$6.50 house salad without the included fresh roll and dressing. The full size salads must be impressive! Croutons are soft-ish. 14NOV25
Heather R.

We were coming down to the last meals of his visit and Mr R absolutely lit up when I asked if he wanted Valentino's again. He repeated his beloved veggie sub with its fried artichoke hearts and tried their Greek salad this time. I chose spicy mortadella and couldn't pass up the chance for us both to try the current feature, fried green tomato. The chips are back in the container with the subs (which can have varying results depending on how juicy your sub is, but they're undeniably tasty). Mr R was so happy with his veggie sub again and THRILLED with the Greek salad. At first I wondered if they used 'nduja but I believe I spied Calabrian peppers on the bread--whatever the source, a decent burn kicks in after a delay on the mortadella. A lovely cool slaw atop which proved pretty juicy. Very nice. If this is your first time with mortadella, know that frying it makes it exquisite and you should definitely try that sometime. But it was the fried green tomato sub* which had me sounding like a remake of When Harry Met Sally, the perfect golden fry on gently tart green tomatoes interspersed with chunks of feta and a light ripe tomato relish had me making sounds that would have been embarrassing if we'd chosen to eat at the restaurant. Mr R agreed when he got his half. That is definitely on the keeper list. Mr R said his real sugar soda was lovely. Outside of some chips and the last bites of spicy mortadella sub that became a cold morning snack, we cleaned UP and slept soundly on bellies full of the good stuff. Love, love, love it. *fried green tomato was their weekly special option; specials rotate out and may repeat someday or never be seen again. Have fun.

I was told a while back that I needed to try their Italian Sub, and mannnnn... this is quite possibly the best item on their menu! From the meat combination to the perfectly toasted bread to the not too vinegarry oils they use, this sammich was a surprise home run, & imho they have the best Italiano Sub in SM!

Val's pizza you mean the holy grail of San Marcos? Legendary pizza and fantastic vibes, personality I might get married at this place. Over all the staff is the shit and the food is far from shit.

We've been promising to try this pizza spot for over 2 years now. We stopped in today to give them a try. They have a nice cocktail menu and several beers on tap. The glass of red wine I chose was pretty bad. It was also ice cold, which should never be the case. I ordered the ricotta pizza without the onion. My husband ordered the usual pepperoni. We asked that our to go supreme be put in when our pizzas came to the table. Our server was very nice about taking the wine off of our bill as they were out of the second choice. Our pizzas came and my husband was very pleased with his pizza. Mine just needed something, maybe the onion that I left off? I'm not sure but I was very disappointed in my choice. We finished what we could eat and asked how the to go pizza was coming along when our server came by.... She didn't put the order in so we went ahead and cancelled it. We will give them another try at a later date as I believe they were just having an off day.

This place is FANTASTIC! Truly feels like you're in a pizzeria in NJ/PA/NY. All of the flavors were on point and it really hit home after that first bite. The prices are great and the happy hour lasts long enough for you to leave work and come back later in the evening. Will definitely be returning!

Awesome

We got a classic pepperoni and garlic knots on Friday evening. I like the thinness of the pizza, it was very seasoned so very salty, the cheese wasn't cheesing, and the garlic knots were hard. Almost like eating dried up play dough. Dr. Pepper was flat so switch to sprite. I did like the ranch and the marinara sauce. The atmosphere and service were good. I personally didn't enjoy the food and left disappointed and craving didn't hit. I could see it still being successful because of their location and ofc drunk college students enjoy a salty slice.

Well stocked bar!

I wanted to choose my own toppings and assumed cheese would be on it so I didn't choose cheese. They sent a text asking me to confirm that I did not want cheese on my pizza. I didn't see the text because I was driving there, but when I arrived they had not made it yet, since I didn't respond. That really impressed me. That was great customer service! It's a small place back in a corner, so I see how I missed it before. While I waited they let me sample a small cone of their homemade ice cream. It was chocolate cinnamon. It was not bad, but not something that I would have put together. The ice cream was creamy and it they had another flavor I would have bought some! I ordered a small pepperoni, with onions and peppers. They don't use green peppers but they had red and yellow. It was delicious. Their pizza doesn't come with a ton of toppings but the sauce and crust are so good, you won't miss it. I will be back for more!

Spent $30 on two vegetarian 12" pizzas and a further $8 on nonalcoholic drinks. We finished all but one piece of pizza which was a great breakfast, and it's easy to put away because the toppings were simple but pleasing and good quality. I'm not beholden to any one style of pizza, and want to say the thin crust here is outstanding. Delicate, chewy, airy, not overly filling. Ridiculous it took me this long to visit, but we're big cheerleaders now.

One of my favorite things is that they offer pizza by the slice, depending on what they're serving that day -- and from what I understand, they always have pepperoni slices available, which is a plus. When you walk in, you can actually see them making the pizza from scratch, including hand-stretching the dough and tossing it in the air. It's a fun and unique touch that adds to the experience. They have a good amount of seating both inside and outside. Since this is Texas, outdoor seating can be a bit of a gamble weather-wise, but it's nice to have the option. Parking can be a little tricky, but when we went on a Sunday night, it wasn't bad at all. The service was great -- everyone was friendly, helpful, and very attentive, which made the visit even better. They also have a solid selection of alcohol and seasonal drinks, which pairs well with the pizza. For the kids, we grabbed a cookie, and it was very delicious -- definitely recommend it as a sweet treat after your meal. Overall, if you're in the area and want to try a place that's a bit out of the ordinary, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Pie Society and giving it a try.

Temperature was perfect on both the hot and cold options. The ingredients quality was good, the sauce generous on the wings (I know we all have different definitions of perfect on this, and I tend to prefer dry), all thoroughly cooked but not crunchy. Salad had all seven toppings--carrot, cheese, onion, bell pepper, tomato, mushroom, croutons--present and accounted for. Got three servings out of it as usual. If you're gonna portion it out over time or not eat it right away, just be sure to pull the croutons out before you put it in the fridge so they stay blissfully crunchy. It was ready in exactly ten minutes as they advised, and it was beautiful. They give you the option of having your sandwich toasted. YES (I dream of being able to do this at Thunderclouds). Even after a cold few minutes' journey my dinner was still hot when I got home. There was more cheese, pushing into decadent, and I added green peppers as usual. A hint of garlic somewhere, bread's about the same, and right out the gate the meatballs are in the neighborhood of the best quality the original Sunny's offered in a decade's fluctuations. The price was still about the same; even with an add-on it was less than $9 cash and satisfying for a hungry adult. Staff were perfectly courteous and the place is spic and span as expected, having witnessed late night cleaners on premises several times over the weeks they took to reopen. I look forward to revisiting the rest of the menu again here, which includes bagels from the truck they recently ran on the other side of the convenience store.

While waiting in the tiny lobby, I noticed roaches crawling around. When I pointed it out, he literally said, "Man, you are confusing me." At that point, I had already paid, so I grabbed the order and threw it straight in the trash. The cashier (same guy) was rude from the moment I walked in and acted like I was the problem. I doubt he's the owner or management, but if the business wants to survive, they might want to rethink who they leave in charge. Fortunately, Whataburger was right down the road.
