This was my 'one more chance' visit for Ruby Nail because I had a bad no chip experience (thick and already outgrown looking at the end). It's clean and new, but do yourself a favor and go to the trusty standby a little further up Lincoln. I sat in the Pedicure chair at 7:20 and the clipping, filing, scrubbing part was done in 10 minutes. I'm 32 and can't remember the last time I've gone without painted toenails, meaning I get a lot of pedicures and all around the city. This was the most painful and rushed I've ever had. Pinching skin in the clipping, pushing back too hard, even the buffing part hurt and was painful, I felt like I was getting scraped the entire time. Cut to the cuticle cutters, could tell they were even being held weird and the tip should never be digging straight down into the corner of the toes, so so painful I asked to stop. The paint went on thick sorta like when I paint my own nails on tiny other hand and have a hard time making it look nice. Of course it was smudged when I got home because it was applied way too thick. I really wanted to like this place because of the convienence factor, but go to your trusty spot. Sometimes new is not better. Now I know the difference between experience and inexperience. read more

Place had only been open a month and a half but they already know the right things to do... For instance, "wine Wednesday" where they offer you free wine. Awesome! It's bright, clean, staff is really friendly. It doesn't hurt that I live just down the street, but regardless I'm really picky when it comes to my nails. Wonderful, fun, relaxing experience. Went to Ruby Nails with two of my girlfriends for the first time last week. The atmosphere: It's BYOB, they provided cups. The chairs for pedicures are adjustable massage chairs. They have Friends playing on the TV with subtitles so you can watch and/or chat. The staff is super personable, humorous, and thorough. The mani/pedi: It is Thursday today. Last Thursday is when I had my nails done and my manicure has not chipped AT ALL. I never thought this was possible. This could be a fluke, but I'm going to chalk it up to my manicurist (shout out to Mogie!), OPI, and the wine. They allow you to choose from a variety of polish brands like OPI and Esse. They really take their time and treat you like an old friend. They even wrapped our pedicure and helped us get our socks and boots on so we wouldn't smudge. All in all, a fantastic experience. I typically get manicures about once or twice a year, but I'll have to go more often knowing that Ruby Nails is just a short el ride away. read more

I love Ruby Nails! I just moved here from California and was worried that I wouldn't find a salon to keep up my no chip manicure obsession! Thankfully I found Dana at Ruby nails on my second Chicago nail salon adventure. Dana, and the rest of the staff, are so sweet, professional and accommodating. Sure there may be a little bit of a wait here and there but that's to be expected. It's a nail salon! The staff has no control over you or your friend showing up 5-10 min late and having a trickle down effect on every appointment thereafter. On my second or third appointment, a total cranky pants lit into the owner about the wait and was relentless to the point of making her cry. It wasn't as if she had been ignored and just sat there waiting ... No! She was seated in a spa chair, had a nice foot bath and massage going while chatting with her friend and the staff did update her about the short wait. So anywho... Call ahead and make an appointment because they are. Always. Busy! Because they are amazing and you will love seeing your fingers and toes shining brightly polished and chip free for at least a couple of weeks! read more

I would have given this place a much better rating if it weren't for one thing...SARA would be that one thing. I walked in with high hopes-nice, clean place, everyone ELSE seems really nice, I was in and out of their pretty quickly, HOWEVER, SARA was BRUTAL. To start, she was really rude-rude in the way she spoke to me, rude when she pointed out a scar on my leg to her co-worker and laughed, rude in how rough she was whether when "massaging" my legs (more like full on punching them), rude in how she said "pay before I finish" (um, yeah, I am not new to the concept of paying for a mani/pedi) and then super rude when I gave her a 20% tip that she surely did not deserve and she LITERALLY rolled her eyes at me! Adding insult to injury, my feet felt super dry and sore same day. This pedicure was the worst I've ever had in every way. It's unfortunate because everything else about Ruby Nails seemed very nice. Wow! What a fantastic company! The polish lasts forever, and the service is five stars- greeted at the door by a young gentlemen who excels in what seems to be the perfect amount of hospitality. They are accommodating, warm, and charming- and seem to get along like family. Most of their clientele seem like regulars because they often greet people by name. I typically treat myself to gel nails, but I've also treated myself many times to their chair massage because it too does not disappoint. It is very very reasonable for the quality of the massage- professional and sometimes the only reason I come in. Their waxing service is also excellent. They listen to what you like and really cater to your needs. My nails always look incredible, and though I've moved into a different neighborhood in Chicago, I always come back! read more
