Roy's Cafe certainly promotes its influences from Amboy CA, and that's good. The ambience is retro and the service is friendly. There are numerous menu choices and the food is good quality. I enjoyed a delicious cheeseburger smothered in chili accompanied by a side of golden crinkle fries. Upon request, the kitchen even grilled a whole jalapeño for me! Super cute. Very clean, friendly, family environment. The place looks small but seats a good number. Do yourself a favor: If you're having breakfast, order the loaded hash browns. Ask for your sausage on the side because you might not find it all if it's mixed in with the hash browns, peppers, onions, etc. Add an egg on top and that's pretty much a perfect breakfast. Also - obviously - it's in a super cute part of Barstow. So you can get your kicks right there on Route 66! read more

Located in the heart of historic downtown Barstow, right on Route 66, this little diner is a gem. It's not especially dressed up or themed, but if you want a happy, full stomach, this is the place for you in Barstow. Our server was Angi, and I loved her laid-back, joking manner. She didn't have that stereotypical manner many servers do, with their "What can I get ya, Sweetie" and "How was it, Honey?" comments. We were very happy with our meals, even though the kitchen didn't lettuce-wrap my burger as I had requested. I heard her tell them they had made a mistake and they apologized. She offered to replace it or bring more lettuce, but the side salad I had ordered was so big I had PLENTY of lettuce and didn't need more. I just put the bun to the side and used a knife and fork to eat the burger. Everything else was as ordered and delicious! We will return when in town again. I want to try their strawberry milkshake! I was a regular at Roys café in Las Vegas. Regrettably they closed down sometime ago. So, since then I've never been able to enjoy there delectable Chorizo breakfast burrito that I fell in love with oh so long ago. That is until I found out that they have another location located in Barstow California. So of course I had to make a pitstop on my road trip to Cali. If you're ever in this part of town in Barstow where Roy's Café is located for the purpose of sightseeing. I gotta say you'll be extremely disappointing in the small, quaint, dusty city of Barstow. But if you're just passing through just to stop at Roys Café for a nice bite to eat. You'll be pleasantly satisfied. read more

I had the carnitas fajita quesadilla and it was one of the best & tastiest quesadillas I've ever had - and it was huge, literally covered the whole plate & was stuffed. So good!! My girlfriend had the double cheeseburger and it too was off the hook with flavor & size. She also got the mashed potatoes and cream gravy and they are real and homemade - absolute delicious. We happened upon this place because we broke down and our car is being fixed up the road. Here for breakfast. Not crowded at all for a Mother's Day. I ordered machaca and eggs. Hubs ordered ham and eggs. With pancakes. You will not go hungry here. The machaca had good flavor. Had some jalapeños. I would have them leave them out but still very delish. The ham steak was a good portion and flavorful. Instead of just toast you have the option of biscuits and gravy or pancakes. They have a pic of street tacos in the window. Don't let the way it looks on the outside scare you away. We pulled up and almost drove away thinking Yelpers were crazy. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly! The hamburger patties are handmade and not the pre-made frozen patties. The lettuce on my burger was nice and crisp and the tomato was so delicious(I usually don't eat the tomato slice). They put red onion on the burgers which might throw you off if you are used to the white onion taste. My sister ordered the Denver Omelette with a side of pancakes at no extra cost!!! She almost bit off my finger while taking a picture of her food because of how good it smelled and looked. The waitress was friendly and very attentive. We arrived here later than the Yelp menus suggest that breakfast is available, however, the server said breakfast was no problem and we could order whatever we liked! First of all, the menu has a lot to offer. They advertise "best burger in town," but there was so much else we all chose a non burger item. I had the machaca con huevo with rice, beans and tortillas which was quite good and my partner ordered a club sandwich with fries. The portions are large so come ready to eat! Drinks come in a quart jar and my buddy must've had 3 russets cut into crisp crinkle fries on his plate! The rice was fluffy and not over-seasoned, and the beans were creamy and tasty. I got the turkey melt which comes with your choice of bread (I went with the french roll) and a side (I went with my guilty-pleasure hashbrowns which were buttery, crispy on the outside, and starchy on the inside, just how I like them). Music played is mostly classic oldies. The food portions are large but expensive though. It only has one cocktail. It's a michelada, which is kind of like a Mexican version of a Bloody Mary. This is $8 for a large jar full, which is okay because it really is a lot to drink for that much. It's made with a choice of beer. The obvious choice is Corona. It also has a few other Mexican beers. This is mixed with lime juice, spices, and tomato juice. It was better than the food. The food menu is mostly greasy and meaty. I had the vegetable burger. It's about $10 and comes with fries or a salad. The burger comes with thousand island dressing but I got it with mustard instead of that. It's a good restaurant for being in Barstow. It's much better than fast food. The service is actually pretty fast though. read more

We live about 2 hours from here. Found the place passing through. The food and service were beyond amazing! It was so good we stopped on our way back. It was decided that we would make the drive again just for the food. First stop we had a mix of breakfast and lunch. The eggs were magazine cover perfect and the pancakes were delicious. The burgers were juicy and flavorful. On the way back we all had lunch. I ordered the street tacos and a burrito. I have to say that I don't normally pay more than $2 for street tacos and they are $3 there but I ordered anyway. I would happily pay 3 for them any day and twice on Sunday. Fantastic! The burrito had been to flavor town and it showed! It was probably big enough to feed two or three people, or one of me. (I like to eat.). The waitress was also beyond amazing. She took great care of us. Everyone in our party of 5 agreed that this will be our stopping place anytime we pass through or just want to get away. My husband and I were on our way to Vegas and needed a quick stop for breakfast not too far from the freeway. Roy's was perfect! Just a mile off the 15 freeway. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant by friendly employees which set the tone for a delicious meal. My husband had machaca and ate every morsel on his plate. He claims it was the best he has had because of the tenderness of the meat combined with the great favors of the beans and rice. I had a spinach omelet. The generous amounts of the veggies were complimented by the melted Swiss cheese. As we were eating our breakfast, we began our return visit on our roadtrip home.
