Disappointingly overrated. The service is lacking, the environment is not conducive to work, and the coffee is merely decent. Service: There were two employees when I came, neither of which communicated well. To be fair, it was the girl's first day, and was friendly and probably did the best she could. But the guy was unsmiling and muttered when he talked, making it difficult for me to understand what he eventually communicated about the wifi. Working: They stated that the wifi here is not available for customer use. They asked me to use a neighboring business's wifi, but it never permitted me even to load a single web page. It's also important to note that that the environment is another obstacle rather than something to be sought out: It's situated at the entrance of a business building, between the exterior door, a staircase, an elevator, and a closet. They've tried to decorate it like a hipster coffee bar, but functionally it's an echo chamber for human activity, Royal's machines, and the loud music they use to try to cover up the other noise. Coffee: Nothing to write home about. It functions, I suppose, so this place makes an effective alternative to Starbucks. But use it to replace your drive-through experience. If you actually need to sit down and work, your business belongs somewhere else. read more

Even when the Coffee Plantation was there, the Biltmore FP was not a place to get a decent coffee. Then, with even the lackluster Plantation gone, mall employees and visitors alike were left with only Borders and Paradise (*shudders*). Royal is such a wonderful and welcome addition to the Biltmore area. The use of the lobby space leading into the Red Door Spa is very clever, and the coffee bar and seating area itself are typical of Haye's talent for mixing design and functionality. It is the real deal and I look forward to drinking gallons of their delicious brews over the coming years. Roast on, Royal. read more

I went back and tried a suggestion that I was told do... Apparently, if you are in a rush and not planning on to stay any longer then 5min the valet guys will allow you to park at the curb. I quickly went in, grabbed my ice coffee and left with no hassle. I was with my friend (Manny G.) and he thought the coffee trip to Royal was prettttty cool..idk why but he liked it. +1! I am pretty sure its not something the valet guys will allow if its happening on a busy day or rush, so if you time it right the Royal coffee shop could just pull it off to be a "quasi-drive thru cafe" ya? maybe..nevertheless its a sit down coffee place, and it will and should stay that way... Went here with a family member to catch up on events and grab a light night and a caffeine rush. I got a simple double espresso, really strong and was slightly thick. Highly recommend. I also got a double chocolate cookie and it went perfect with the bitterness of the espresso. Place is super clean, kind of echoey, so we sat outside. Nice place to have near my house. They get an A for effort with the pour over coffee, but the roast could be a tad better. Space is clean and hip- next to Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa/Salon. Barista's are friendly. If you are in the Biltmore area, a great little spot to stop into for your java fix. read more

Expected a lot more based on the other reviews. Cappuccino was a little bitter, and I was surprised that their default was to serve it in a paper cup for drinking it there. The barrista was nice, but seemed bored. Cute decor, but so echoy it was tough to have a conversation. Walking down to Paradise Bakery might be a better option for anyone seeking good coffee at the Biltmore. read more

Huge fan of Royal! I have been to both the Royal bar at Union and storefront in the Biltmore. Love their lattes either hot or cold. I prefer the Union location just because of the seating outside is nicer than the other location at the Biltmore. Either location will give you great customer service and excellent coffee creations. read more

I try to stay away from Starbucks whenever I can. For the longest time, the only coffee shop within walking distance from my office was Starbucks. No thanks. A few weeks ago, a co-worker told me about a new place that opened at the Biltmore, which excited me - especially when she mentioned it was another Royal! Already a fan of Royal at the Market, I knew I'd be in for a treat. Not knowing where the shop was located, we parked near Paradise Cafe and walked through the courtyard until we ended up back out on the south side of the shopping center and found the shop on the lower level of the Red Door Salon. The space was clean, bright, and simple. Upbeat (but not obnoxious) music played over the speakers. There were only a couple actual table with chairs but a few benches and many stools were set up on the wall by the bar. The place looked ideal for relaxing, reading, or studying. Two baristas were at the counter and greeted us warmly. I ordered a large cafe au lait and my companions each ordered coffees. We only waited a couple minutes before our hot drinks were ready. Because it was still too warm, I waited a few minutes before tasting. The coffee was good, if not a bit too dark for my liking. It certainly won't stop me from going back, though - I'll just ask for slightly more steamed milk than coffee. As I type this review, I'm kicking myself for not also getting one of the very tasty-looking pastries in the display case. I won't make that mistake next time. I'm looking forward to many happy returns to Royal at the Biltmore. Thanks for making it possible for me to enjoy a quality, non-Starbucks coffee during the work day! read more

I love this place! For coffee in the Biltmore Fashion Park area, this is my new go-to spot. They serve almond milk mochas, which is an automatic +4 stars in my book, and the location is clutch. It's not a terribly large space, but it's adequate for a coffee house. Their furniture is also a bit odd-shaped, but I dig it, so I don't know what that says about me. Hard to find a good artisan coffee place that's not a copy of Starbucks. This is it. The place is small with seating for maybe 10 people. Don't care. Wife and I both had the mocha. Loved it. The coffee was freshly ground by the barista. That definitely made a difference. Plus you can see how the drink is being made. Turned out to be great. Usually, a mocha is just a mocha. This place is inconsistent. First: the coffee is good, the roaster is good at what he does. This review is only true of the biltmore locations. The problem is the baristas. Depending on your barista you will spend more or less for the same cup of coffee. For a large iced latte ive spent as little as 3.17 and as much and 6.50. Sometimes i ask for extra shots to keep the ratio right, sometimes the baristas include them for free. Some baristas dont tamp the espresso, some do. Some pour hot espresso into a plastic cup, and then add milk, some know that plastic melts and pour milk in before boiling coffee. I want to give the place 4-5 stars because of the baristas who are great but i think the shop has a management and training problem. I keep coming back though, i just avoid the people i know are bad. Also seating is a huge issue and parking is annoying. Come here to but coffee, but not to sot and chat with someone. read more

They have more seating now, including outdoors. Even though I previously complained about the parking - it has never been an issue for me. The lot right across usually has heaps of free spaces and if you go for early morning coffee you can sneak a spot right out front by the valets. THEY HAVE ALMOND MILK!! A fantastic little cafe in the bustling Biltmore complex. There's also a pop up window version of Royal within the mall closer to the Allen Edmonds shop. The parking lot is always empty in the morning so it's really easy to find a spot right in front. The baristas give a friendly smile and the coffee is a bit on the bolder side. The hot lattes are not quite as foamy or milky, but it is good when you need a kick to start your morning. I wish the chairs here were a bit more comfortable though. They are rather low and have an odd back shape. My go to drink here is an iced latte with crushed ice! read more

Royal has two locations in the Biltmore. The original location is under the Red Door Spa and next door to Ralph Lauren and Capital Grill. The second location in the Biltmore is at the new Union. I work in the Biltmore area and Royal is a short 5 min walk away. Their coffee is simply amazing! This is how coffee should taste. The Barista's are well trained and know what they are doing. Haze, the owner, has simply gone to great lengths to hire great, talented people. A conversation with the owner or the barista's is just as good as their coffee. The atmosphere is great as well but I wish they has more chairs with backs as opposed to stools and high tables. Other than that, the best coffee house in Phoenix. read more

Royal is a small cafe in Biltmore with limited seating. This places makes customers feel comfortable as I witnessed some patrons playing thier own chess set. While I probably wouldn't study here due to the limited space, it's a nice place to stop by for a quick drink or have an intimate discussion. The service was quick and I have no complaints about the workers. There must be many regulars because at one point our cashier was sitting at a table with people. My wife and I stopped into the Biltmore to go to Sak's. We were craving a coffee and stumbled across this cute coffee place. Loved the aesthetics of it. We walked up to order our coffee's and Christina was working. No hello, no greeting whatsoever. She was chatting with a friend of hers and came up to us after about 30 seconds and asked "what can I get you" no smile, nothing. I love how consistent they are with this beverage, because other coffee shops can be hit or miss depending on the barista who is making it...but not here! So happy I finally tried this place. It's located at the Biltmore Fashion Park and shares an entrance with the Red Door Spa. I studied here a bit while I was waiting for my phone at the apple store and it was just lovely. I got the spicy chai latte and a shortbread cookie, both of which were delicious. The chai was the best I've had in Phoenix. The service was great! The barista, Elizabeth, was so friendly and inviting.
