This is my first time in Los Alamos, went to visit my friends, so I took the train and buss to get there. The service was great, fast and nice workers. My food was ready in a jiffy. Not a lot open in Los Alamos on the weekend, but Ruby K's is! It was described by a friend as "the closest thing you'll get to a real New York City bagel in New Mexico" and I think they were right! We got drinks next door at Sugar and Cream and brought them over to enjoy with our sandwiches mid morning. Lox was piled high and hit the spot. The Ruby Club was delicious, really enjoyed it. I got the chicken enchilada soup and it was one of the most bland and empty soups I've ever had. No seasoning, no salt, no stuff either I felt like I was drinking broth. I had to put the bagel chips I got into my soup to give it a little substance. Sandwich was good though! Whatever I've said about jalapeno bagels being my favorites is long gone. I have found the perfect bagel, and that is the green chile bagel, specifically from Ruby K's in Los Alamos. My intention was to stop in this cute little cafe for just a regular bagel and butter but after surveying the menus for a moment I realized I needed to try one of their signature sandwiches. I chose to belly up to the "Up & Atom" (eggs and sausage topped with salsa and melted cheddar cheese on a green chile bagel, $5.69). The namesake derives from the town's popular Manhattan Project National Historical Park Visitor Center just across the street. Holy wowza, this bagel was DA BOMB (get it?). The bagel itself was SPICY, the egg super moist and the sausage bursting with flavor. I loved the salsa and there was plenty of cheddar. I'm sure Ruby's got some other kickass goods on her menu but if you ask me, this sandwich has gotta be one of the best picks. It's just SO GOOOOD! Also, I appreciated the complementary orange muffin. There is nothing that excites me more than the thought of getting a fun little iced coffee and scrumptious little bagel sandwich. My sister is working at LANL for the summer and so we came to Los Alamos to explore and learn some history of her context. This was the perfect fuel for our adventurous day!! I had the bagel sandwich on an everything bagel and it was phenomenal. We also enjoyed a blueberry bagel which was fresh and the perfect bagel consistency. The mini muffin was a happy surprise!! Ruby K makes great bagels and I love picking up a bag of various bagels sometimes. They also offer sandwiches, coffee, and desserts. I absolutely love having this great local business in town, which offers a solid alternative to Starbucks. Service is quick and everything I have every ordered has been served without issue. Seating is limited inside and there is some outdoor seating. However, Ashley Pond is across the street and bring breakfast over to the pond to enjoy on a bench is a great option. I had the Lots of Lox bagel sandwich and it was all that I expected it to be. It has smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, capers and tomatoes over a bagel. I opted for the green chile cheddar version for my bagel and it was good. What wasn't good was the long wait and also the fact that someone who arrived 20 minutes after me had their food prepared before mine. First, my daughter is vegan and enjoys the menu. And you know how tough it can be to find a place to eat when there is a vegan in your group. Me? I had the "Jack and Eggs". Great sandwiches and bagels. The bagel sandwich is my favorite with a side of fruit. I once had my side of veggies and was surprised they served raw veggies like from a grocery store. It was a bit odd and it didn't come with any dressing to dip in but you could ask for it. The bagel chips are also a good option with entrees. We just moved from the east coast to LA, and the bagels here are basically on par with what we've had in New Jersey. You can tell that they're made fresh, have a good chew, and the seasoning on the bagels cover both sides and/or are incorporated throughout. They sell the bagels in bulk, although we haven't gotten a chance to get a sleeve since they're usually sold out by the time we come (we are definitely not morning people). We've come here several times already in the past few weeks, and the service is generally fast -- think 10-15 minutes if it's packed, which it usually is no matter what time. I like it simple, and I tend to get the Up and Atom (egg, sausage, & salsa bagel sandwich), along with a coffee or a smoothie. The salsa is great, the food is seasoned well and consistent, and every bagel sandwich always comes with a tiny, tasty muffin. re: coffee, as much as I've been spoiled by Seattle coffee, I have a pretty low bar for drip coffee, since I've had it burnt, watered down, or somehow turned to rocket fuel sludge, but it's pretty decent here. My husband and I get the house blend. I honestly don't understand the poor reviews on here. We just waited in line for *20 minutes*, starving, only to place our order and then be told that all of their credit card machines weren't working. I realize this was not the establishment's fault. What IS their fault, and the reason for this review, is the terrible customer service. There was no apology. No offer to allow us to wait while they rebooted their machines and fixed their mistake. Just a blank stare and a demand for cash before turning us away due to their error. WTF it's 2020 who carries cash?? Certainly no concessions offered either. If you're into being punished for the restaurant's faulty machine and love generally awful service, this is the place for you. read more

I was in Los Alamos for a wedding a couple of weeks ago. I had a few hours to explore by myself so I walked over to Ruby K's for lunch. The inside is cute! It has small town charm! It was busy and the line was almost out the door. They have a large variety of homemade bagels. They had some interesting flavors like hatch green Chile. I thought about trying it, but regrettably did not. I ordered a the Ruby K bagel sandwich. It had roast beef, turkey, ham, cheddar and aioli. I got it minus the aioli. I also got the homemade bagel chips as the side. My food came out pretty quickly. It was delicious! They were generous with the meat and the bagel was very good quality! The bagel chips were really good! They change flavors regularly, I'm guessing based on the bagels that were left over from the previous day. I highly recommend this place! I wasn't really in the mood for a bagel but we came by anyway and, surprise (!), there's a whole menu of delights to consider. Yes, the majority of them include some type of bagel, but there are also wraps and salads and smoothies to choose from. I had the hot dog baked into a bagel roll that was more delicious than I care to admit (hot dogs are my guilty pleasure). YUM! I was in Los Alamos for work for over 10 days and frequented Ruby's several times. The fresh bagels and cream cheese in the morning, the sandwiches for lunch, desserts and their great choices for fresh smoothies kept me and my coworkers coming back for more.
