The guy seemed competent when he first came. He appeared to have fixed the problem the other technician couldn't fix. I thought wonderful! Now we don't have to shell out almost $3k for a new compressor (what the other tech had told us).
Things seemed to have been working fine until the evening when the upstairs unit stopped working again. My husband contacted him and he came back and tinkered around for a couple hours and claimed the issue was the breaker. We were charged $99 for that visit.
We thought all was well but hours later it stopped working again. He came back again a day or two later and about 3 hours later, finally determined that it was indeed the compressor that needed replacing. He said that he would need to contact the manufacturer to see if the compressor was covered under warranty and then let us know. We were charged $250 for that visit.
So it has been about 6 days and we have not heard back. My husband texted a few times and no response...ghosted like a disastrous blind date set up by your parents. My husband texts the guy for the last time saying we're going with someone else. And lo and behold! Literally 5 minutes later he texts back, 'Understandable.'
Gee, thanks for wasting a week of our time and $500 for absolutely nothing. Thanks for letting my kid who has epilepsy, sleep in sweltering heat while we stress about whether or not it's going to trigger a seizure. We now have to set up camp on the first floor since the unit is thankfully working there--our one saving grace.
TLDR; we shelled out $500 only to be ghosted and no resolution to the issue that has turned our second floor into a sauna. In essence, we basically threw $500 in the trash.
Update to reply: Yes I understand that we have a bad compressor. We paid $500 for you to figure that out AND to fix the issue which you said you did. Initially, you said that the compressor wasn't the issue. It wasn't until 2 visits later you realized that it was indeed a bad compressor that was the issue.
And let me clarify, we moved into this house late April 3 months ago. So no, we didn't 'neglect' the issue for so long. Home inspection confirmed that the units were in working order prior to us moving in. The previous owners replaced the filters in March. The house was unoccupied for a good month and a half after they were replaced. We looked at the filters that you had removed and even ran our fingers on them. They were CLEAN so don't be trying to school me on what I did wrong.
AND like a true unprofessional businessman, you ghosted us for 6 days. And here you are defensive because I'm writing an honest review of what happened. If you couldn't fix the issue then just own up to it and tell us you couldn't fix it instead of avoiding the issue. We've been without air conditioning for over a week in what's supposed to be a hotter than typical summer here.
Oh and regarding the extra service. Yes you did clean the coils on both units and you charged us $400 which I paid for ON TOP of the $500. So we paid $900 in total. $500 of which was a total waste read more
