I want to like the Route 20 Outhouse, but it just won't let me. I've been there twice. Once this last weekend and about six months prior. And had a similar type of experience both times. First off, I'd like to say that the food is good and superficially, the look of the place is nice. When I was there this weekend they had a good blues trio that played while we ate (during dinner hours). The problem with the Outhouse is its service. The first time I went there, the building was half finished and the waitress was unhelpful. I knew that the place was new (to the current owner) and figured that the experience and unfinished look of the place were due to that. However, six months later, there is no excuse. I get that it is suppose to have the rough hewn, wood look of an outhouse, but random bits of unfinished ceiling and exposed pipes are unsightly and gross. This weekend we ordered the all you can eat fish and the bison burger from a dry, unhelpful, down to business waitress. Both were tasty. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The fish was crunchy (panko crusted) with an excellent tartar sauce. The problem was the service. The problems started (aside from the no-nonsense demeanor of the waitress) when my girlfriend and I each wanted to try each other's dishes. I gave a piece of fish (1 of 2) and she gave me half of her burger. When I double checked that the fish was in fact all you can eat and requested more fish (after consuming most of what I had been given) I was greeted with a "you're not supposed to share it" from the waitress who then walked away. She later returned explaining that because we each wanted to try the other's dish that she wasn't supposed to give me more fish and that the manager was angry that she was doing so. Interestingly enough, this manager never actually came out to talk to us. She then proceeded to explain to us that that their policy that when you order that dish it is "only your dish". Now if we had only ordered one all-you-can-eat meal between the two of us and expected to share it I could see that being a problem because that would be abusing the system. However, here, that was not the situation. Both of us had ordered full priced entrees and wanted to taste each other's food. I ordered one additional serving of fish (which I would have either way) and nothing more. I can see how if I had ordered many additional orders and we had both consumed them that would be a problem, but here that simply wasn't the case. As a result I will not be returning and would suggest that others look elsewhere. There are plenty of places in the area that serve similar food in a better environment and with better service. read more

This is a great venue to see bands. You can't go wrong with a Philly, cheeseburger, chicken fingers or prime rib. Great choice of beer. Bar staff is wonderful. Rated a 3 because they take the bars tools and the hostess was a "B"! Management clearly doesn't care about the customer, taking chairs away 2+ hours before a show. read more

We stopped Sun Feb 11th around 11am for breakfast as we have had breakfast here a few times prior. Food is usually pretty good and service isn't too bad either, however this time not so much. We ordered coffee and tea which came promptly however waited and waited for refills. We then ordered omelets and waited, and waited and waited. When the food arrived it was cold, and unappealing. Cheese was coagulated and the only thing that was somewhat warm was the plate. We called the server over and explained that the food was cold and she seemed to not understand. I suspect the food was left under the warming lights for way too long which explained the slow service. She took it away and then brought it back within 5 minutes which was amazing, however they didn't re-fire it, they simply micro-waved it. That did not help the toast or the hash-browns or for that matter the eggs. The food wasn't too bad and had good flavor but cold eggs are no bueno. We now were not happy however the shift manager came over and apologized and offered to re-fire the food which we opted not too as it was getting late by now. She offered to take it off the bill. I did NOT expect to have the food taken off the bill as we managed to eat some of it. I was very impressed with the way she handled the situation. It was nice to have a business that understood what it takes to save the situation. We have been there to see shows and enjoy the place and the vibe so its nice to know that we feel we can go back and try again! read more

5/8/2018 Went with a friend to get a quick something to eat, with quick being the operative word. It was around 7 pm. waited forever for a waitress, and then waited for our sodas, and waited more to get our order taken. Ordered 2 bowls of soup and chesses curds. At the 1 hour mark we were told that it would be a bit yet for our food because of a big party. I understand the big party BUT 2 bowls of soup could have been brought out while waiting for the big party to be served, and we could have been asked if we wanted to wait for the cheese curds. NONE of that was done. Went inside to say we were leaving and to cancel our order, and after all of our inconvenience was still charged 4 dollars for our 2 sodas. Not sure I will be returning. Sad to lose business over $4. Should have walked over to Culvers for something to eat. I live locally and not a fan of being treated badly. Janey Jane read more

I ate here Sunday night. We had the route 20 wings as an appetizer. Very good bbq-y type sauce. I got the ribeye sandwich ordered medium rare. When I received it, I thought it looked too thin to possibley be medium rare, but it was, and it was perfect. Great service and our beer was great and not skunky. We'll be back. read more

Its a great atmosphere to party and catch a band on the weekends, but the service in the dinning area is marginal to poor and the prices are pretty steep. They charge for anything extra on a burger (yes even mayo) which agitates me. read more

I'm a truck driver and couldn't eat to the blasting Fox News channel at the Petro next door so I tried here. The service and food were fantastic! I had Babyback ribs which came with fries and probably the best side salad ive had in a while, cucumbers, shaved carrots, cheese, broccoli, croutons and an excellent chunky bleu cheese dressing. I had Godiva cheese cake for desert and it was so good I took another piece to go for breakfast. My wife doesn't travel with me ;-) . Highly recommended by a guy who knows good food! I've tried several fish fry's in the Milwaukee area and this has been the best, so far. I love that you have the option of how you want the fish prepared (obviously it was made for us on premises). Had the battered cod and my boyfriend had the battered perch. Very tasty (and good coleslaw)! Michelle was an awesome server and made the experience that much better. I was going to give this place a 4 star but after reconsidering our great our service was and how nice/awesome the bar is I'm going to give it a 5 star. The food was better than average but the environment made me overlook that. It is a amazing place to watch sports especially on their HUGE projection screen. My wife and I didn't even get to experience this bar at night, we went there during lunch time. I also saw a very attractive patio bar which I'm a huge fan of. I don't live in the area but do visit my brother-in-law up there and will make sure we go back every time we are in town. read more

We stopped here on the way home from Sheboygan Falls. Initially, I didn't like the look of it. It was maybe 11:45 or so and the parking lot was empty (to the point that I wasn't sure if it was even open) Long story short, the waitresses were decent enough I guess. The food was very good. I had sour cream & chives flavored French fries that were outstanding. The tenderloin sandwich was incredible as well, but a little small piece of meat on a rather large bun. We weren't rushed out or anything, we ate slowly and watched some of the Olympics on the giant projector screen. I'd go back for the fries for sure. read more

Service was decent. Overall staff was pleasant. Not really a restaurant as much as a venue. Just high and low top tables. No booths. Food was so so. Sandwiches were very small but prices weren't exorbitant. Side salad good but at $2 more. Chili very sugary. Asked for no tomato and it came on sandwich anyhow. And salad has Tiny chopped tomatoes so ask if you don't want them or face the tough task of picking them off slowly. Only about 1 tsp of dressing provided. Side salad is tiny. Fries tasted like frozen ones and were very thick crinkle cut. I prefer crispy. One wine was undrinkable. Possibly vinegar from being in open bottle too long. (This is mainly a beer joint.) Told server it was terrible. Especially at $7. Received a blank stare. Finally asked for something to replace it. That was finally accommodated. Server divided bill. Check included a soda that no one at our table ordered. Not sure how that happened but it was fixed. I probably wouldn't return or if I did, I'd go for breakfast or get a burger considering portion size of the sandwiches. Very small. A hungry diner would be left unsatisfied. read more

I liked what they had done with the place. Has an older feel with newer modern amenities. Drinks were fair prices (not cheap bar prices but not expensive restaurant prices) the atmosphere was enjoyable and I like what they did with the outside. read more

I took my kids here for breakfast on Saturday morning 10/21/17 around 9am. Food is always good, that is never the issue. Kids both got pancakes along with the bacon. I had the Early Bird & the Worm. Everything was delicious. The problem is always with the service. They are real slow here. We were seated at the same time as a large group of 8 and before another larger group of about 6-7. We already knew what we wanted so when the waitress came to get our drink order, we ordered our food at the same time to get our order in before the large group. After waiting for quite a while, our waitress started bringing out the orders for the 2 large groups. She stopped over and apologized for the wait saying there were 2 large groups ahead of us, but this wasn't the case as our orders were in well before either group. The other issue I have with this place is the flies. Everytime we eat here, we are constantly swatting flies which was the case again on Saturday. Nothing is more irritating that trying to eat while you constantly have flies buzzing around you. Waitress was not very friendly either. read more

Stopped there yesterday for fish. My husband and I both ordered Walleye. Mine was Panko breaded and my husbands battered. Both were very fishy. I peeled my breading away and saw the Fish skin was still on the fish. That would explain the fishy taste. My sons cheeseburger was ordered medium and came out well done and charred. Cheese curds were ok. Service was great. Probably won't be back. At least for fish. read more

This place is a great place to get a drink. Clean, friendly environment. Drinks can be pricy and the food is too. They don't have a huge menu, but the food they do serve is quality and fresh. I haven't attended any of their concerts, but my friends insist it's a Hell of a time. read more

Today was the second round of March Maddiness, the girls couldn't give us sound for the game, on there BIG screen TV (Other coustmers left) unorganized, horrible service,( waitress told us to just go to the bar) service yourself.
