Platinum Auto Sales - my brake pad two months into driving the car

Platinum Auto Sales

I needed a car for my one of my son's. I went to Platinum Auto Sales on a recommendation of one of…read moremy own customers. They raved about the experience they had with Larry (owner) and his wife Melissa. Larry was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and spent the time to listen to my needs. If your are use to pushy car salesmen you wont find that here. I would give you guys 10 STARS if Yelp would allow it. A great family owned, HONEST and fair priced establishment!!!! Thank you Larry & Melissa my son loves his car!!!

lied about replacing brake pads (including fraudulent receipts, two months into driving old pads…read moreflew off, see attached picture), was told that they didn't have to replace the rotors because the shaking from them was "the pads adjusting to the rotors" (quite literally not how that works), sold me a car with a cracked rear differential and kept the car almost my entire warranty to "replace my EVAP" so i wouldn't notice (ended up costing $3k), butt dialed me and could hear them calling me an idiot and saying i don't know what im talking about simply for requesting maintenance reports in farsi thinking i wouldn't understand, broke my rear suspension because they didn't screw in a bolt properly, incorrectly replaced the front bumper (didn't even put clips in) breaking the headlight and fog light assemblies AND a cracked grill, oh yeah, and still refused to give me a maintenance report. i cannot stress this enough, DO NOT GO HERE. they will lie, steal, cheat, and disrespect you.

Our experience with Ron Bouchard has so far been positive. They are somewhat typical as far as dealerships. Sales is not too pushy, but as with any dealership, they make money on sales, upgrades, and service and as such have been predicable with their tactics. They confidently declare they are different from other dealers because they don't charge above sticker price, which appears to be true, but I wouldn't consider it a selling point. While I appreciate not paying above sticker, I would never pay above sticker so this doesn't help much. While I appreciate the straight forward pricing and I would love to believe that they are better than other dealers, anytime someone tells me to trust them, it sets off a bunch of alarms in my head and I worry that if they have to tell me that, instead of discovering that on my own, is it true? Either way, the vehicle is absolutely amazing and we truly love it. I can't say it enough, we LOVE OUR KIA! We also have a Porsche Cayenne and the Kia is as good or better than the Porsche. Nonetheless, the sales process is standard and the honesty/knowledge/promises are as always, questionable. With all that said, would I return to Ron Bouchard Kia? Yes, more for the quality of the vehicle and the convenience of the dealer location.

Inept, unresponsive and overpriced…read more I brought my 2023 Kia Sorento in because it intermittently fails to restart after the automatic stop/start feature shuts the engine off at a traffic light. When this happens, shifting to Park and pressing the start button does nothing--the car stays silent. To get it running again, I have to exit and lock/unlock the vehicle. In the 85,000 miles I've driven, I have never experienced this problem during a normal start after parking. It only happens following an automatic stop/start shutdown. A previous battery replacement resolved the issue for about eight months before it returned. The dealership charged $400 for diagnosis and recommended a $1,300 starter replacement, citing observed surface corrosion on the starter grounding nut. Their recommendation does not fit the failure profile considering it only occurs during an auto-shutoff event. The inspection report provided very little detail about the testing performed or how the findings supported replacing the starter. I sent follow-up questions asking what tests were performed, whether Kia's proprietary diagnostic system had been used to check relevant modules for stored faults, and how they connected the corrosion to a failure that occurs exclusively after automatic shutdown. I wanted a clear explanation before authorizing a $1,300 repair. My questions have gone unanswered for 2 weeks, I have called 6 times over that span and every single time I have been told that I will get a call or email back with answers and have to date received nothing. Its apparent that they put very little effort into the debug and wanted to collect on an overpriced mechanical fix that is likely unnecessary based on the failure modes provided to them. They failed to use the only proprietary debug tool they have that would provide pertinent details on the issue that you can't get from a non-dealership mechanic. When pushed for details they went unresponsive. I still have no clear explanation of the findings or why the proposed repair is justified. Six follow-up calls should not be necessary to get basic questions answered--and they still haven't been.

Willards Auto Service and Sale

Finding a quality, reasonable car mechanic can be an immensely daunting experience. I have owned…read morefive cars in my lifetime thus far and I have a fundamental knowledge base when it comes to cars. Couple that with experiences at unsavory auto shops over the years, I tend to be well-versed in what to look for, what to ask, and know when the proverbial wool is being pulled over my eyes. I recently went to another auto shop because I received a coupon for a heavy discount on an oil change and the usually "multi-point inspection" - something my car needed so not having a regular mechanic and steering away from the "chains", I decided to use the coupon instead of going to the dealer. The quick story is the previous shop told me I needed front brake pads (which I knew). However they said it was imminent as the pads were low. I asked, "How low?" The quote was I had 6mm left and the rotors were very rusty. Pads generally can wait until there's about 2mm or so left. Since I drive 95% highway, I was not concerned about pads right now and could get away with driving a few more months. Rotors get rusty, but I wasn't experiencing any vibration, noise, or longer stopping times, plus the pads obviously weren't being worn down fast (they were 4 years old) so I opt'ed not to have any brake work done. Certainly not at the quote of $445. While that experience was eye opening in terms of what they were trying to tell me my car needed at exorbitant pricing, I asked around my inner circle for recommendations on a car mechanic. My inquires led me to Willard's. I bought my own brake pads (for less than $50) and called Willard's to see if they would put them on for me. I made no mention of the rotors. I wanted to see what they find. I called and spoke with Larry, the owner, and setup an appointment. When I arrived (you have to walk around back, not the front door), I met Larry whom I liked immediately. He's very pleasant, no frills, no BS. He offered to drive me anywhere I needed to go, even home! I said I could wait and asked for an estimate. He said he'd shuffle my car to the front as it's a quicker job and so I'm not kept waiting. That's great! In about 25 minutes, Larry comes around the front counter with my rotors. They were indeed rusted and grooved, but Larry explained and showed me why they should be replaced (being somewhat savvy, I knew already). I really liked that he came out with the rotors and explained it all. I went ahead and asked for the rotors to be replaced too. In about an hour or so, my car was ready. My own pads were on, new rotors, and they even cleaned and lubed the caliper sliders, plus changed the brake fluid! The cost after tax? $216.71! That is a savings of $228.29 based on the other shop's quote! My car now stops on a dime and I feel better my work was done by an honest mechanic. Larry is also an Army veteran, which resonates with me as I whole-heartedly support veterans in anyway I can, so knowing I wasn't getting screwed and supporting a local business owned by a veteran really made me day. If you need a mechanic who's honest, available (open Saturdays!), and does great work, please, please call Willard's. I don't give out 5 stars often, but when I do, it's for a reason. Cars are expensive, but quality repairs don't have to be as exemplified by Willard's.
