Most people complain about Jim's because of two things: they want all the amenities like you're going to the Bellagio in Las Vegas and they wait on you hand and foot or you have a lot of sensitive people who just because they don't get what they want when they want an exactly how they want it, they complain. All the staff that work there are really cool, they open up really good hours which is 5:00 a.m. and if you can't get your butt into the gym at 5:00 a.m. whose fault is that? I wish they would close a little bit later maybe 11:00 or midnight but that's neither here nor there. It's a huge facility and they have great amenities. Basic but good enough. So in summation I've been in this gym for over a year and I like it a lot and I have no problems with it. So what the heck are you waiting for after reading this? GET UP AND GET IT DONE!

The bathrooms and locker rooms are well-designed and clean, and the co-ed sauna and steam room are a major plus. The filtered water stations are always cold and well-maintained, and the smoothie bar is convenient. The reception staff are always friendly! SweatBox is intense, well-structured, and thoughtfully run. The music and variety keep me coming back. Providing ear plugs and cold eucalyptus towels are the many small touches that go a long way during this high-energy HIIT workout. Coach Gwen and Coach Mike are excellent instructors -- clear, motivating, and attentive to form. There are 3 other class studios and dozens of more fitness classes. I have enjoyed the yoga classes, especially Restorative and Deep Stretch. Chris also runs a great BodyPump class -- strong pacing and consistent energy. Overall, VIDA Ballston combines diverse programming with quality facilities and good service. Yes things break or require maintenance, but the team is constantly communicating this and working to upkeep their facility. Highly recommend!

They have a wide variety of gym equipment and weight, squat racks, etc. they also offer personal training, which I have met a few of the trainers who are super nice and welcoming. It's great to workout at a gym where you are welcomed and get to know the front desk and staff. Overall, would highly recommend.

Only downside: no phone number, email being the only contact option is a little annoying. Other than that, great gym overall!

The trainer I had, I had a free one hour introductory session but he kept acting like he wanted to leave early even though this was my first time at the gym in a while. He kept basically asking "are we done here?" before the hour was up. Also another time I asked if he could quickly show me how to safely use a new machine and he refused saying I had to book a paid session for that. I later got injured on that machine and had a couple of near misses. Also in the steam room it's not obvious where the steam comes out so if you sit in the wrong place you can burn your ankles.

Everything is cleaner, brighter, and much more modern, which makes a huge difference in the overall workout experience. The upgraded equipment is a big highlight, plenty of new machines, well-maintained free weights, and more space so you're not constantly waiting around. The layout is also much more functional now, with designated areas that make it easy to move through your workout without feeling cramped. The staff has been great throughout the transition, friendly, helpful, and clearly invested in making sure members are happy with the changes. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the renovation. If you've been here before, it's definitely worth coming back to check it

Though it sucks that unlike Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym isn't 24hrs. Which is a shame because this place is almost always crowded unless you go before the crack of dawn, which is what I decided to do. I would go in sooner but they don't open until 5am on the weekdays and I have work at 6:30am. I feel that there's an appetite personally to have this gym open 24hrs personally. I do like that there's free parking and compared to the Gold's Gym in Claredon, this location is leagues better. There is also a sauna which is great and there's 3 main floors that offer different options to do your workout. Towels are available but you need to ask front desk for one which feels like a pain. I feel they could just leave the towels somewhere in the locker room but they don't but that seems like an easy fix especially considering that there's a bin for the dirty towels to go.

Honestly the facilities are really nice, plenty of machines and squat racks and cables, the staff is also incredibly nice and helpful. The only reason I'm giving it three stars is because out of all of the golds in the DMV I think the showers at this location are by far the worst ones. Barely give you soap, and have really bad tan curtains that don't even cover the entire shower so even when the curtain is closed people can still see you if they walk by. Unfortunately because of the location I really doubt a lot of people who workout here use the showers so I'm not sure if they'll upgrade them. Everything else was great though!

If it was not for the personal trainer my wife uses, there is a strong possibility we would change to another gym. There are a decent number of machines, free weight stations, etc., but since the location opened (I think 2 years now?) I have not seen one new piece of equipment. Suggestions to management appear to go unnoticed. As for the free weights, they are often scattered amongst all of the machines or stations, and no one seems to ever clean them up. As for managers, I have not seen a single one last more than a month. That is if you can even find one. Currently I have been trying to convert my membership to Silver Sneakers. The front desk personnel say I need to speak with a manager. They also say that they have not seen the current manager for days. Maybe that is why there has been no toilet paper in the restrooms, the hand sanitizers by the front doors have been empty, and I can't make the transition. I did go to the main webpage for DC Gold's Gyms to use the Member Services link (as instructed by someone I spoke with and by the AI operator). What I loved was clicking on it and only getting a Cancel Membership screen. Not a great way to keep your members when the services is to ask for them to cancel. In addition, there is no other way to contact the main owners of these metro gyms on the web page. Are they tired of hearing from their members? Again, other than the lack of management, investment in keeping this gym interesting with new or changed equipment, the people that do work here are great, especially folks like Jay at the front desk and John the personal trainer (the best!). Hopefully this will get the attention of the owners.

Now about the equipment, yes they have anything and everything you could need, but it is not maintained even in teh slightest. not only is it dirty, adjustment knobs are missing so you are grabbing at threads, just everything is super worn down and ill maintained. On top of that, it is just so darn depressing in there. There are TV's lining the walls, but not a single one of them was on. On top of that I am not saying you need to blast music, ut a gym with absolutely nothing playing is painful. Then, it is a 3 floor facility, all the escalators were off, and these are not normal height floor, I would approximate that each flight is equivalent to 2 if not 3 regular floors. Runners -- THIS is your place!…read more I joined MAD this summer for a month trial membership and was impressed with the support, technical and individualized coaching, variety of movements, and early results. I was starting marathon training and was initially hesitant about investing in a strength gym with scheduled classes. How could these types of workouts fit into a distance running training plan? MADabolic Arlington showed me. I cannot speak more highly of Julianne and the coaches at MADabolic Arlington. Julianne provided a clear, 20-week training plan that included MAD workouts, speed/hill workouts, long runs, and rest days. Their team helped me build full-body strength, prevent injuries, build mental discipline and resiliency (5:00 static effort, anyone?!), increase aerobic fitness, improve flexibility and range of motion, relieve stress, find value in rest/active recovery days, improve body composition (including bone density), and feel strong. I saw the results. The past few months helped me to run more than 40 minutes faster than last year's marathon time, with my fastest splits of the race in my last 5K. Without injuries. MAD class 3 days per week and running 2-3 days per week. I was a collegiate heptathlete 20 years ago and I am continually amazed what my body and mind are now capable of. I'm back! -- and post-race, I'm making more gains. Whether you are a seasoned runner or athlete, or pursuing formal strength training for the first time, MADabolic Arlington is the right place to invest in yourself and your fitness goals.
