Brunch is my absolute fav meal of the day. It's best to get it started in a healthy way, and the Red Hen cafe does just that: with the garden skillet. Loved it! Potatoes, veges, and some egg. Thanks for the vegetarian options! Love it. :) The hubby and I decided to try it one autumn morning here in Helendale, down the street and it doesn't disappoint. It's close enough to leave the doggos home and head out for a hearty meal. The service was friendly and excellent! Coffee served quickly and my steaming hot tea as well. Ready to try another yummy item on the menu soon! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thanks for the great service, cozy, rustic atmosphere, and yummy foods[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Will return shortly!

Homemade Comfort and Hospitality on Route 66 The Red Hen in Helendale is a five-star experience through and through. I had scrambled eggs with hashbrowns and a side of biscuit and gravy--and every bite tasted homemade. The eggs were fluffy, the hashbrowns crispy, and the biscuit and gravy? Next level. Unlike other places that hide a dry, stale biscuit under heavy gravy, The Red Hen serves moist, perfectly layered biscuits that stand on their own. The gravy complements rather than covers--it's comfort food done right. Service was just as impressive: coffee came out before the meal, and they brought a warmer as my food arrived. Thoughtful touches, great food, and a cozy atmosphere make this place a must-stop.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great out of the way place on the famous route 66 and the food was quite good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not sure of the hours so I would check it site, but I do not believe they're open for dinner.

So this was quite the gem....delicious comfort food made with love for sure...we had a hobo skillet, chicken and freshly made waffles airy on the inside and a soft crunch on the outside...chicken had flavorful gravy and mushrooms on top of a plump juicy crispy chicken fried chicken ..best I've ever had...we had a cinnamon roll French toast like no other in all the land! We even bought pancakes and a breakfast burrito to go..(for later) and of course we boxed up some as well...the friendliest owners ever..we plan on returning to this amazing place! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It felt like home ..vibe was like being at grandmas house...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]service was spot on...

This is a cute cafe on Route 66. I remember this used to be a Molly Brown's restaurant. Now it has been updated in a cheerful red paint. It is a nice drive to the cafe especially if one is headed to Barstow. The menu has many items to choose from. I had the Paul Bunyan because I wanted to try all the breakfast meats plus eggs and home fries. The home fries had a delicious perfect ratio of green peppers and onions to potatoes. I had the eggs scrambled and they were also delicious with a good flavor. The meal came with a choice of either pancakes or French toast. I chose pancakes. There were two and both were very tall and fluffy with crispy edges. The breakfast meats consisted of a bone-in ham steak, two link sausages, and two thick slices of bacon. I really enjoyed the ham which was tender and very flavorful without being too salty. All in all, I had an excellent breakfast and experience at The Red Hen Cafe. The waitstaff were friendly and efficient. There is also ample parking in the lot. A definite return in the future to this place will be planned.

Great food, kind service and a hometown feel. Makes you feel like you went home to visit your folks on the old farm. Coffee was pretty decent. There was an old man whom I overheard at the register. His card ended up declining and the lady was so sweet and said he could come back and take care of it the next day. He was an obvious regular but you sure don't run into that anymore. Just had that old town feel. Sweet little spot off old Route 66.

My niece and her husband and myself stopped here today. On our way to Las Vegas for elite breakfast early lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We love the fact that it's on route 66 and it is nicely decorated with the farm motif.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Although the place was packed, the service was friendly and professional, and the food came out in a timely manner. My niece and her husband had breakfast. I had a bacon cheeseburger. It was cooked perfectly as were the french fries. My niece and her husband enjoyed the omelette and breakfast items they had. They were especially pleased with the banana bread. I wish this place was closer and open longer hours as I would frequent it very often definitely enjoyed our food and experience at the red hen café. Highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area.

This restaurant was a one and done. I ordered a small drink off the kids menu. I asked if it was ok because kids menu specified 12 and under. The young man said it was fine. When the waitress came to take our order, she sa my drink and asked if they brought that out to me, I said yes. She said adults could not order off the kids menu then said the young man might not have know. I told her I hope he doesn't get in trouble. She said he would not and that she was only telling me in case next time i ordered a kids drink that I might be told no. I thanked her. I did she her tell some other lady working there as they both looked over at our table. After our "eh" meal we could have made better at home, we got the check. I was charged for a regular drink, not a kids. I asked the young man if I could get a lemonade refill to go, he said he had to ask...his boss I guess it was. I think he was new. Lady comes over, I mentioned I got charged for a regular drink when I ordered a small. She said yes because I wasn't allowed to order off the kids menu. Had the FIRST lady not said it was ok, I would have asked her to take the drink back. I could only drink 2-3 sips, I didn't want to pay for a large drink. I didn't want to get into a whole conversation about it with lady #2. I asked for a lemonade refill. It came out in a regular sized cuff. There was no misunderstanding. I think it was a BS decisions by lady #2, ESPECIALLY when two of her employees had already told me it was OK. Food looked nice and but was "eh". For lackluster food, not worth coming back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cute little spot but not worth returning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Worth the stop. The food was as good as the service. Tight parking for a 40' trailer, but doable.

Random little burger spot we stopped at while doing home health in the High Desert, and honestly…read more.. we loved it! We both got the California burgers with avocado and bacon, plus fries, and everything tasted super fresh. The portions were really good too, which I always appreciate. But what I loved was that they threw in a couple of onion rings with the fries. Sometimes I just want that extra crunch without committing to a whole order of onion rings, so that was a win for me! They were also generous with the ranch (always a plus ), and they had those yellow peppers on the side which just hit different. Definitely a solid little burger spot if you're ever in the Victorville area. Would for sure recommend JLC Jr Burgers!

It came with fresh shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onions and was dressed with 1000 island sauce. Portion size was definitely filling and it certainly satisfied my craving. Their Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger Special is a good deal. I ordered it with onion rings and fried zucchini. It comes with a drink of your choice. The onion rings were fried very crunchy. The zucchini were sliced thinly and lightly battered. Both these sides tasty good. The cheeseburger was quite large in size with a flavorful beef patty, crispy bacon, and fresh toppings. Like the Turkey Burger, it came with lettuce, onions, pickles, and 1000 Island dressing. I ordered Chicken Wings also, twelve pieces. Their wings are worth the very reasonable price point. They were meaty and thoroughly cooked yet the wings remained tender and moist. The BBQ sauce accompanying these wings was good but I think I would order it with Buffalo sauce next time. JLC Jr. Burgers is definitely a return visit if one is craving a simple meal at an economical price. Menu items are numerous with a variety of choices. Service is fast, friendly, and efficient.

We found parking easily and walked on - as soon as we walked in we were greeted warmly - always a good sign! The inside was very clean - it took us a minute to remember the menu because we don't get there often. Ordering was easy and the person at the counter was super friendly! Food was made quickly and was very tasty, hot and fresh! When we were finished I went to thrown our trash and put the tray back and I noticed the gentleman who was making the food and told him everything was delicious! He was very friendly Would definitely stop here again

First, and probably the most important, they don't have Diet Pepsi, but Pepsi Zero. And Pepsi Zero is just awful. And yes, I tried it. I admit that I'm a fan of Coke products, but I'll survive on Diet Pepsi, never, but never Pepsi Zero. So that alone makes me not want to come here anymore. This trip, the girl taking our order seemed confused. Maybe she was new? But it didn't help that we had to explain we wanted a bowl of Chili, and even though it's not on the menu, they could sell it. I personally didn't want a burger this time, so I ordered a chicken sandwich, which is basically just chicken tenders on a bun. Not very impressed, but it wasn't as bad as Pepsi Zero. They do get credit for having a "senior" menu, which I ordered from. And I appreciate that they have tater tots. It seemed like a smaller portion, but it was actually perfect for me. I'll keep checking back, but if I see they still only serve Pepsi Zero, I might be walking over the McD's for my drink.

It's just a good place, period. Definitely coming back.

Everything from the bathroom to the lobby to the little dining room is really tricked out nicely. This place probably is more of a bar for beer and they happen to do food also. In the indoor dining room they have four televisions with the latest sporting events going. When we were there, two of the TVs were tuned to the pre-All-Star game, one was the NBA Summer league and the final one was to some Spanish station that had some type of soap opera /talk show going on. The wife ordered the declaration burger and I ordered the Californication burger. They both came with french fries. The one thing we both noted was the cold buns. This really immediately made the burger not that appealing. Both burgers were cooked to order. I can talk directly to mine. It was a good burger with an Ortega green chili on it piece of cheese two piece of bacon and shredded lettuce and some diced tomatoes. Unfortunately having a cool doughy bun on a hot burger just didn't do it. The wife complained of the exact same thing. The french fries were hot, but they were nothing to write home about. No seasoning or anything like that. They were not very busy when we walked in three tables going. The service was slow because our server was talking to some friend at the end of the bar who appeared to be an employee on break. They have a great concept and with a little effort and attention to detail the food could be outstanding. With all the competition going on in the village, we were really looking for so much more. We thought we were gonna be getting a Great light designer burger, that really wowed us with taste. But that didn't happen. Might give it a try again. We're making a point to try to hit every single place in the village and the surrounding area.

(4.25 STARS)…read more Memorial Day road trips always seem to create the best random discoveries, and Pit Stop Bar & Grill absolutely delivered. Tucked away off Victor Street in Barstow, this was a fun find while driving back to Los Angeles from Vegas over Memorial Day weekend. Big props to Haley M., who was basically running a one-woman show and somehow kept the entire place moving with a great attitude and solid service. That alone made the stop memorable. The location has a cool, laid-back vibe with plenty to keep people entertained while grabbing food and drinks. They've got two billiards tables, a dart board, and all kinds of classic bar games, board games, and card games, including UNO, which is a family favorite. They also have several televisions. The food was all good too. I really enjoyed the Green Chili Burger, and everyone else in my party seemed genuinely happy with their meals as well. I felt they were trying to nickel and dime when I got the bill, i was charged for a side of ranch, a side of BBQ, and had no idea I was being up charged for the onion rings. I didn't say a word, but it hit wrong with me. .75 points deducted. What especially stood out to me, though, was the Memorial Day place setting displayed near the front entrance honoring our veterans and fallen heroes. It was simple, respectful, and genuinely touching. See my picture. That detail said a lot about the heart behind this place. If you're making the Vegas-to-LA drive and want something more memorable than the usual freeway fast-food stop, this place is definitely worth checking out. Great atmosphere, friendly energy, and one of those spots you end up talking about later.
