At 5:30 PM on a Wednesday they had good live entertainment. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw and a draft Lakefront IPA, my father ordered a full slab of ribs, baked potato, garlic bread, and a Sprite Zero. Our server, Ashley, was wonderful even though my father is very hard to please. She was very friendly and attentive. The only complaint we had with the food is the kitchen hid an overly charred half slab of ribs under a beautifully done half slab. My father tried to eat the overly charred half slab but it was inedible. If the 2nd slab would have been as good as the first the dinner would have been worth the price, but $21 for a full slab rib dinner that only half of it is edible is quite high. In the future, we will either not order the ribs or to only order a half slab dinner, that way there are no hidden surprises. read more

Forgot to check in while I was here yesterday. I attended a surprise birthday party. The place was super packed. We had to park in the far away lot. There is not much parking directly around the building. I only saw one handicap spot in front of the building. I didn't have the chance to try any food so I can't comment on that. I needed some water for my father in law to be able to take his pills. I stood at the bar for a long time while others were being helped. I finally had a millisecond to call my order out to the female bartender with long dark hair. She gave me a nasty look and walked away. She did serve my water a few minutes later. I did tip her like I would for alcoholic beverages. Not even a thank you or any verbalizing from her. I understand it is busy, but it isn't nice to ignore people and give nasty looks. Anyway, the live music they have there is nice and that's why two stars. They would get more if employees were nicer to customers. If you are not a regular, do not expect friendly service. I don't think I will be going back. read more

I haven't been here since the renovations happened, I tried it out for their Saturday morning breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. Set up inside looks like it would probably be a great place to go watch a band without being in a huge venue. Bloody marys were good and the food was excellent. Our server was great and paid a lot of attention to detail. Little things like that go along ways. I would recommend the "early bird and the worm" as an entrée in the morning, it really hit the spot. read more

I had been here once before and the service was slow at best. However, my experience on Labor Day was extremely dissatisfying. I called ahead around 3pm to double check to see if they were open. Even asked how late they would be open. The lady was very friendly and said they'd be open until 11pm tonight. I get to the restaurant about 7pm and the restaurant is closed! Apparently the owner decided there weren't enough people in the middle of the day and shut the place down for the day. I've never known a bar to do that! Long story short, I had to spend a ton of additional time finding a place that was open and drove 15min away just to get something to eat and drink. I had come from 1/2 hour away so this made it even more frustrating. read more

Sat down at 4:15 on a Friday on the patio and did not even get acknowledged that we were there. Nothing. If I was the management group, I would be embarrassed. We left at 5 :00 pm. Ridiculous. I went to Route 20 for the third or fourth time last week for breakfast and if you don't go you are missing out! The breakfast was outstanding!!! I had the everything but the Koop without the potatoes (I'm low carbing it) and it was great! The service has been wonderful every time I have been there! The waitress was very engaging and fun with a little sarcastic wit which I enjoyed. We actually went back after our round of golf and had lunch which was also very good. So all in all I would recommend the place for what ever you like! read more

I remember when the place was called Spoke's, The food was good, the service was very good and the prices were extremely reasonable. NOW, the place is all changed, remodeling being done, DARK inside, prices are HIGH, very chilly inside for winter. Menu looked ok. I was there at 1130a meeting a girlfriend and we waited 40 min for our lunch which was a bowl of soup for her and side of hot veggies and a cold veggie wrap and fries for me. The server said they take the orders in which they come in yet, tables came in after us who had burgers and fries were getting their food before our simple non cooked meals! The server continued to make excuses and when I left she did so gain saying how they were backed up in the kitchen. My husband and I stopped in a few months ago for dinner and it was way before the band was going to play, we stated we are here to eat and leave. No desire to see the band, we were told we had to purchase wrist bands, I said we are NOT staying and the owner came over and said well we can cut you a deal on the price! I said it's like 1.5 hours before your band will play so we WILL be gone I an assure you of that. He said I can do a buy one get one free on the cover charge. I said AGAIN we are not staying for the band! He insisted we pay, so we left and did not even try to have dinner. read more

Friendly service & good beer on tap. Food was "meh"... Wasn't bad, but wasn't good either. "Decent" would be the word to describe the grub. If you're looking for something right off the highway it's not a bad choice. I probably wouldn't go back unless I needed to meet someone right off the highway for lunch or something. read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to check out this place for Trivia night because we heard it was fun. We walked in and stood there for 7 mins until finally I asked if we could be seated. They told us to find a table, which there was one.. in the corner... in the dark. We sat there for 15 mins until I flagged a woman down for a drink list. She was not the friendliest person, but understood she probably had a long day. Eventually she came back and told us one of the two beers were not available anymore. We got our beers and they were half cold, half warm; either the taps are bad or the beer was sitting out for a while. We asked the trivia gentleman if we could play trivia, we were a little lost since it was our first time. He said sure and did not give us any rules and details how this worked. Eventually we caught on by ourselves, in the corner table. The man in charge had a bad humor and was rather rude with some people (don't know if that is his normal, okay personality). No one asked if we wanted another drink for the next hour. We left before trivia before it was done and did not leave the best tip. The food smelled delicious, but we did not eat. We might come back for food, but that is debatable. Everyone looked happy with their food, but because we only came for trivia and drinks our service was awful. read more

As a music venue I give it 5 stars and for food I also give it 5 stars. I have gone for the last 2 weekends to here some amazing bands and the acoustics are phenomenal. I ordered a burger and it was delicious, can't go wrong. I have to rate the services as a 3 at this time they are new and trying to work out the kinks but the service is slow for drink service. I will rerate it after awhile lots of new employees trying to get into the routine. So just be patient and make sure you have the time and arent in a hurry. Sit back enjoy the music and go with the flow, and it will be all right. read more

We are visiting from Phoenix AZ and on our way out of Milwaukee i yelp restaurants, and we came across this place we where pleasantly surprise the food was good and the service was acceptable. i was unable to give 5 stars for the following reasons. server was ok but seemed annoyed we were there. i will say she was prompt and courteous, (bare minimum) but we where 1 of only 2 tables in the whole place. Next on of the things that cause them not to get 5 starts was, we got was the fried green bean appetizer and the dip it came with was less than an ounce so i ask for more and was charged .75 for even less than what i got the first time. same thing happen with a salad serviced at our table. it is kind of a shame makes you feel like you just order off of the $1 menu at McDonalds. i will say there fish sandwich was plentiful and tasty. read more

Was there to see Bella Cain. Band was good but they jammed to many people in a small space. In my opinion they couldn't have been legal with the fire marshal. They also had a number of exits blocked. Had there been a fire there's no way everyone would have gotten out. All in the name of making a buck. The security guards were a bit jumpy, and quick to act like they were working for the FBI. Here to perform on their stage once again, and dinner there was part of the plan. I ordered a TALL Scotch Old Fashioned (and dontcha just Love the civilized way you can order a Yock in Wisco? TALL! and they MEAN it!) a Bowl of the Chilli and a Roast Beef on a Pretzel Roll, The Chilli was mean bowl of Red, mostly meat with a few beans, Texas Style. I had them add raw chopped onions but NO cheese. I think Cheese on Chilli (Except for Cincinnati style) is Blasphemy. The Brew had a nice easy burn-nothing drastic, but what REALLY got my tastebuds going was the nice swipe of sweet rippling through. Not enough to be cloying, but a welcome balancer to the Chile Pepper kick. Halfway through the bowl, I kinda wished I had swung with a nice Hoppy Ale, 'cos that would have put a nice bow on the Chilli. The Roast Beef on Pretzel had a good load of tasty meat, a little schmear of Mayo, served cold. The Preztel Bun was WAY fresh and of supreme quality. Looking back, the Old Fashioned was VERY well made, too. Server Brittany was right on the ball. I'm going to throw another star, 'cos the quality was WAY up there this time. And if any of you have any cognitive dissonance believing I'm kissing this place's ass, 'cos I had played there as an artist and wish for a return trip, think again. I ain't Elton John, but suffice it to say, I don't need to suck up to anyone. And we paid for the food and booze. There's a very famous old-line Resto/Roadhouse/Concert venue a few miles South of this place on I-41, whose quality, I believe, has been eclipsed by the Outhouse. Get off on Exit 333 and go west a few blocks when you're transversing 'twixt Greater Chicago and Milwaukee. Then Stop at the Gas Station just East (On the other side of the Culvers) and pick up an O & H Kringle to take home!! read more

Quite simply a must eat at place. I have eaten here about 10 times and any time I am in the area it is a must for lunch. The tenderloin sandwich is a life changing experience IMHO, the bread it comes on is perfect and the meat just falls apart. The sour cream and chive fries are incredible too and Kimmi is a great server as well! My wife has gotten tired of hearing me rave about this place and so I finally took her. We have been here multiple times. We met yesterday morning to have breakfast on the patio (social distancing AND fresh air). Started out with this young smiling happy waitress which set the mood. I chose chicken and waffles because I have never had it and it sounded sinfully delicious--who doesnt love fried chicken?? It comes with 'ygbkm' bacon---(You Gotta Be Kidding Me) thick deep fried stips of pure pork Heaven!! THe chicken was so good, crispy & juicy!! The waffle was the BEST WAFFLE I have ever eaten!!! Hot, crispy on the outside, soft and slighty sweet on the inside ---I could not stop raving about this meal. Anytime we go for breakfast, this will be my first choice. read more

This place is clearly needs to make money! Food is way overpriced for typical bar food. There are way too many items on the menu to choose from. Keep it simple and lower your prices. They will up charge you for ketchup and mayo. The bar it self is not laid properly for bands. The bar area is in a completely different area away from the stage. So sitting there you don't see the show. The stage area lacks service. There is none!!! Jack & coke was 3.oo until the band started, then went to 7.50 at 8:30. Same with beer. It's clear the owners put their money into getting bands to play, and no don't care about service or customers. The 1 star I gave was for their outdoor patio. But again, the owners put money where it is not needed. Call me and I will tell you how to get your bar under control. And show you where your money is being wasted. read more

We stopped Sun Feb 11th around 11am for breakfast as we have had breakfast here a few times prior. Food is usually pretty good and service isn't too bad either, however this time not so much. We ordered coffee and tea which came promptly however waited and waited for refills. We then ordered omelets and waited, and waited and waited. When the food arrived it was cold, and unappealing. Cheese was coagulated and the only thing that was somewhat warm was the plate. We called the server over and explained that the food was cold and she seemed to not understand. I suspect the food was left under the warming lights for way too long which explained the slow service. She took it away and then brought it back within 5 minutes which was amazing, however they didn't re-fire it, they simply micro-waved it. That did not help the toast or the hash-browns or for that matter the eggs. The food wasn't too bad and had good flavor but cold eggs are no bueno. We now were not happy however the shift manager came over and apologized and offered to re-fire the food which we opted not too as it was getting late by now. She offered to take it off the bill. I did NOT expect to have the food taken off the bill as we managed to eat some of it. I was very impressed with the way she handled the situation. It was nice to have a business that understood what it takes to save the situation. We have been there to see shows and enjoy the place and the vibe so its nice to know that we feel we can go back and try again! read more

5/8/2018 Went with a friend to get a quick something to eat, with quick being the operative word. It was around 7 pm. waited forever for a waitress, and then waited for our sodas, and waited more to get our order taken. Ordered 2 bowls of soup and chesses curds. At the 1 hour mark we were told that it would be a bit yet for our food because of a big party. I understand the big party BUT 2 bowls of soup could have been brought out while waiting for the big party to be served, and we could have been asked if we wanted to wait for the cheese curds. NONE of that was done. Went inside to say we were leaving and to cancel our order, and after all of our inconvenience was still charged 4 dollars for our 2 sodas. Not sure I will be returning. I ate here Sunday night. We had the route 20 wings as an appetizer. Very good bbq-y type sauce. I got the ribeye sandwich ordered medium rare. When I received it, I thought it looked too thin to possibley be medium rare, but it was, and it was perfect. Great service and our beer was great and not skunky. We'll be back. read more

I want to like the Route 20 Outhouse, but it just won't let me. I've been there twice. Once this last weekend and about six months prior. And had a similar type of experience both times. First off, I'd like to say that the food is good and superficially, the look of the place is nice. When I was there this weekend they had a good blues trio that played while we ate (during dinner hours). The problem with the Outhouse is its service. The first time I went there, the building was half finished and the waitress was unhelpful. I knew that the place was new (to the current owner) and figured that the experience and unfinished look of the place were due to that. However, six months later, there is no excuse. I get that it is suppose to have the rough hewn, wood look of an outhouse, but random bits of unfinished ceiling and exposed pipes are unsightly and gross. This weekend we ordered the all you can eat fish and the bison burger from a dry, unhelpful, down to business waitress. Both were tasty. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The fish was crunchy (panko crusted) with an excellent tartar sauce. The problem was the service. The problems started (aside from the no-nonsense demeanor of the waitress) when my girlfriend and I each wanted to try each other's dishes. I gave a piece of fish (1 of 2) and she gave me half of her burger. When I double checked that the fish was in fact all you can eat and requested more fish (after consuming most of what I had been given) I was greeted with a "you're not supposed to share it" from the waitress who then walked away. She later returned explaining that because we each wanted to try the other's dish that she wasn't supposed to give me more fish and that the manager was angry that she was doing so. Interestingly enough, this manager never actually came out to talk to us. She then proceeded to explain to us that that their policy that when you order that dish it is "only your dish". Now if we had only ordered one all-you-can-eat meal between the two of us and expected to share it I could see that being a problem because that would be abusing the system. However, here, that was not the situation. Both of us had ordered full priced entrees and wanted to taste each other's food. I ordered one additional serving of fish (which I would have either way) and nothing more. I can see how if I had ordered many additional orders and we had both consumed them that would be a problem, but here that simply wasn't the case. As a result I will not be returning and would suggest that others look elsewhere. There are plenty of places in the area that serve similar food in a better environment and with better service. read more
