what they told me "we will send the best technician we have" and they did. This super technician came and told me the duct system was not set up properly, and needed to be updated, with a price tag of $1.5K. I called them angry again since that was my question to begin with when quoting them for a system, and have been ghosted ever since. Its been 3 months now. On a separate story, my family and I have been having health issues without explanation. We did some mold testing here and there with negatives coming up, only to look into one of the ducts directly connected to the system and finding a goooood ole black mold colony hiding in there - even when having a air purification system, and having the installing team they saw nothing when installing. So not only they have costed me 1.5 summers with the same issue I originally had, $13-14k in costs, Health issues for me, my wife and my baby, but they also are now ghosting me and refusing to answer my emails or calls. This for me is as evil as it gets, and should not be even considered within your options for any type of services. As an update to my review yesterday, I will say my situation was an unfortunate one. Within a matter of under an hour of writing my review, I received a call from Rudy Cools. I also received a message from the owner here. They take full ownership of the glitch in their phone system and acknowledge my calls. One word: Honest We are out of town property owners. Another company told us a fairy tale and said we needed a new $4000 system. I was in the Navy. I understand motors, compressors, and cooling systems. There was no plausible explanation. No one at the other guys could explain how the observed symptoms justified the proposed system replacement. Called and had Emil show up within a few hours. He diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes and had the unit working within the hour. The run capacitor had failed and Emil replaced it. Total cost was $336.77. I am a first time home owner so not sure if this is a standard cost for this type of repair but my pregnant wife was very happy to have the condo cooled off by the time she was home from work. Emil walked me through some other concerns he had about our 20 year old unit including some coils that could use a cleaning and told me about their twice a year maintenance program. My husband and I bought our home Aug 2015, and we purchased a service plan for our heating and cooling unit. The reason why I am writing this review goes above and beyond what anyone would expect from a company-let alone from the owner of the company! We were due for the spring/summer check on the AC unit, and was puzzled why I did not get a reminder. I assumed it was because I misunderstood, so I called to schedule the service. I ended up leaving a voicemail, which was returned within 30 mins-BY THE OWNER. He apologized to me, explaining they experienced some technical difficulties on their end that caused customers like me to be over looked. Because of this, the owner offered to give us another full year of the service for free! I was BLOWN AWAY to say the least! As for the technician that came to the house-he was top notch! He did a very thorough job, and explained a slight issue he discovered, and did not pressure us to get it fixed right then-very appreciated! Down sides: They texted the tech was on the way earlier than the scheduled time frame, and when I replied asking for an ETA (because I wasn't prepared for him to be early), I received no reply. So I had to scramble to be ready for an early arrival. He also rolled up to my house blasting profane rap music, which was a bit unprofessional. I decided we should get a professional to come check our airflow issues on our second floor and tuneup our furnace. We were pretty confused by our duct system and weren't sure about what went where. So glad I called Rudy Cools! Our technician was Charles and he was right on time and very professional. As he performed the tuneup, he discovered our heat pump wasn't working. After some discussion, Charles figured our new thermostat wasn't compatible and recommended we test the original one that came with the house. Thanks to Charles, we discovered that we purchased the wrong thermostat for our system. He also showed us how the airflow worked and explained how to regulate the temperatures for each floor. David came out on schedule and did a thorough job, identified the problem (switch had burned out, presumably too many Charlotte power outages/surges). Our AC evaporator coil went kaput and our outside condenser was freezing up. Rudy Cools responded to my request for a quote here on Yelp and came to the house the next day. The tech who made the first visit stayed for more than an hour, taking measurements and writing out 3 very specific quotes for different scenarios. The timeline was initial contact- Wednesday. First visit- Thursday. Installation of a new AC condenser and evaporator coil- the following Monday. They were even early on Monday morning for the install. The work was quick, efficient and clean. Our AC went out this summer which is unacceptable for my Yankee blood. I searched a number of HVAC companies here and chose Rudy because they are a local business and I am so glad I did. They arrived on a Friday and when it was found that the unit would need to be replaced they informed me they would need to come the next week. But instead of a typical "I'm sorry sir" leaving us to sit in the heat over the weekend, the repair man went and got a window unit for us to borrow. I doubt a big business would go above and beyond to make sure their customers were not only happy with the service they offered but comfortable when they couldn't provide the service immediately. Rudy Cools Rocks! It all started back in June 2015 when we had the week long spell of 100 degree heat here in Charlotte. We came home from the Hospital and found that the A/C was kaput and so began the OMG! now what ? I came to Yelp, found several good referrals including Rudy Cools and I called them all and set up appointments for them to come out, diagnose my problem. Rudy was the only outfit that could find the time to come out that first day. So after they told me that I basically needed a whole new system including a new furnace I realized I was in for another few days of interviewing folks for the Job. My system had lasted 20 years which is unheard of but now there was no waiting any longer, it had to be replaced. Over the next 3 days we interviewed 6 other companies, took bids and then narrowed it down to 3. Then I went back and forth via email and the phone for another 2 days getting all of my questions, concerns answered. I had to learn a lot myself to know what questions to ask and I learned a Ton from a site called HVAC.COM which is run by professionals in this Field. They cut thru all the hype and BS to tell you what to look for for your given situation. Once I had this valuable info I went back to my Top 3 firms and really pushed on the type of units they were selling, the different warranties, the absolute Best pricing of course but more importantly how were they going to take car of me when there are problems 5 years from now? Overall, Rudy Cools came out on Top across the board on all of my criteria. In one word I can say it came down to "Ownership". I spoke directly with the owner Michael numerous times and the guy answered all of my questions. NO BS, just straight talk. He never questioned me when I called, no pressure and he came down on price. But the Biggest selling point other than his honesty was Customer Service. He took care of me and my family while we waited several days until his crew could come out on an extra day to do our install. He got us cooled down at no charge and that was HUGE! You have to remember, it was HOT every day and we still had to go on with our lives, go to work and sleep at night for 9 days without any A/C and Rudy Cools took care of us. Excellent service from Charles from Rudy Cools. My heater wasn't working on my Rheem gas pack unit and the burner was not burning properly. Charles diagnosed then disassembled the unit and cleaned the heat exchanger. Heat is working well now. I was charged a very reasonable price, and most importantly, wasn't told I would need costly repairs. I used this company because several people on the neighborhood website recommended them as honest, reasonably priced, and professional. You be the judge. I had an A/C outage. Called Flavia and her story seems pretty standard "booked out for....(weeks)" But David was dispatched the next day and showed up. He replaced a capacitor (price range for the part I discovered was --retail-- about $25) and the charge was $55 for the trip and diagnostic, $180 for replacing the capacitor. Total charge was $250 and change including tax. To replace a $25 part. Like I said, you be the judge. . I'm writing this review because a) I'm a woman, and we have to be careful b) I was overcharged and kind of stunned by it when I checked out the price of the part..and that was RETAIL, not wholesale, which is about $11. So labor, all told, for 1 hour or less was about $220. He also recommended I get the coils cleaned...and I had had that done less than a year ago. I declined that. Interestingly, this was a rental property, and I had asked Flavia to bill me and thought that was what was going to happen, but David was NOT having that. He was quite pushy about getting his money right THEN. I was going to send then a business check but that wasn't good enough. Our heat stopped working, on the coldest night ever! Called for an appointment, they were able to come out the next morning. Service provider arrived on time, was very friendly and professional. He changed the battery in the thermostat, and the filter in the vent, then went under the house to restart the system. Then, we had heat! He also took extra precaution to test for carbon monoxide because we have a small child. I was only charged the $89 service charge I agreed on, to send someone out. The technician said he "didn't do anything" so he wasn't charging me more than that. However he did do something- when he arrived we had no heat and when he left our thermostat was rising. Michael Argento and his team are fantastic. I own a townhome and operate a business in a rented space... and unfortunately I've experienced HVAC problems at both! I've tried Morris Jenkins, Miller Heating & Air, my landlord's "handy guy"... and NO ONE compares to Rudy Cools. Now that I've found this company, I'll never call anyone else. Here are some of the reasons Rudy Cools gets 5 stars: 1. Michael and his team are all punctual and friendly. You get a specific appointment time, not a 4 hour window like so many other places offer. While they are working, they will chat with you about their kids, gardens, dogs, etc :) 2. The staff is neat, clean and professional - they wear uniforms and don't arrive covered in mud and grime (other companies have done this and tracked dirt and grease all over my home). 3. They are knowledgeable and helpful. They will take you outside and show you what is wrong (how it currently looks vs. how it should look). They spend time explaining the issue and the options to you and let you decide on the best course of action. I've never felt "pushed" to do something and I understand why I'm spending my money on. 4. The prices are completely fair, and the company offers financing too! 5. They can service both residential and commercial units - this was not the case with other companies I had tried in the past.
