We were so glad there was a Ruby Slipper right by our Airbnb in Mid-City. Came here on a Saturday morning before 10:00am, and there was a wait but it was not bad. I loved the pretty signage on the inside of the restaurant, clear to read and cute. I got the Peace Maker, which was mixing and matching two types of eggs benedicts for my meal ($15). It was nice to be able to choose two flavors. I got the shrimp one and the salmon one. Shrimp was a 3.5/5 but the salmon one was 5/5 for sure. The dill hollandaise sauce was the best hollandaise sauce I've had in a while. The breakfast potatoes I got as a side (did not come with) were just okay. I've had a lot better. It's a solid 4.5/5 here for food but I'll give it a full 5 because of the aesthetically pleasing walls and friendly staff. read more

This location of the Ruby Slipper Cafe is smaller and not as pretty as the one on Burgundy. Parking was a little difficult as well, but it's a great locally family owned business that serves up a great brunch so supporting them is important to me. When I visited this location I ordered Egg Blackstone...a pair of poached eggs over bacon and a grilled tomato on top of an open faced biscuit covered in hollandaise sauce. It's served with a side of fresh fruit as well. It was pretty good, but I found the biscuit to be a little over cooked. Like I mentioned earlier, this location is small so it's hard to have a private conversation here. The tables are practically on top of each other. This was on a weekday too so I could imagine weekends are even more crowded. The server seemed rushed and service was somewhat impersonal. The dining area was also a bit cramped. If you intend on having a private conversation, good luck. Since I was craving it, I ordered shrimp and grits. I was very disappointed with their version. The shrimp were properly cooked, but lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. The grits actually seemed to have more flavor than the shrimp. Would I return to Ruby Slipper? What a great hangover brunch place! My friends and I were visiting from out of town and this place came highly recommended! We were immediately greeted and taken to a table. There are plenty of choices on the menu and it was hard to decide what to try. I wasn't in the mood for eggs and breakfast so I got a Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fries. The sandwich was to die for. Full of flavor and the mustard hit the spot. The fries were alright but I wish I would have ordered something else. They were very average. They were not very hot but were thin. I tried a Fried Green Tomato and instantly wished I would have ordered a whole plate. They were very good. Along with my food, I ordered an Award-Winning Bloody Mary. I made the mistake of showing her the menu at Mandina's (at the end of the block) and we missed having our name being called. Oh well, I guess the wait wasn't as long as I thought for two people. She ordered the corn beef hash Benedict and omg I was envious! Even though we tried each other's food hers was delicious! I ordered the bananas foster pan perdu which was good but really sweet! I was bummed that they ran out of their special on pancakes but oh well! Next time I'm getting pancakes, and the corn beef hash, and I hear the shrimp and grits are good! Only a few blocks away from my house definitely makes this a spot i frequent when i'm in the mood for some good ol' breakfast and i'm up at a decent hour to do so (being that they close at 2pm) I definitely try the specials because they are always on point, but days when i'm not feeling to adventurous, i just stick with my usual, the bbq shrimp and grits (comes with a biscuit) really good, nice hefty serving. I always leave pot-bellied on that. I ordered the Peacemaker which was a mix and match of Chicken St Charles and Eggs Cochon--BOTH WERE GREAT! We've been here at least a half-dozen times since they opened and we've never had to wait for a table, in fact today was the first time that we even had to sit in the upper area of the dining room. I love what they have done with the space. (It used to be a SEEDY corner store.) I love that Mid-City has breakfast options. I love that we walked in at 10:30 on a Tuesday and could still get breakfast. I may have gone for the fourth star if my biscuit had arrived before the rest of my breakfast was gone. "A warm fluffy pillow of yumminess" is how my partner described it. I happen to love the multi-grain bread that they use, both as toast and in the egg sandwich. Other favorites of ours: -Three Little Pigs Omelet (ham, bacon, sausage) -Egg Sandwich (I like fried egg, bacon & swiss) -Pancakes (my partner loves it when they do the strawberry pancakes!) Not a big fan of the breakfast potatoes, I'd recommend the grits. And I got a side of the corn-beef-hash last time and wouldn't order that again. TL;DR: Order the White Chocolate Banana Pudding pancakes (even if it costs you your flight) Being one of the signature New Orleans brunch spots, we decided to make a visit to this impromptu location. The front of the building looks like it's closed for construction but if you walk towards the side you'll quickly notice a modern restaurant entrance. The inside was not at all what I expected as it was very nice and busy with hungry locals and travelers alike. I would definitely recommend joining the waitlist through the yelp app as it's very well managed and will give you an accurate wait time. (We learned the hard way) Our server was very sweet and tried his best to accommodate all of us especially with food allergies. However he did make one mistake that did come off as a little offensive. In order for this to make a little more sense my wife is petite and we've had experiences in the past where waiters will make somewhat questionable remarks or do strange things to our orders because of her size. By no means was this waiter intentionally disrespectful, as it was a mistake that was very understandable. The waiter assumed my wife's order of pancakes (alongside her order of the Costa Rican) was a single order of pancakes instead of the whole stack. Now there's nothing on the menu that mentions that they even serve single pancakes. The waiter went out of his way to request a single pancake from the kitchen because he thought my wife wouldn't be able to finish both orders of food. We normally order three dishes at restaurants and share all of them between us, so for him to assume that she wouldn't be able to finish them on her own was a little frustrating (even more so after we found out how tasty the pancakes were ). I had ordered the Chicken St Charles and it was very crispy and delicious. The sauce really makes the biscuit and without the sauce it can come across as dry. The poached egg was more of a hard boiled egg and it was a little disappointing. The yolk would've definitely helped cut the dryness of the biscuit and fried chicken. The Costa Rican was flavorful and definitely the better entree between the two. NOW THE MAIN REASON I'm writing this review is because of them damn White Chocolate Bread Pudding pancakes. These are by far the BEST pancakes I've ever eaten in my life. I know that's a bold statement but lemme tell you, they have a crisp outside with a fluffy inside topped with white chocolate and heavenly white chocolate whiskey sauce. We almost spent 2 hours on the day of our morning flight calling all 5 of their locations to see if we could place an order for pickup. We were willing to make all kinds of sacrifices for these pancakes because you're not going to get these anywhere else. Unfortunately we were never able to get through to any restaurant and the UBER eats app as well as Grubhub didn't have the White Chocolate Bread Pudding pancakes as an option. I'm writing this heartbroken love letter to make sure no one has to go through what we went through. I'm composing this review with tears in my eyes as we're heading out of New Orleans at 450 mph, pancake-less. If you order these pancakes and feel the slightest urge to place another order, I highly suggest you do it for yourself. If not, do it for me. And then call me. Please. It's sort of like spiked eggnog with the color and consistency, but the alcohol surprise is for those 21+. The shrimp and grits was delish. I wish I knew they had an app to be placed on the wait list. That would've helped with the pretty long wait, I think we ended up waiting for ~45 mins. But the place looked pretty cool, outdoor sitting area with corn hole and jenga games. And you could also order drinks during the wait as well. We got seated at the bar, which we didn't mind at all. I had the Trifecta to experience as much as I could during my visit. My only regret was the shrimp Benedict that's included. I thought it would be warm but the shrimp and red sauce were ice cold and the flavor combo just doesn't work for me. I could only stomach 2 bites of it. The chicken st Charles Benedict was pretty good and the Eggs Cochon was amazing! I could have eaten 4 of them. My father had the corned beef Bennie and said it was the best breakfast he has ever had. The corned beef Bennie should have been swapped out for the shrimp Benedict and that would be the ultimate trifecta. The place was clean and inviting. The staff was nice but our server was very slow. She got our drink order quickly and it took awhile to get the drinks but they came before our meals. We finished the drinks before the meals came out. Once served our meals by their food runners we still sat there without drinks for probably 5 minutes, maybe more. So all in all it was probably 20 minutes from the time we got our drinks to the next time we saw our server.
