I didn't ask for Sequoia or teak. I've been getting wood for years from places as far away from me as this place, same amount, same mix, carry-up, and it's never been even half this amount. I understand getting wood in the city is expensive, but $1,300 is an absolute joke. Definitely shop around.

I hired them to cut back two of my neighbor's trees, which in itself can be a touchy matter. Yes, I do have every right to cut to the property line without killing the tree, but these guys don't have to listen to her the day after...and the day after that... While I was occupied with instructions on cutting back a 50ft horse chestnut tree, they severely pruned a magnolia tree by hand on the other side of the property without my knowledge. Yes, this was part of the work order, but had I been privy to the timing they wouldn't have overshot the property line by 3 feet (!) Moreover, they badly stripped the bark on each cut which made *clean up* cuts impossible. Anyone who knows how to prune limbs should know the two-cut method, especially with a pole saw. Geesh. To make matters worse, the foreman (Dennis' brother) complained incessantly to me about the weather and getting to the next job. He aimed a chainsaw at my face (only HALF jokingly) when I complained about the magnolia tree. He knew I was right but couldn't bring himself to admit it. Now that's service ! My advice is if you aren't really concerned about maintenance beyond grunt work, these guys are fine. If you're looking for anyone slightly resembling an arborist, look elsewhere.

I buy a lot of wood (we make a lot of fires!), usually a full cord in late fall at the start of fireplace season, followed by two face cords later in the winter after we've made a big dent in that initial order. The wood is a good combination of small and big pieces, the small pieces are great to start fires and the big pieces are perfect once the fire starts. Other places I've used I've had to split the wood one or two times, which while fun, quickly becomes a chore. As long as Jim runs Chicago Firewood, he's my guy. Highly recommended.
