Ruby Sunshine Homewood - Fine as Man . Eating at a great restaurant for breakfast and brunch - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

The food was very good! I had the catfish and grits. It was well seasoned and plenty. My husband enjoyed the Bananas Foster French toast. The lavender mimosa was also delicious! read more

Food was magnificent! Everything was fresh and made to order. The service was remarkable! Tre was our server and he was hands on! The only issue was that the ac had gone out on this day. Hopefully, they can get that taken care of, soon. Overall, we were satisfied! read more

This place was lights out! Didn't realize until we were there that it's part of the Ruby Slipper in New Orleans. Reserved a spot in line and were seated immediately upon arrival. Tyler took care of us and he was great. Also had excellent recommendations. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Ruby Sunshine Homewood - Eggs Cochon Benedict and Chicken St. Charles Benedict combo! Eggcellent!! (Sorry, had to) - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

The flavors were flavoring!!! Parking was easy, there is some beside and in front of the restaurant. Went for brunch around 10am on Sunday. We were seated quickly because we checked in online before we arrived. It wasn't packed though. Our server was friendly and attentive. The interior has rustic flooring and seating with vibrant decorations, really cute. Now on to the food!! We started with the loaded tots with bacon, a must have! The gravy is amazing. We also got the vanilla spiced latte. It was sweet, but not overly so. They were able to make mine with oatmilk which I appreciated. My friend ordered the florentine omelet, which came with a biscuit. Their biscuits are excellent, and come with delicious cinnamon honey (I think) butter! I got the chicken St. Charles Benedict with scrambled eggs and we shared the king cake stuffed French toast. Everything was delicious and cooked well. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. A little bit salty, but some of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. French toast was very sweet as should be expected with sugar coated on the outside lol. I tend to go in with lower expectations for chain restaurants, but this one really impressed me! I would 100% go back. I hope they open one in the Atlanta area soon! read more

Good bites but a bit more of a chain atmosphere. Nice that it's easy to walk to if staying downtown. Service was good just in general might find better bites or vibe. read more

Let's dig in: Loaded tots starter $8.00 Breakfast tacos with chicken sausage $14.25 Add cheese grits with goat cheese and cheddar $1.00 Breakfast tacos with link sausage $14.25 Add herbed creme fraiche $1.00 Florentine Omelet with breakfast taters $13.25 2 x Coke Zero $7.00 Total with tip: $ 78.22 The breakfast tacos: three grilled, flour tortillas with eggs, pico de gallo, pepper Jack, chipotle sour cream, and avocado. My husband added chicken sausage, and I added regular sausage. I also am not a fan of chipotle, so I had them leave that off, and both ordered pico on the side. The pico was fresh and pico-y, but needed some salt and time to marinate. My husband enjoyed his tacos as is, and I added some herbed creme fraiche and hot sauce... VERY TASTY. The breakfast potatoes are not where it's at... they are potatoes- no frills, seemingly no salt... but get some tots instead! Tots are, decidedly, also breakfast potatoes and are crownchy and delicious! Cheese grits: stone-ground, great texture, needs seasoning, which can be overcome by the s and p shakers. Omelet: more of a frittata than an omelet... the ingredients are cooked into the egg and folded over, so it changes the texture of the omelet, making it softer. It was good, packed with spinach, goat cheese, and mushrooms. Loaded tots: Guys...... these are crunchy tots with Tasso cream sauce, apple-wood smoked pork debris, and finely diced chives. YES, YES, and one more time for the people in the back..... YEEEEEEESSSSS! This was delicious and hearty, and I would drive all the way across town for this again!!!! NOM! Coke Zero: $3.50 is a little pricey for soda, but as someone who drinks like they will never drink again, I got my three fiddy worth, just sayin'. All in all, this was a great experience, and I will be returning! Our server was Breonna was fabulous and never let my drink fall empty. She had a great personality and a beautiful smile- GO VISIT! read more

Tyler C was the BEST. We felt so taken care of and loved that he acknowledged our dog. The food was great and had an amazing experience.

I've always loved stopping by this place with their take on cajun/country food. It's is really really tasty. They're always quite busy especially on Sunday mornings. The atmosphere is quite casual but nice. read more

If you're on the hunt for a tasty breakfast/brunch; Ruby sunshine should definitely be your next pick. A few of my menu favorites are the delicious beignets, fried green tomatoes, and the sweet heat chicken and French toast bites. The beignets are light and fluffy; a perfect breakfast/brunch dessert. The fried green tomatoes are a good appetizer option. The sweet heat chicken and French toast bites are a great entree choice. I loved the fried chicken mixed with sweet and spice, plus the French toast bites adding a little something extra. The service was friendly, fast and efficient. The atmosphere was family friendly. It's slowly become a family favorite. We love trying different menu items. If you're looking for a good brunch spot I'd recommend Ruby sunshine.  The location is convenient for most Birmingham. Having good food, friendly service and convenient location can all be hard to come by. read more

Cute decor, great food and delicious coffee! I had the sweet heat chicken & French toast bites, my daughter had the shrimp & grits. Everything was delicious. It's always great to find a place with good food AND good coffee. We will be back! read more

I go here a lot after my night shift. The restaurant is very cozy and has outdoor eating areas for the warmer months. The hostess is very welcoming and always greets us in a timely fashion. The food is always served hot and the portions are fairly large for the price. I usually get the shrimp and grits with an orange juice. I enjoy eating here, even when it is busy, and love sitting outside. The outside area has fans so even when it is really hot, it is still comfortable. It is shaded and there are seats that are in the sun. Even when sitting outside the staff does not forget about you. Paying is made easy, you can pay at your table with your phone or let the server take your money, which is always done in a timly manner. The staff is amazing and it is one of my favorite breakfast places in Birmingham. read more

Busy was not their fault. But disorganized and dismissive could have been controlled. One great person at the front desk got this up to a 2. Otherwise a 1. After waiting to sit. Then waiting for a bar person to take a to go order. We gave up. Ordered online. When the order finally came up, the waitress who picked it up dumped syrup over everything inside and outside the bag. What a mess. Ruined the morning and experience. read more

Frankly, it was just okay. Their hollandaise is not traditional and it wasn't better than traditional. I really just wasn't that impressed with the food I had which was the bayou shrimp bennie. It came with a tomato based creole sauce. I asked for a side of hollandaise and it was kind of pink. Not traditional. The bennie was cooked nicely. Its flavor just missed the mark for ne. read more

I love coming to Ruby Sunshine! Food is always delicious and service is always great!

Stopped in for brunch and enjoyed fluffy pancakes and a perfectly cooked omelet. Coffee could have been stronger, but the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. A nice little spot for a relaxing weekend morning. read more

The food, atmosphere and service is wonderful! Seating is inside or out. Best grits I've ever had, so creamy and delicious! The location is central to Shelby County and Jefferson County. read more

I wasn't to fond of the cappuccino, but those were by far the best Stone-Ground Grits I've ever had. The service, though, truly made the experience. This location checked all the boxes. The young entrepreneur running the show was fantastic--apologies for forgetting his name, but this place wouldn't be the same without him. read more

We were recommended Ruby Sunshine while we were in town and unfortunately we were unhappy with the food. Service was fine and we liked the atmosphere but my daughter's French toast bites were hard as a rock and the biscuit sandwich was also extremely hard. It was incredibly busy so we ate what we could and left. read more

Immediate confession: my favorite brunch spot is Ruby Slipper in the central business district of New Orleans, so I already have a particular point of reference. Ruby Sunshine is the Alabama cousin of Ruby Slipper. They serve various forms of fried green tomatoes, poached eggs/eggs Benedict, fried chicken, bloody marys, mimosas. I had a special, a beer braised beef Benedict. The beef was moist and pretty good, but a little salty. They were heavy on the hollandaise and it was cold and a little congealed. Overall an ok dish. Mimosas were as expected. I didn't have the Bloody Mary, but the New Orleans version is fabulous. My server, Tyler (Ty) was super attentive and helpful, so he helps bolster the review. Another table was unhappy with one of their dishes and I heard him arrange a comp for them, so that was nice. I didn't think that was necessary on my part. They just need to work on their hollandaise sauce. read more

After visiting the sister locations in Nola and Mobile I had to give this location a visit. I made a reservation through there website and am so glad I did. Upon arrival, the place was packed so I checked in with the hostess and we were seated within 5 minutes. The waitstaff all seem to be very friendly and you could tell they help each other out by watching around the restaurant. We got the candied bacon as our starter and while delicious it was a little too sweet for me. I got the crawfish cake appetizer as my main and it was amazing and very filling. We will definitely revisit in the future but I highly recommend making a reservation! read more

This place is fantastic. We got here around 10:15-10:30 on a Sunday and were seated immediately. There is indoor and outdoor seating and though it's a little noisy, the overall atmosphere is bright and welcoming. Our server, Alia, was wonderful, very attentive and friendly throughout the whole meal. We had the beignets and the pig candy bacon bites to start. The beignets were lovely....light and sweet (I definitely felt like I was back in New Orleans). The pig candy was not as good...too much sugar on the bacon so we wouldn't order this again. I got the Pick Two Eggs Benedict and got the Chicken St. Charles and the Eggs Cochon. The Chicken St. Charles was good with crispy, juicy chicken and a nice light gravy. The Eggs Cochon was the standout. The pork was fall-apart tender and the hollandaise was smoky goodness. I wanted a plain biscuit just to sip up all the rest of the hollandaise. I left full and happy. I highly recommend this place. read more

Stopped in to check out this spot, food was fresh and good! Mimosas weren't the best, I left 2, it was 1pm and they closed at 2, so definitely come prior to closing. I was greeted as soon as I came in, everyone was nice, the place was super cute. IDK how they bake their biscuits but they are fluffy and delicious, grab some of their homemade butter as well and you won't be disappointed! read more

Good the food and the service . I would recommend them for breakfast or brunch. The mimosa was good

The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is very cool. I love the variety of the menu and the cocktails are tasty. Everyone there is friendly and ready to serve you. Our wait wasn't too bad considering the size of our party. Love this place. read more

Five stars for service, 3 for food. Unfortunately both poached eggs were overcooked, and I waited forever for my food. They brought me a fresh egg but still... I would definitely get the Crawfish Benedict again, flavor was fantastic! It's a big place, plenty of booths and outside seating, fun atmosphere. And gotta love their story, Katrina New Orleans transplants. Love supporting local. My server bartender was full of personality and attentive. She's been there over 2 years. Management was kind to listen to me and bring fresh food. read more

The food is always consistently good here. Great brunch option here in Birmingham. The Spanish omelet and pancakes are always go-tos.

Waiter Trey was great. I enjoyed my Sweet Heat Fried Chicken. My daughter enjoyed her Cobb salad with avocado. However, Lexy did not care for her Shrimp Boogaloo Benedict. The bathrooms were clean. I enjoy the Decour and Vibes. Mock-tails were delicious. read more

This been one of my place to come eat at for a while and I ended up treating my boyfriend to a nice lunch. We used the Yelp waitlist to get our place in line, but wasn't necessary since the place wasn't busy. We started out with drinks and appetizers which my Bloody Mary was ok, but seemed like it didn't have much alcohol in it. My boyfriend Boozy Iced Coffee wasn't filled up to the top, but he enjoyed it. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was tasty, but wish it was more than just 3 on the plate. I ordered the BBQ Shrimp & Grits and the flavors were good and plenty of food for me to take home. Our waitress was nice, but forgot to bring the items we asked for, but wasn't a deal breaker. read more
