I make a point to stop in here every trip to Bend. Went in on a Friday and an employee asked if I would be in town the following day bc it was Independent Bookstore Day. They held my little stack of books for me to come back for the event. They were so nice and the event was so fun!

Cute little bookstore. There is one section where they have a collection of books with beautiful covers and man I'm a sucker for that (not judging a book by its cover doesn't jive with me). There is a cafe attached to the bookstore too. What really impressed me: the stack of books under the tables for the cashier. I wonder if they did that on their own.

This is just the perfect spot. We live in NWX so this location is great for finding or ordering a book. Also excellent to just browse and hang out and find something that interests you. They offer up food and coffee as well, all good local options. Roundabout Books is welcoming to just enjoy comfortable seating and open to bringing in your laptop to do some quick work or just relax and watch the world go by. This is also an excellent meeting a friend for coffee location but a little small for larger groups. Lots to do in the area, so if you're not familiar with Bend, lots of great food and shopping options around there but for sure visit Roundabout and buy some stuff, we want them in the neighborhood forever.

Great little bookstore! They have a great coffee menu and very put together selection of books to choose from. It was my first time in the store as I was attending a Book Launch event for the Central Oregon Book Project. I recommend checking out their website for ongoing events or watching previous events on their YouTube channel. Also, side note: Friendly staff, talked me into buying more books than I intended when I initially stepped foot inside... so, beware of that. ;)

Comfortable, friendly, and well stocked! Helpful (but not overbearing) staff, yummy tea, coffee, and treats at the café and a pleasant space filled with book gems. Not just the bestsellers but also worthwhile back list you will never find elsewhere. If they don't have what you want, they can have a large selection ordered in, often in two or three days. Beat that, Amazon! read more

One visit and it is a favorite! The staff was friendly and helpful. The selection of books was excellent--I keep a list of "must finds" on my phone and Roundabout Books had most of them! This store is well worth a drive even if you are not in NW Bend. You will not be disappointed! read more

We have a great new independent bookstore in Bend! I'm a voracious reader in several genres and love the selection of titles at Roundabout Books. Before Roundabout came I was (reluctantly) forced to check out the big chain bookstore, especially for children's and YA books (unavailable at the other independent bookstore in town), creative nonfiction, and graphic nonfiction. Roundabout has it all. Plus a sweet little cafe with comfortable chairs, tea, coffee, wine, and beer at the back. Friendly staff and a variety of book clubs and other events, too. read more

Excellent choices. The way the store is organized makes it easy to find your genre. I love sitting and reading a book, drinking coffee while looking out to the forest. I recommend for locals to check out this gem in the thick of the neighborhood. read more

This is a fantastic book shop, independently owned. Fabulous selection of all categories for adults, teens and children. And the friendliness of the staff is an added bonus. If you're visiting Bend, add this to your list of places to visit. And if you live in Bend, take the drive over to NW Crossing and check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

I love having an independent bookstore in my neighborhood! This one has a wide selection of winners and books by local authors. The seating areas are bright and inviting and the children's area is creative and full of wonderful titles. My husband and I joined the non-fiction book club sponsored by Roundabout Books and that is keeping our minds active. We also love the expresso drinks, the pastries, and the soup! Roundabout Books is an independent bookstore in Bend, Oregon. Located in the heart of Bend's NorthWest Crossing Community, Roundabout Books sells new books for both children and adults, provides a gathering space where everyone is welcome, and hosts author readings, storytimes, and book clubs. Our cafe serves coffee, tea, snacks, pastries, and quiche from a variety of local bakeries and vendors, as well as fresh sandwiches made in-house. In 2022, we added 1,000 square feet to our delightfully curated store, allowing for more café space, more cozy seating, a new children's area, and the expansion of several book categories necessary to meet the needs of our community.

History

Established in 2016.

Roundabout Books is an independently owned bookstore and cafe founded by local resident Cassie Clemans, a former teacher and business owner. The bookstore opened on October 31, 2016. Her vision is to enhance the life of our community by providing a warm and comfortable place where people of all ages are welcome to read, browse, shop for books, meet a friend, or enjoy an event.

Meet the Business Owner: Cassie C.

I moved from Phoenix to Bend in 2011 with my husband and three children. I founded Roundabout Books in 2016 because I love books and wanted a bookstore in my community. My family and I spent the last 13 summers exploring all of our National Parks together. The loss of cell service, the escape from everyday stresses, and the time together creating adventure while immersed in the wonder of nature made these trips some of the most cherished memories of my life. I love to read all manner of fiction, and the occasional nonfiction. I love coming of age stories like Donna Tartt's "The Goldfinch", or John Boyne's "The Hearts Invisible Furies". I love the intersection of literary and fantasy fiction, like Kazuo Ishiguro's "Klara and the Sun" or George Saunders' short stories. I love to read strong historical fiction like "Matrix" by Lauren Groff, "Great Circle" by Maggie Shipstead, or "Four Treasures of the Sky" by Jenny Tingui Zhang.
