Sylvia Pizza - Churro ice cream with Ferrero Rocher topping

Right out of the gate, delightful…read more Called in an order 8pm and the employee on the phone was friendly and funny. Their time estimate was correct and pickup went smoothly. Spent $30 on two vegetarian 12" pizzas and a further $8 on nonalcoholic drinks. We finished all but one piece of pizza which was a great breakfast, and it's easy to put away because the toppings were simple but pleasing and good quality. I'm not beholden to any one style of pizza, and want to say the thin crust here is outstanding. Delicate, chewy, airy, not overly filling. Ridiculous it took me this long to visit, but we're big cheerleaders now.

Decided to get pizza and I'm trying to stay mostly vegetarian -- thanks, gout -- and my spouse said…read morewe'd get pizza from Sylvia. We got two twelve-inch pizzas, a Neddy Veggie, and a Cheesy Dream. The former is a mushroom, bell pepper, red sauce, and basil pizza, the latter, essentially a white pizza margherita, namely, alfredo sauce, cheese, and basil. The Cheesy dream was great because there wasn't too much alfredo, and it went just right with the cheese and basil. The Neddy Veggie was great because it was not overly cheesy, but had plenty of mushrooms and bell peppers. But the star of Sylvia is the crust. Thin and hand stretched, the crust is chewy at the edges and just right. Seriously, this is now in my top ten pizza crusts of all time. I could eat the crust itself as a meal. The pizzas were delicious. But not only were the pizzas great, but when we called in the to-go order, the kitchen staff got the time that it would be ready down nearly to the minute. The staff were all quite friendly, and one person addressed me by name that he remembered from it getting called in. Seriously, if you like a good hand-tossed thin crust pizza, you can't do better than Sylvia. Highly recommend.

Pie Society is a really great spot to check out if you're just outside of San Antonio and looking…read morefor something a little different. One of my favorite things is that they offer pizza by the slice, depending on what they're serving that day -- and from what I understand, they always have pepperoni slices available, which is a plus. When you walk in, you can actually see them making the pizza from scratch, including hand-stretching the dough and tossing it in the air. It's a fun and unique touch that adds to the experience. They have a good amount of seating both inside and outside. Since this is Texas, outdoor seating can be a bit of a gamble weather-wise, but it's nice to have the option. Parking can be a little tricky, but when we went on a Sunday night, it wasn't bad at all. The service was great -- everyone was friendly, helpful, and very attentive, which made the visit even better. They also have a solid selection of alcohol and seasonal drinks, which pairs well with the pizza. For the kids, we grabbed a cookie, and it was very delicious -- definitely recommend it as a sweet treat after your meal. Overall, if you're in the area and want to try a place that's a bit out of the ordinary, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Pie Society and giving it a try.

Temperature was perfect on both the hot and cold options. The ingredients quality was good, the sauce generous on the wings (I know we all have different definitions of perfect on this, and I tend to prefer dry), all thoroughly cooked but not crunchy. Salad had all seven toppings--carrot, cheese, onion, bell pepper, tomato, mushroom, croutons--present and accounted for. Got three servings out of it as usual. If you're gonna portion it out over time or not eat it right away, just be sure to pull the croutons out before you put it in the fridge so they stay blissfully crunchy. It's worth it to sign up for the coupons, because occasionally they are GREAT. By text once a week and email less often than that which is below my annoyance threshold.

From the time of order to pick up to getting home was less than an hour. There's no way that slice is less than an hour old. I guess if you're going for their daily special be cautious, they must be pre-making items before they've been ordered. Called the store and not much was said.

We were in town for a conference and decided to try a local pizza spot big mistake. The guy at the counter (Asian/Hispanic appearance) acted stressed and irritated, even though I was the only customer and only ordered two pizzas. While waiting in the tiny lobby, I noticed roaches crawling around. When I pointed it out, he literally said, "Man, you are confusing me." At that point, I had already paid, so I grabbed the order and threw it straight in the trash. The cashier (same guy) was rude from the moment I walked in and acted like I was the problem. I doubt he's the owner or management, but if the business wants to survive, they might want to rethink who they leave in charge. Fortunately, Whataburger was right down the road. I should have taken pictures of all the roaches but didn't expect it and was caught off guard...I will return before I leave to get the photos... Save yourself the headache. In my opinion, this place is not worth your time, your money, or your stomach. You've been warned.
