The team put real thought into every aspect of the experience. There are flowers around the cafe that give it a gentle, unexpected touch. I genuinely regretted not bringing a better camera. But the coffee is the real story. They source specialty beans from different parts of the world and roast in-house on a Primo roaster, which is a hand-built machine that serious roasters invest in. I had a double espresso, something I cannot live without, and it held up to the room. The seating is comfortable and well thought out. There is room for conversation and room to get work done. I ended up staying longer than I planned, which is always the sign of a good spot. They also have a merch area with coffee gear worth browsing, and bags of their roasted coffee available to take home. On the back wall there is a mural that reads, "Making good coffee, good fun." And naturally, the drip coffee is described as "damn fine coffee," in honor of Agent Cooper. The local family who owns the shop lives close enough to ride their bicycles there, and their goal was to preserve the neighborhood atmosphere where baristas know their regulars and people gather to chat over coffee. Having experienced the super-friendly staff firsthand, I'd say they're doing a damn fine job. Note: it's a walk-up coffee window with shaded outdoor seating, rather than a traditional indoor cafe. Plan accordingly, as we live in a city where being outside is not always pleasant. Thankfully the more pleasant weather is right around the corner! They could probably fit some more items in this space for sale but it was a fun store to browse in while we were at Cityscape. The installation at the shop when I was here was Saskia Jordá's Cacerolazo. If you're at Cityscape it's worth a stop since you get a shopping experience and get to see some modern art all in the same place.
