I've been on the hunt for an awesome decaf this place delivered. Also, they have some great syrup options and we really liked their Done Well latte. The molasses was a great touch. Thank you guys so much. Would definitely come back when we're in the area.

My wife and I stumbled into this place by chance. It's on a soft corner in a non-descript corner of St. Paul. You could easily drive right by Roundtable Coffee Works and not give it a second thought - and you'd be missing out. GOOD: * Least pretentious coffee shop I've ever experienced. Menu is short and atmosphere is extremely low key. The dining area is just two tables next to a roasting machine. The counter guy we had was extremely chill. * The coffee here is excellent! If what you are looking for is a basic, high quality cup of coffee, this is the place. BAD: I really can't find anything wrong with this place. If you have a big posse with you or are looking for other coffeehouse staples, like a folk guitar, tempting pastries, and the ambiance of a lot of people on their laptops, I guess you can go to Spyhouse and drink their weak hipster fluid. Roundtable is closed on Sundays. I plan to go there on most any other day that I am in the area.

Roundtable serves smooth strong coffee in a bright, calm location on the corner of Raymond and Territorial. It is staffed by the owner, Shawn, and some equally agreeable young men. You get fine service and great coffee. I only wish it was open seven days a week!

Outstanding! This place is a local coffee roaster but the owner will sell you a brilliant cup of it, which is why I visit. The latte is one of the best I've had in the area. There is a bar with several spots to sit, but the store is pretty minimalist so I usually get it to go. Can't rave enough about the quality I've had here.

    Just good ole' coffee.

I love this No Frills coffee shop. It's the perfect place to get quality coffee for what feels like a steal. I love grabbing a quick americano from time to time here when I'm passing through the area. The space has two tables with benches that is perfect to read a magazine for a bit or check some emails. Add it to your list. It's a beautiful space that doesn't need the gimmicks because the staff, coffee, and overall aesthetics makes it a fun place to stop by.

    Note the specialized menu.

Both the hot and iced coffee were well done and affordable. People were nice and cheerful! Building and atmosphere were fun.

Excellent coffee, a few interesting flavor combinations to offer too. I really enjoyed the cold brew with orange and chicory!

I got a Done Well with oat milk & it was super tasty; the cardamom made the flavor rich without being overpowering.

The atmosphere is very cool and laidback, there's plenty of open space and seating options with outlets close by. The decor is really fun and eclectic as well. I'm more of a chai latte person than a coffee person, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that they carry Chiya Chai from Namaste Cafe. I love being able to support multiple local businesses and find it really cool when places collaborate like that. The barista was also very nice and welcoming and did not seem bothered at all by me asking about their chai supplier. My husband tried their iced americano with oat milk and caramel and thought it was really good as well. I definitely would love to come back sometime soon and hang out.

There was yoga taking place out front and there were tons of people setting up tables for a vintage/ second hand market that was set to start at noon. I asked what time the market would open, and one of the vendors said "noon, but no one would be upset if you came in early". It was only 10:30, so I thought that was so nice of her to say that. Just overall a cool, welcoming vibe where it just felt like a great community space that people could have a good time.

The soaring industrial ceilings, massive windows pouring in natural light, dark wood shelving, plants everywhere, books, artwork, vintage decor, and incredible lighting somehow make the whole place feel both grand and peaceful. It's the kind of space where you immediately want to cancel your plans and spend the entire afternoon reading, working, or simply existing. Every direction you look feels thoughtfully designed. One thing I couldn't find online beforehand was whether there would be places to plug in my laptop. Thankfully, there are plenty of outlets, making it a fantastic place to work. Even better, despite its size, the atmosphere stays calm and quiet. It never felt loud or chaotic. The drinks were excellent. I tried the Lime Creamsicle Iced Matcha and later ordered a hot matcha, complete with a beautiful heart poured into the milk. I especially appreciated that they use what tasted like genuine, high-quality matcha rather than the overly sweet, filler-heavy mixes that so many coffee shops rely on. You can absolutely taste the difference. I also picked up two pastries: an artichoke and cheese croissant (I think it was Gouda?) and the coffee cake. Both were delicious, but that coffee cake deserves its own paragraph. It was huge, incredibly moist and rich, and served in a large paper liner almost like an oversized cupcake. I'd happily go back just for that. If I had one wish, it would simply be for the menu to match the creativity of the space. The coffee, tea, and espresso selections felt a bit limited considering how unique everything else is. This seems like the perfect place to experiment with fun specialty drinks and elevated touches. Imagine pink peppercorn on a cortado, mint dust on a cappuccino, unique flavored cold foams, rotating seasonal teas, or other creative finishes. The environment practically begs for a menu that's just as imaginative. The staff interaction was fine but didn't really stand out. When I asked whether they recommended the Lime Creamsicle Matcha, the response was basically, "I mean... it tastes like a lime creamsicle." It wasn't unfriendly, just not especially engaging. The prices are definitely on the higher end, but between the stunning atmosphere, quality ingredients, and excellent pastries, I'd happily return. Backstory isn't just somewhere to grab coffee. It's somewhere you want to linger. If you're looking for one of the most beautiful, calming coffee shops in Minneapolis, this belongs at the top of your list.

We rolled in a little before 1:00 PM and had no trouble finding easy street parking (huge win!). The vibe inside? Mixed. While the space was cute, relaxed and inviting, the service was... not so much. The guy at the front counter barely looked up from his screen, and let's just say, enthusiasm wasn't on the menu. Definitely not the warm welcome we hoped for and very unfortunate. BUT--shoutout to my bestie for treating us to a coffee date, because the drinks were solid. I had the piña colada cold brew, which was super sweet at first, but after a quick stir, it hit just right. My bestie went with the strawberries & cream cold brew and a matcha lemonade. Both were surprisingly good, but the matcha lemonade really stood out to me; so refreshing and unique. All in all, Backstory was a convenient and tasty pre-concert stop. If the service matched the drinks, this would've easily been a 5-star visit.
