A man from my pickleball camp and sports club turns out to be a ballroom dancer, so he invited me…read moreto his Rocklin ballroom dance studio's Friday night open house with a salsa lesson and also told me about Elliott Genovia's $5 dance classes at the dance conservatory on Harding Blvd in Roseville. While I wasn't impressed with the ballroom dance studio, I do quite enjoy Genovia Dance. Here is the dance schedule as of July 2024: Wed 7 PM - Beginner Salsa Wed 8 PM - Intermediate Salsa (progressive class) Fri 7 PM - Beginner Salsa Fri 8 PM - Beginning/Intermediate Bachata (progressive class) Only $5 per class. What a bargain and a gift! Cash is preferred. No credit card transactions. So close to home for me too. I don't have drive all the way to Sacramento. I love Elliott's easy listening music selection, which include bachata cover versions of pop music in English, like Ed Sheeran's "Shivers", John Legend's "All of Me", and Sam Smith's "How Do You Sleep?" All my favorites! I've only been to the Friday classes twice so far. So far, I've seen the beginner salsa class cover the Basic Step, Side Basic, Front Basic, Back Basic, and Right Turn. If he sees that you have had salsa classes before or you can follow and you're lucky enough to get to dance with him, he will lead you into other moves, like the Left Turn. He will give you tips on finetuning your technique, which I found super cool. He sometimes will lead two followers at the same time, one with each hand. Some students could feel insecure getting personally corrected, but you normally have to pay for private lessons for feedback like that. The beginner salsa class needs more leaders, so please show up, men! Women can lead too. I tried leading last week. You are also allowed to bring and pair up with your own partner for the entire class if you prefer, so couples, come learn and dance! You can work on both your relationship and dance connection. The intermediate bachata class is a progressive class that begins the first week of every month. I worry that I slowed class down joining the 2nd week, but I am following well enough according to some of the leaders. We haven't managed to cover new material the 2nd and 3rd weeks, but it is a somewhat tricky routine with the back-to-back Turkish towel move and grapevine ronde counts. It'll be a rush to the finish in Week 4, but hopefully, we learn and add on the new patterns first, instead of review. The dance routine and patterns we're learning are graceful and beautiful. I was always afraid bachata would be too sexy and romantic a dance for me, but I really like it. I think I confused it with lambada....I've watched "Dirty Dancing" too many times! After class, Elliott offers private lessons. He can teach Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Rueda, Hustle, and Kizomba. I've been taking dance lessons on and off throughout life. I get frustrated with the creepy leaders, poor instruction, or dance snobs, but for the first time in a long time and for the first time since moving to the Sacramento area, I am actually excited about going to dance class! Thanks so much, Elliott :-) I was so happy you smiled when I entered class last week.

And they typically respond 24-48 hours. I highly recommend attending one of their many classes they provide and for a very fair price. Do make sure to read over their policies carefully. Yes, it may feel cliquey only because regulars have been going here for a while. But this isn't high school nor does it need to be treated as such. There are plenty of friendly people who are willing to connect and you gotta be willing to connect too. It may be awkward at first but it'll be worth it in the end. I toured…read morethree different locations and settled on Roseville even though it was further away from my home, because the childcare space was bright, clean and the staff are so friendly. There are always plenty of staff in the childcare for both big kids and babies. I immediately took advantage of the free personal training session on my first visit. I worked with Liz. I clicked with her right away because she specifically cared about MY goals for my fitness. I wanted to turn my health around so that I could increase my healthy lifespan with my two kids. I just had a baby at 40 and was very overweight and incapable of many physical functions that I consider important. In my first month working out with Liz, I gained 6 pounds of muscle and lost 8 pounds of fat. I felt physically strong and capable, but also mentally strong because I was confronting something embarrassing for myself but pushing through. After some months I switched to other trainers because Liz is actually the training boss lol. I had been spoiled... but I was very happy with Eric and Alex who taught me new exercises and were just as knowledgeable and caring as Liz. I stuck with Alex for the rest of my time at In-Shape Roseville. He always estimated my ability just right. He would never give me more than I could do, but also not less. I pushed it every single session and got stronger and stronger. Every session was packed with activity and I felt like my time (and money) was being fully valued. From the moment I would walk into the gym until I left, I was making a huge impact on my health and future. Over six or seven months, I spent between two and six hours at the gym every week. I know for certain that putting in that time gained me years with my kids down the road. Unfortunately I moved out of county and have switched to a new local gym, but I now have a knowledge and skill set to continue on my own. It's no overstatement to say In Shape Roseville changed or even saved my life. Every staff member helped me. Also, every member is nice. There's no awkwardness or feeling fat there. Everyone is super nice and down to earth, all ages and all body types. Special thanks to Carmen, James, Nayel, Eric, the beautiful lady trainer that moved to Nevada and Raymund. Especially for Liz and Alex, I know that I will achieve my fitness goals and live a long healthy life with my family from what you taught me and what you enabled me to prove to myself.

We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. There's been a bit of improvements/changes including adding that new weights pulling rug area, and the removable of the 2 walls that used to be there. That's quite a big change and it opened up the space and the gym looks bigger now even though it is the same size. I did a bunch of lifting with free weights and worked out with my wife, and the kids rode spin bikes. We all had a good time. This is a pretty good location, especially when it's quiet and we almost have the whole place to ourselves. One star knocked off for the water that was lukewarm and even cold at times while I was showering. Not sure why it was inconsistent and not hot.
