This was my letter to Hapco Fence after they "completed" our job. their response was "thank you…read morefor your business". I am writing you to discuss how unsatisfied we are with our recently completed fence. We hired you while you were doing our neighbors fence for the explicit reason to make it look like one, clean continuous fence. While laying out the fence with you, I re-iterated that I wanted to strike the line from the corner of their house to my house to keep it clean on the outside. We even discussed how this would cause my fence to not be even with my pool patio. You initially wanted to put my post slightly closer to the street, to which I specifically said I did not want a small filler piece between the posts. At this point is when you should have told me you would not tie the fences together. I would not have sacrificed the fence being crooked to have a filler piece anyways, which brings me to the biggest thing we are in shock about. A piece of picket stuck to the side of the post and ran in with 3 deck screws to a brand new post is the best, most professional answer you had? It is simply beyond amateur and not at all what we paid for. Also, that your employee ran back and did this after you told me you weren't taking my old fence, while loading up the neighbors fence. I didn't even see that he put that piece in until after you left. To make things even worse, all this is after your employees installed the gate in the entirely wrong position. 1 foot from the house, how could that be misunderstood? What is the miscommunication of 1 foot from the house. We even compromised with you, and allowed you to put the gate much further from the house (which makes the section between house and post much looser, as it is not secured at all and ALREADY FELL OUT). The gate is also still 1-1/2" over the patio, so again, the project looks amateur. The fact that my pole is right next to theirs, and significantly taller is exactly what I did not want to happen in this fence project. I specifically mentioned during my initial estimate that I did not want sections staggered in height. For what it is worth, we had gotten 4 estimates for the fence before we found out the neighbors had given you a deposit and you were over $1000 more then any of our other estimates. When we first got your quote, I thought $3500 for 7 panels and a gate was ridiculous. We even told the neighbors how much more it was and that we were going to use someone else, but ultimately decided to pay the extra money to you because we honestly felt with 35 years experience you were going to give us the best quality and finish possible. What we got was instead amateur, riddled with mistakes and "mis-communication". If you never intended to tie the fences together and would treat as separate jobs you should have told us that from the beginning. Because that is not what we paid you for. How do you intend to fix this?
