This brand new breakfast place is definitely popular for a reason! Really great location in Homewood for a Sunday brunch. It does get crowded, so I recommend going earlier or getting on the Yelp waitlist. It took us longer than it originally said. We ordered vanilla spice lattes, cinnamon swirl pancakes, and the southern breakfast. Everything was delicious and the waitress was really nice about substitutions. The pancakes were very sweet. Really good, but I was glad to be sharing the breakfast platter to get a break from the sweet. The southern breakfast was very basic but hit the spot for a classic breakfast. I would love to try one of the eggs benedict next time! Our waitress really nice even when we realized we didn't have my card! They don't take Apple Pay but we were able to go grab a card. The food came out pretty fast and you pay on a handheld device that calculates tip for you which is nice. My one star off came from our wait, which according to the waitlist was supposed to be 35-45 minutes. It was actually about an hour. I also think the food is a little overpriced for traditional breakfast options. The latte was $5 and because I asked for no whipped cream, the mug wasn't full. Decided to try Ruby Sunshine on a Sunday Evening. We arrived around noon. There was an hour wait just a few parties ahead of us. You can wait either at the bar or on either side of the outdoor patio. I ordered to morning margarita to start it was very good. Great way to start the morning off ! I also ordered a peach Bellini which was good as well. For my entree i ordered the bacon Praline pancakes which were a good choice! The classic buttermilk pancakes was fluffy ! It is filled with applewood-smoked bacon and toasted pecans, topped with warm brown sugar & butter caramel sauce can you say yum! My girlfriend ordered the hot smoked salmon and the shrimp boogaloo Benedict and her dish was flavorful as well. My favorite of the two was the hot smoked salmon. She so orders the boozy coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker but she enjoyed her drink as well. We will def be back to ruby sunshine. Great staff and service all around. read more

gave this place the benefit of the doubt on a lot of things, considering that it is still a new location that is incredibly busy. as a former waitress, I know how difficult it is to start a new job in a new environment that is constantly packed! the 45 minute wait for a table for 3 around lunch on a Saturday was expected, and not uncommon for brunch places in the area that time of day. you can browse the local antique store while you wait for the text to let you know your table is ready! the wait was exact, which we were glad about. however, it was downhill from there. our waitress seemed incredibly overwhelmed (not her fault, we saw how many tables she was managing!) and did not have time to check up on us in the beginning. we waited a little longer than we wanted to order, but didn't get our food until about 1:30 pm.... TWO HOURS after we put our names down. again, I was understanding, their kitchen has a lot to keep up with. the food looked amazing, smelled great.... and was room temperature. at that point we were so starving I didn't care, and I will say the food tastes great (with the exception of what their version of corned beef hash is....). but waiting two hours and paying over $30 for lukewarm food is ridiculous. paid $2 to add strawberries to my French toast, got what looked like 2 overripe strawberries quartered. On a less busy day, absolutely something I would have asked to be taken off the check. I meant to grab the managers card on the way out to reach out, and will be doing so soon. in the end I felt like I had wasted my money, as my experience and not getting a hot meal was absolutely not worth what I paid. I still tipped the waitress. I hope her day was a little less stressful. read more

Ummmm let's see where do I start with Ruby's... Parking at the restaurant is somewhat of a hassle, if you can not find parking in their lot. The place is well decorated & has great atmosphere. The food was okay in my opinion, however in Ruby's defense I should've ordered something different. I had the French toast that looked like it came from BK. My date on the other hand a omelette & it was delicious (i snuck a few bites in)! We also tried their mimosas. They were pretty pricey considering they didn't have a deal. read more

The food was amazing. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. The price was good too. My only issue which was frustrating was the hostess and parking. We had a party of six. Based on past experiences, we checked in and waited to be notified that our table was ready. Having two elderly people in our party, we waited in our vehicle so they had air conditioning. When we were notified, I dropped the family at the door then had to drive three blocks away to park. The hostess refused to sit my family of five including two elderly people on their 80's. Until I ran three blocks to "be present". I asked the hostess if they had 5 person tables, she stated no. 2, 4, 6, and 8..... so she would have sat my family at 6 person table. She stated that was the policy and she had no choice. I will definitely go back but I will not bring family because it placed unnecessary stress on my elderly family read more

Only improvement for you is to get the Yelp waitlist running. The other is to the city of Homewood. Allow Mimosa sales before 12 on Sunday. Everybody around us was mad about this. Because I've been to (and LOVE) Ruby Slipper in New Orleans, I was anticipating Ruby Sunshine to be an extension of that excellence. Well, the service was anyway. The food however, needs some work. Brought my mom here for Saturday brunch & was told the wait was an hour. Luckily it was just the two of us so we snagged a seat at the bar after about a 15 minute wait. During that time, we ordered a drink from our super nice server/bartender Nick (hey Nick!), I got the Morning Margarita (made with Blood Orange juice instead of sweet & sour, tasted like tequila & oj but it was good, i had 2!) and my mom went with the mimosa. After reviewing the massive menu, I went with the Croque Madame - a HUGE sandwich, stuffed with ham & cheese & supposed to be coated in French toast batter, then topped with an egg. Way too much bread for me & no taste but the ham had great flavor. The potatoes were also unimpressive. My mom had the fried green tomatoes (Super bland, don't waste your time) & the shrimp and grits which were also missing some of that Nawlins flavor/spice. The biscuit with honey butter was decent, but I couldn't help feeling disappointed as I left because I really expected more from the food. I'll be back to drink with Nick but hopefully they get some help in the kitchen from their Louisiana sister restaurant. read more

Ive been to the Ruby Sunshune in New Orleans and it was quite good not saying that this one was not I just did not enjoy my food like I thought I would. I got the shrimp and grits and my family ordered the breakfast with the eggs grits choice of meat and toast or biscuit. Im not going to lie for the price I would have expected a better outcome. My shrimp and grits had to much seasoning in it. I couldn't put my finger on it but it was very over powering. And the breakfast dishes didn't have any seasoning everything on their plate was very bland besides the honey butter it was tasteless. Sorry I usually don't like leaving reviews like this and this is just my opinion. But I'm being honest. I did not enjoy my visit at all. The server was very sweet. He was nice but after we got our food we did not see him until it was time for the check. I will give this resturant one more chance cause everyone every now and again has an off day, but my experience this go round was not it. read more

So...what I thought was going to be an issue the manager turned into a positive and I am so grateful. I was calling to place a to go order but was forced to use the website. The corn beef hash I wanted was not an option. When I got to the restaurant it was in the menu. I was disappointed but the manager (sorry I didn't get her name) let me get a side of corn beef hash AND they let us eat on the closed patio because I was nervous about eating inside (darn COVID). Everything was great (homemade corn beef hash is AMAZING!) and I truly appreciate the flexibility. We came in from Georgia and really appreciate the southern "Alabama" hospitality. Parking can be cramped but not impossible. Great place and service. We checked in using the app on Yelp and this helped. We opted to wait on a table since we were out ranked by kids to adults. Our server was fantastic and joked with us along the way. It was so nice to have a server understand the delicate balance between kids and girl friendships. I am being generous when I say the food was served at room temperature and flavorless, which takes some effort to achieve when you are serving New Orleans style food. The wait was almost an hour longer than the time quoted. They need more staff to turn tables. There was times multiple tables were empty for over 20 minutes. I timed it to pass the hours waiting. When we were sat it took close to 10 minutes before we were waited on. Once a server acknowledged our existence she was friendly and prompt. It was a very disappointed experience since we have been to multiple locations in other cities and loved it. We will not be returning to this location to eat. read more

I came in on a weekday because I was told that weekends are always met with long waits. We ordered our drinks and an order of fried green tomatoes for our starter, which were by far some of the best I've had. Then, for our entrées, we decided to split a Souther BLT and the Sweet Heat Chicken and French Toast Bites, which was a suggestion from our waitress. The food came fast and it was just as good as it looked! After eating, we were greeted by the manager. She was notified that it was our first time in and she came over to chat with us.
