I was visiting from out of town with a girlfriend of mine, and we both absolutely love to read. I had seen Dudley's on TikTok and knew we had to stop by this bookshop. Upon walking in, it had verifiably cozy vibes with its warm wood tones and cute decor. The books were lined along the walls, as well as the center, and behind that was a coffee and tea counter complete with a complimentary water station. The stairs to the second story have a book spine painted on each one, such a beautiful labor of love. And upon reaching the second story, impactful quotes lined the walls in chalkboards and posters. There are lots of little nooks and crannies up there in which to cozy up with a book with its open floor plan, bright large windows, and lush houseplants. There were a lot of people at tables studying and discussing, and you could tell this place is an often frequented and beloved gem. read more

This place is so cute! I got a chai tea and it was delicious! The baristas were so nice even passing out compliments okkk I see yall! The barista were super attentive. I got oat milk due to preference, but they made sure to disclose anything with even a touch of dairy whether it was for preference or something else. They also had some pastries that look delicious. This place is full of books! Upstairs is where you can find seating and windows looking out over downtown Bend also surrounded by books. I totally picked up a little mushroom watercolor print. I do have to say I could've easily taken home four books if I have the time! Go here get your coffee in your books, of course! read more

A friendly, welcoming bookstore in the middle of downtown. I love bookstores. Yes, you can buy books on Amazon but nothing beats walking around, seeing staff-recommended books, discovering new genres that you never ventured into before. They have both of and new books. They have some seating space upstairs where people seem to be working/studying and a cafe downstairs. As you can see from all the pictures, the decor is cute and reminiscent of old bookstores. If you're a lover of books, you'd enjoy this place. read more

I'm from Nashville and had heard about this cozy place from my sister in law. I was craving some alone time after being trapped in the house for a few days and this turned out to be my favorite coffee shop that I had been to in a long time. The book store has the most unique selection of titles, and the tables are nestled right up along side the shelves. It's an intimate atmosphere with a low key social vibe, unless you want to be left in a world of your own while enjoying the space. I ordered a chai latte (dirty) and the spices were amazing. Honestly I didn't expect much, but being new to the mountain area I had heard that Oregon coffee shops are to be taken very seriously. I got my drink and walked up the beautifully painted steps, with book titles on each one, and admired the story books and topical sections as a wanderer my way towards the seating upstairs. The store was quiet with an understanding of being allowed to loiter for hours or work on a class assignment. As a writer, I was enthralled by the opportunity to people watch. The seating was eclectic but I found my table of choice and set up. When I finally tasted my coffee drink, a wave of pure delight swept over me and nothing else mattered in that moment. By far and hands down, the best chai latte I've ever experienced. The shop got crowded at times which was a distraction but not as much as it should be because everyone was enjoying the moment and there seemed to be a festive vibe in the air. My only regret is that I didn't stay very long and I didn't get to come back before returning to Nashville. It if I lived in Bend Oregon I would find myself there about every other day. read more

I've never met a bookstore I disliked but I've also never found one half so incredible as Dudley's. Ask anyone who knows me--I'm a reader. I love books. Reading them of course but merely being around them is a pleasure. So any bookstore is "good" (christian versions being the notable exception, having zero value except perhaps in the case of a violent downpour) but Dudleys is the best I've ever seen. Powells, Green Apple, Santa Cruz...sorry guys, you're all bigger but this one takes the cake. Literally every section I viewed seemed to be comprised exclusively of titles that I really wanted to read. I'm pretty sure the only exceptions were old favorites. If I could recommend Dudleys more highly I would. Except I can't. Check it out. read more

My experience was with the bookshop portion of the business. My first reaction was that I wished the books were more deeply discounted and that the staff was friendlier. Perhaps I was there at a bad time. We spent the most time in the children's area upstairs and ended up purchasing two books. Since each was the first in a series, I checked to see if they had the complete set of books and they did not in either case. So this is a used bookstore with a fair amount of books in stock, but both the prices and selection put them in the middle of the pack compared to others I've visited in the area. The vibe is local and the space also seems to operate as a community gathering spot. I'll give them another shot the next time I'm in town. read more

My favorite book store ever... I always check out the "staff picks" section first off and quite often need go no further. When I'm looking for a recommendation, whether I speak with the owner or one of the fabulous staff members, I end up with a great read or two or three. Upon occasion the book I've wanted wasn't in the store and so they've easily ordered it in for me. To top it off, they have amazingly delicious gluten free chocolate chip shortbread cookies to go with a perfectly prepared latte. read more

Order before Wed and it'll be in the shop by Friday. Clean and well organized with hand sanitizer and plexiglass screen at the register for safety. With the second round of Covid restrictions in place I was looking for some more books to order. Rather than go with the giant online superstore I ordered several books through Dudley's website. I love how their website has many different recommendation lists. The books arrived very fast and were packaged perfectly to arrive in pristine condition. I am new to town and decided to check out Dudley's today. I have also decided that this is my new favorite place! I was there mid-afternoon and they were all out of the cold-brew for the day so my suggestion for getting in on that would be to get there earlier. My second option, the iced latte, hit the spot! The bookshop itself has a decent selection of books, local cards, posters, etc. They have plenty of tables and comfy chairs to sit downstairs and upstairs and there is great people watching. I really enjoyed the bookshelf upstairs with zines - self-published mini-magazines (not for sale) - because I think that they give a unique look into what the local community has to say about Bend. read more

My favorite book store in town. A great selection along with helpful staff makes it an easy experience. They do well at selecting books relative to our area. My favorite section is a tiny corner between the stairs and 2nd big room upstairs where the hold a vintage and classics sections where I just purchased Jane Eyre. If your book isn't in stock they can quickly order it for you and it will arrive promptly. Don't forget a tasty cappuccino to sit and read your new book with. read more

What a gem! This store is relaxing, quiet, smells good. Fast wifi, delicious food and high quality drinks. I got a dirty chai and worked on my laptop for a while. Soundtrack was A+ (Bonnie Raitt, quiet folk), friendly service. Air conditioned, so it's nice cool in the summer. Plus, a perk for equity-minded readers -- looks like at least 50% (or more!) books displayed are by women writers. Street parking looks crowded, but it's a Friday afternoon so that may not always be the case. Come here! read more

Didn't have what I came looking for, but was able to get it in within a few days and called to let me know it was in. Super nice bookshop. Great place to browse, sit and sip a drink or light eats. Unlike most bookstores, either new or used (and Dudley's is both), you have plenty of browsing space here. Dudley's is a fun little bookshop, that also provides a small coffee shop and community center vibe. The folks (on both sides of the counter) are friendly enough, albeit distant at the same time. Maybe one has to prove their Progressive Cred before they are properly welcomed. One would think that the ACLU card in my wallet would be enough? There is both disorder and charm within this 2 level enterprise. The selection is mostly used, at "all right" prices, and in various states of vertical or horizontal display. It was fun to browse around and consider the possibilities (especially within the Travel section). The next time I'm in town, I may linger around a bit longer. read more

This place is a dream for me. It's the place that I wish I owned in the city I wish I lived. Great selection of used books. I picked up a travel novel, a instructional guide (flying) and "Lincoln" by Gore Vidal. Lots of variety. The owner, who was fantastic, made me an iced tea, a blend made by one of her many local vendors. I overheard a local stop in, get a coffee and a book for her kids and then ask if the owner would be interested in selling some sort of handcrafted local item that she made at home (I can't recall what it was now...) and the owner agreed, set the terms right there and said they'd give it a whirl. You know where they can't do that? Borders or Barnes & Noble. This is a real, honest-to-goodness local store. And you should go. read more

We hung out here for a while. It's a cafe and bookstore. My Dad got a coffee and a book. The upstairs was really cool. There were old books and a typewriter and a nice open room with tables, chairs and a couch. We checked out some books on Oregon to see what else we wanted to do up here. The sofas were comfy and we took some time to relax and talk. It's a nice and relaxing place. read more

This sweet bookstore cafe always has something for me. I stop here each time I come to Bend and love their selection. Always good staff recommended books, a great and unique zine library upstairs, cozy atmosphere with group tables upstairs, and a good mix of new and used books. I somehow ended up on their email list years ago but I never unsubscribed because it is actually delightful. Overall a great local business. read more

Okay Bend, we get it. You're an outdoor adventurer's Disneyland. But you have some stiff competition in Dudley's, because this is the kind of place that you could enter in the morning in search for, oh I don't know, some Nitro cold brew, and not come out for hours and hours, completely forgetting that there's a Disneyland's worth of adventuring just outside. And here's why: it's a rare and dying breed of independent bookshop plus excellent coffee, plus practically perfect co-working space. It's warm and welcoming with free wifi and fresh baked goods. You'd visit four different places in search for all of the above, yet here Dudley's provides it in one completely precious package. And I can see why - with the competition of Disneyland just outside the doors, you've gotta do things right in the great indoors to get people to stay! Dudley's Bookshop Cafe is the coziest and cutest coffee shop and independent bookstore. They have a great selection of new and used books, as well as a local interest section. I have seen quite a few author readings on their calendar as well. Many groups meet here regularly in the upstairs attic area with multiple tables and couch seating. Their coffee and chai are delicious, and carry a delicious selection of fresh-baked pastries. My only request would be to offer some savory items, as I tend not to have much of a sweet tooth. This is in the regular rotation of my public work space, with a large conference table in the upstairs corner that is great for coworking, charging electronics, and gazing out the giant picture windows at the going's on in downtown Bend. read more
