Ruby Chow's host must've committed it to memory when he trained for his job. I've been here plenty of times before and never had this experience. Came in to celebrate my friend's birthday. There were three of us and they directed us to a two top with an extra place setting. I could already tell that by the time we got our drinks and water cups, we'd have no room for our food and we planned on ordering a lot. It was still early in the night so there were a lot of vacant tables. Went back to the host to see if we could get moved to a bigger table to accommodate all of our dishes. He hemmed and hawed and finally sat us in what seems like the only four top in the entire restaurant besides the outdoors. We waited for about ten minutes before our server approached us profusely apologizing and hoping we hadn't waited long. She said that no one had let her know that she had us as a table. I've worked for seven years as a hostess and it was clear to me that this was a way of getting back at us for having the audacity to ask for a different table. Okay. Server was great. Food and drinks were great. But the person who is in charge of first impressions to diners with his unbothered Gen Z stare was not. Ruined it. +$1.50 for chili oil, +$2.50 for an xtra sprinkle of scallions. The lobster left a lot to be desired so +$12 for chicken or +$10 for sausage if you want extra protein. A wonderful date night that made me fall in love with many dishes. We ate so much food I literally felt stuffed. Ever been to a place where EVERYTHING had its own unique twist and taste and immaculately tasty? This is the air Spot for that. Low, dim lit restaurant, with a bar so tall you couldn't help but stare at its niceness. The bartenders is pretty lit up so I'm the dark space it's a nice touch. It was EXTREMELY comforting to enjoy how dim the lights were while chatting and listening to the lightly playing music. It was relaxing in every aspect. They have upstairs as well for seating hut we opted for downstairs. I can't begin to explain just how good the food here is. I even tried a beer that's limited and imported. I'm a brew head so it was nice to be able to try something that I've never had before there. Parking was right behind the restaurant in a garage, but there is an opening that you can walk right through to get to ruby chows. Would I go again? YES. Was it a great experience? Ruby Chow's is an Asian fusion spot located in the heart of Atlanta. The interior is giving very much quirky and luxurious? There are a lot of dark reds and velvety items inside; the booths are like red couches that still have plastic on them while their back wall of the bar is filled with a lot of Buddha statues. It definitely seems like a date night spot due to the more intimate ambiance inside. My friend and I arrived a little after it opened on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy. We did not have reservations, but the hosts were able to seat us at the bar (the seats at the bar are fairly close to one another so be prepared for that, but otherwise I felt okay about the space I had between the people next to me). The service was good; the bartender was friendly and made lively conversation with a couple sitting next to me and the food came out incredibly quick which was fantastic. A lot of items on their menu are tapas so they are small plates that are shareable for 2-3 people each. My friend and I ordered the Roti Canai, Pow Pow Shrimp, Szechuan Green Beans, Cacio e Pepe, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Tea Martini, and The Lychee. As far as drinks go, my friend thought the Thai Tea Martini tasted too much like Thai tea while The Lychee was a fairly sweet drink, but it did have somewhat of a bitter aftertaste to it. As for the food... it was exquisite!!! The Szechuan Green Beans were pretty good, there was a nice glaze coating them that was not too strong or weak. I think the green beans tasted better at the bottom where they got the chance to soak up the glaze. I loved the Roti Canai! It was a bit oily, but I forgot about the oiliness once I dipped it into the curry, which was extremely savory (there were carrots, potatoes, and chicken). I think my favorite dish was the Pow Pow Shrimp that was essentially fried shrimp covered in a lemongrass flavor. It was incredibly tasty! The Cacio e Pepe tasted like how it should... I was unable to taste the Asian flavors in that dish, though, as it had Szechuan pepper but that did not make a big difference. It was still creamy and yummy! I think my least favorite dish was the Mango Sticky Rice. The rice and mangoes on their own were great, but this dessert also comes with a mango ice cream or sorbet which was sweet and overpowered the dish as a whole. Overall, I had a pleasant time at Ruby Chow's! It seems that making reservations is the moves. Service: Listen...I don't get the hype about this place. The service was ok considering the server had tables inside and outside so she was stretched thin but still remained positive which I respect. Bill total: So we spent about $130 for 1 beer, 2 sweet teas (refills were not free),2 appetizers (mushrooms & calamari) 1 small plates (scallops) and 1 bigger plate and mango sticky rice. The "bigger plate" was lobster fried rice which was $29. We were charged for sauces...EVERY SINGLE RAMEKIN of sauce. Food review: The beer, mushroom and calamari appetizers were outstanding! The spicy pork noodles were not spicy and was extremely greasy. I get that it's pork and pork has a lot of fat which explains the grease, but I sent it back because it lacked flavor and it was way too much grease. Even the chili sauce I asked for in hopes that it would make the dish spicy, was also extremely greasy and was disgusting. The mango sticky rice was good and very close to what I've had in Thailand. Parking: valet was $5 which was convenient. There is street parking...at your own risk when it's available. To the owners: make sure your servers inform your customers that there are no free refills on sweet teas and that you will be charging for all sauces that should ordinarily come with the dish. I did receive a free drink coupon for my birthday, but I have no plans on returning to redeem it. The prices are too high for food that lacks flavor. Walked in on a busy Saturday night without a reservation. Despite the crowd, the host managed to seat us on the patio within ten minutes. I have to mention how stunning the ambiance is inside--very inviting with dim lighting that sets a perfect mood. Although we didn't get a seat indoors, the patio had a vibe of its own! Now onto the good stuff: the food! We started with sparkling water and a mocktail, both beautifully crafted. The miso soup was pretty standard, but the entrees were served a la carte, so we went with the basil chicken, shaking beef, and sides of rice. Everything was delicious, to say the least. Wow what a pleasant surprise. My wife recommended this place and I had never heard of it. It's delicious and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The highlights; we began with a couple of the pork steamed buns and they did it disappoint! We then had the corn soup which is perfectly sweet and savory. We also split the fried oysters - I love oysters but fried oysters are usually not my jam. These were the best I've had - a tasty treat! We finished with the mango sticky rice which was not too sweet and quite fresh. We sat at the bar and the bartender was knowledgeable of the menu and attentive. Ambiance was good. We didn't make a reservation but when we got there the place was packed, and the only accommodations available were couches upstairs or bar, so we went couches. Our server was very energetic, friendly, and helpful with the food we had questions about. A little strong on the upselling of things, but I get it, it's a business. We tried a lot of different things, some worked, some didn't, but the one impressive thing about this place is the SPEED of the kitchen, wow they move fast. So food, in this order: Brussel Sprouts- Delicious, flavorful, best thing we had, lots of sauce. Baos- Good handheld quick bites, would recommend one Caccio E Pepe- A big miss, way too creamy, an attempt at a crossover but a fail here. I was in town for a conference and the day before, we wanted to explore and find a great restaurant. Per usual, I went to the Yelp app and found several options. We collectively decided to try this restaurant and I am SO glad we did. - Fried oysters - Szechuan green beans - walnut shrimp - Roti Canai - Shaking Beef - Mango sticky rice The only downfall was we arrived at the restaurant a little over an hour of them closing for the night. They close at 10pm so be sure to plan accordingly. We were seated at the bar and Paul was our server and bar tender, he was great. He is very informative, makes great food and drink recommendations, def a gem! The space is beautiful and a great vibe. The lights are dim and tables have candles and mood lighting. The art and decor matched the vibes well. They also have an upstairs that we didn't get to enjoy but they allowed us to take a peak and it's very aesthetically pleasing, esp if you want those photo ops. Hmmmm I really wanted to enjoy this visit from my last review but I guess this place is not my jam. I think overall this was a 2.5 experience rounded up. Came here on a Friday night around 6:30 and ordered some things off happy hour menu and regular menu. Service was attentive and one server shared some helpful hints about the HH shishito peppers vs normal shishito peppers but did not comment on the shrimp portion sizes (more later). Food came out quick after ordering. The best things that I tried this time was the Bang Bang shrimp and fried mushrooms. Some things that fell below the bar were the scallops (3 pieces, $19) for this price point I would think they would be larger, one of the three was nicely sized where as the other 2 looked like they were cut in half. First impressions they looked nicely seared maybe too much sear and we were right slightly over seared and salted. The lobster fried was overly sweet and the lobster had a weird taste - I complained years ago about soggy half filled rice containers from this place and it was ironic to see the fried rice have a soggy all white chunk in this dish. Wontons were overcooked and was a bit chewy with a meh sauce could have been better. The shrimp dishes really irked me since they were the best tasting dish. Why would you not tell me to go with the happy hour bang bang shrimps vs walnut shrimp while I'm ordering all of this well before 7 pm? The HH bang bang shrimp comes with 3 pieces, $8 while walnut shrimp was 4 pieces, $15 it's the same exact sauce the latter has some over-caramelized walnuts on top. Not sure I would revisit this place it's not for me it's too Americanized and a bit over-priced for the portion size. The Ruby dragon cocktail is my favorite! Similar to a spicy margarita. My brother ordered the shaking beef and walnut shrimp and enjoyed those very much. The bang bang shrimp has a good flavor and on the happy hour menu! Service the first time was excellent!! Waitress second go around couldn't describe the dishes that well (looked to be very young, college aged). The restaurant itself has a grown, classy intimate vibe. I could see how this would be good for going out with girlfriends or a nice date night! Dishes are pricey but it's located next to Ponce City Market. Most places in this area are pricey. Such a rocky start to a dining experience. Valet was shared with a hookah lounge so it was full when I arrived on a Friday evening. I drove around for about 20 min looking for parking and almost missed my reservation. I highly recommend Uber or setting aside time to find parking when planning the commute. As soon as I entered the building my mood changed. I received a warm welcome and I was immediately taken to my table. The waitress came to greet me with such a bright aura. I felt relieved. I have passed this place so many times but never got the chance to go in or get food. I ordered takeout because I had a craving for noodles and I was blown away. The decor, the service, the food. It's kind of dark and moody inside, a true hidden oasis on Glen Iris. Parking was tricky, but because I was just picking up, the valet let me park on the side. Everything was great! We could not find any parking directly at Ruby Chow's, but Ponce market is right across the street and there are plenty pay to park options there. Upon entering, my first impression of Ruby Chow's was a chic intimate lounge with unique cocktails and small plates. They have smaller booth seats as well a bar but manages it in a way that doesn't feel cramped. We didn't have any reservations made but the staff sat us at the bar and the two bartenders were super warm and friendly. We ordered 5 dishes in total: 1. Roasted bone marrow: My favorite dish that night. It was so incredibly rich and bursting with umami, especially with the crispy baguette with some onion jam spread on it. It was the perfect combination of sweet and savory, 100% recommend ordering this dish! 2. Miso eggplant This dish took inspiration from Mediterranean baba ganoush, as the eggplant had hints of smokiness and when mixed with the peppers gave a nice bite to it. 3. Seared scallops Scallops had a nice crust on the outside and we're still soft and juicy inside. Paired very nicely with the mushroom sauce 4. Crispy maitake The mushrooms were bartered and fried and were crispy outside and bursting with umami inside. The black garlic aioli was a unique taste and paired nicely 5. Cacio e Pepe Noodles were soft and the sauce looked a bit on the watery side but was very rich and creamy. There was an option to add a fried pork cutlet but we chose not too. This dish was our least favorite of the night, but still delicious! Over all, we had an amazing dining experience sitting at the bar. We didn't order any alcohol, but the bartenders were friendly and we talked about our new years (thanks Joseph!) the food had a unique take on some classic dishes. Had a really great experience at the Ruby Chow's bar this week. Had a glass of wine and two others in my group had a gin + tonic garnished with a little flower, as you can see in the pic. As a whole (3 of us), we ended up getting the Katsu Bun, seared scallops, Pow Pow Shrimp, Szechuan green beans, basil chicken, salt + pepper tofu. All of it was excellent. The portions were much bigger than I expected, in particular the tofu, chicken, and the green beans! The green beans seemed to never end, and I liked them in particular because they were heavily seasoned all the way through rather than just on top of the bowl. As you can see in the photo, the scallops are served in 3s so be aware if ordering for more than 3 at the table. If I were to come alone, I'd have a glass of wine + the basil chicken and be set. The bartender described it as his favorite comfort dish which was a perfect description. Will definitely be returning. So, I was so confused on the small plate concept until I visited this beautiful, cozy establishment. Now, everyone may not understand but you have to see it for yourself. The music was comforting. The only hiccup was my sister and I sat in the corner with windows looking out onto the street. At night, there isn't a lot of inside lighting so you have to use your cellphone light to read the menu. The food was amazing. Don't come hungry like I did. It makes you want to order everything in sight. The waitstaff was attentive from the host seating until you exited. I am a foodie, and would no lead you down a rabbit hole of okay dishes. First off , the phone call with the front desk started off with me asking if they have room for 6 ppl and the person on the other side asked " do you need a reservation for 6 ppl ?" Next when we came in they gave us an outdoor seating in 90 degree temp. They did not mention on the phone that they only can accommodate 6 ppl outside so that sucked. Later their kitchen was closing so they asked us to Order everything upfront. So we ordered everything upfront. They got the appetizers and entrees and desserts with icecream all at the same Time. So they were expecting us to eat the appetizers and entrees before the icecream melted in the 90 degree weather. So I asked them to leave the desserts in the fridge until we completed our food. After our entrees they got the desserts to Us. Why would you get icecream at the same time as appetizers when it's 90 degrees. The one star is for the food. read more

We made a quick reservation for dinner. Everything was so good. We enjoyed the bone marrow and the mussels the best. The basil chicken was okay, nothing special, but definitely needs some rice to go along with it because it is salty. The roti canai is quite good and has a small fiery kick to it. The bone marrows is just so good and definitely a must try. Oh did I mention the mussels, they are so fresh and so juicy. For parking, we did the valet parking in the back because it's convenient. Went here for a company dinner and had the best time. To start, the Purple Rain cocktail is a must have. I don't usually recommend any type of cocktail, but this was nothing short of perfect and refreshing! We had a prix fixe menu that really had the best options I could've ever asked for. To start, we devoured the Roti canai. Classic, can't go wrong with that. Delicious. Along with this we had grilled shishito peppers, wontons, miso eggplant dip, and crispy rolls! The grilled shishito peppers were okay, but I thoroughly enjoyed the other appetizers. In the mains, we had a delicious shaking beef, basil chicken, spicy pork noodles, kimchi fried rice, cacio e pepe (threw me off, but was still great), and chengdu brussel sprouts. Of this, I wouldn't strongly recommend the pork noodles (not bad by any means, but the others are just so much better in my opinion) but the other dishes were phenomenal. Went by this place because my friends recommended it to us, and boy was amazing from the jump! Finding the door was kinda tricky, but my friends told us that was part of their schtick - making it something unique and have to know to know sort of thing i guess. But you go in and behind a red velvet curtain, you're met with just an explosion of decoration and cool wall paper and neon lights - we checked in with the hosts, and everyone had on fancy mics and walkie talkies - they take their service serious! We got seated upstairs and it's a whole other vibe up there - vibey, romantic, cozy. The host was asking us questions, led us to the table, presented their wine menu, and told us about how the upstairs recently got an upgrade. It was nice. Flowers and candles on every table - this was a classy spot. Our server was Cheyenne, and she is so so sweet. We loved her energy, she was knowledgeable about the cocktails and food. We ordered Thai Tea Martini, Knight's Rook Old Fashioined to start - really really good drinks! The Thai Tea Martini was so creamy and sweet, just like Thai Tea and the Knights Rook was a spiced, cinnamon flavored old fashioned. Cheyenne told us it's an Asian tapas style restaurant, so we ordered a bunch of small plates, and each one hit! Shaking beef - tender, juicy ribeye steak, basil chicken was bomb, and the cacio pepe with chicken cutlet bowl was a show stopper! I started with a mocktail- The Butterfly effect and that was delicious. I tried the Cranberry boss and hated that. It was awful. My friend got a few cocktails and enjoyed his. For food: Peking duck buns - good! The bun was soft and the duck was cooked well. Didn't have skin though. Miso soup - meh - don't get this Seared scallops - Scallops were decent sized. Overly salty Roasted bone marrow - I LOVE bone marrow and this was delicious Salt and pepper tofu - mid Miso eggplant dip - my friend's favorite of the night Roti canai - soft roti with dip, very good Shoyu tomago - it was okay? Cacio pepe - I did not like this but my friend did Pork Kimchi Fried Rice - I liked it but it came out so late that I didn't have stomach for it anymore Green beans - SO good. I ate it all within 2 minutes of it being put down Mango sticky rice - I love mango sticky rice, but I really don't like it when they put mango sorbet on top vs fresh mango. Did not like. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a few drinks along with several dishes. The bartender was knowledgeable, attentive, and fast. For food, I shared pow pow shrimp which was nicely battered and had a pleasant lemongrass taste, the sake butter mussels (you get a good amount of mussels and the broth is delicious), basil chicken (always my favorite dish to try), shoyu tamago with caviar (I'd recommend not getting it with caviar since the delicious sweet soy vinaigrette it comes with overpowers the caviar), and the confit chicken which was tender and came with a delicious purée. The vibe in here is the best I've ever experienced at a "Chinese" restaurant! Dining by myself so I sat at the bar. The duck bao, soft-boiled egg on crispy rice and seared scallops stole the show, they impressed me with the favor and very innovative and different presentation, I love it! Cocktails were ! Had dinner here for the first time last night for a friends birthday. I'm not sure what was going on, if our server was new or just not great at her job but most of my review is about service rather than food. I'll start with the food, which as all great. It's sort of a like Asian tapas. All small and shareable. Everything we ordered was really good. I would have preferred some sort of gage of spice as someone with a stomach issue and as a result is unfortunately spice adverse now. A few of the items we ordered were too spicy for me to eat without getting sick, but were not marked in any way in the menu-so a lot of my order I had to just give to the table. It is worth mentioning that some items are marked as "spicy" but definitely not all. Our table agreed that certain items were surprisingly spicy. I did order a Moctail (I was driving) that was delicious-almost like a lemon drop. Now to the service. First, I called in advance of our reservation to ask a simple yes or no question about parking that was not covered on their socials, their website and I saw nothing here on Yelp. We called, someone picked up said "can I put on a brief hold" and put us on hold before I could say anything 12 min later the call got disconnected and was never picked back up. There was no safe street parking (though there are options via park mobile-this was all full) so we were forced to valet ($5-not the end of the world) but the valet literally took our keys, parked in a spot 10 feet away and that was that. It's comically unnecessary to make people pay for valet. When we left he literally just handed us our keys and stood in front of us watching while we had to tip on top of valet parking...cool... Once we actually got to the table, first our drinks didn't come out until we asked 3 times about them and my drink took four reminders. Our first round of ordered reached us before any drinks. There were LONG stretches between anyone checking on us or taking a second round of orders. Our second round of drinks once again had to be reminded about. She couldn't really answer any questions about anything. By the time of dessert, one of our party ordered a coffee and that never came. When the bill came out it at least hadn't been charged (which tells me she just forgot about our "late" orders throughout the evening needing multiple reminders) they also ignored that it was my friends birthday despite it being in the notes at the time of booking. Not even a "happy birthday" which doesn't feel out the realm of reasonably (and despite me saying happy birthday a few times while our server was at the table) There was a very talkative someone (not sure if it was a host, manager, or som) who came by twice to talk up the bar offerings but she didn't introduce herself at all and sort of came up to the table to talk. They did not offer or ask to split the bill at all. We had to ask them to do it evenly which I know isn't ideal for everyone's budgets at the moment. For our specific table our half of the party had 6 dishes total and one moctail, while our friends ordered 8 dishes, 4 cocktails, and two desserts. So the plot down the center was not exactly even but it was too uncomfortable to ask for separate bills as we truly weren't sure she would know how to accommodate. I will say it's a really cool environment. I'd love to come for a drink sometime but not if I have to pay for unnecessary valet. A beautiful space and food was all good but the inconveniences and lack of general basic hospitality skills, makes me think I'm not returning or recommending it. (Plus more than $150 price tag for no drinks or dessert + all that nonsense is not it) Gave it 2 stars because the food I was able to eat was all very good. But it was truly a 1 star experience for us. Had we have gotten a better server it probably would have been an entirely different experience but from start to finish it just wasn't great. read more

5 people, $300 for typical Chinese food. It's billed as Chinese tapas so little bitty servings. Seriously? 3 small scallops as a tapas. $19. Service was great. Downstairs is normal noise level, upstairs is LOUD and you will not hear yourself think. Deafening. Oh, didn't even get a fortune cookie! read more
