Went again this weekend and tried something new. The fries are so good. Deep fried in beef tallow makes the flavor so good. The burger and fish were both good as well. The outdoor seating area is where it's at. Like you're sitting on the back porch with a nice view.

I have a very good friend that told me that we needed to check Rougeaux's out. He said the food was amazing and him and his wife have been several times. He said the Crab Cakes were amazing, but so was everything they tried and had enough to bring leftovers home for later! Well, we finally were caught up around the house for a change and the young one went with family to the Lufkin Zoo. Finally free, we headed down to Nome to try out Rougeaux's! We wanted to be there at, or shortly after 11:00 am. We arrived around 11:30 and there were people already filtering in! I noticed they had outside seating as well as inside seating, and as it was pretty breezy we chose to sit inside. We walked in and waited to be seated at a table per the sign inside the doors. The young lady who greeted us was very kind and showed us to a table with menus and silverware in hand. We got seated, got the menus, and she told us our waitress would be right with us! And she was!!! She introduced herself and her name was Jessica! We told her it was our first time and she welcomed us and told us that she hoped we liked it and gave us some tips, then took our drink order to give us time to gaze over the menu. She was right back with drinks and asked if we would like an appetizer? Oh yes, we wanted to try their appetizers, they all looked tantalizing, so we choose two! An order of 3 Boudain Balls and an order of Crabmeat stuffed jalapenos! She went to turn those orders in and came back and asked if we thought what we might want. The tips she gave us left is wanting to try it all!!! But we tried to act like we weren't starving and my wife ordered the Fried Shrimp and Oyster Combo and ordered a side of hand battered onion rings with hers. I ordered the Combo with Catfish and Oysters with the same side of Onion rings! Jessica was very outgoing and friendly and had a great personality! It wasn't long she was back out with our appetizers! My wife and I traded tasting both the Boudain Balls and the Crabmeat stuffed Jalapenos! They were both served with a really good homade Ranch Dressing and a pink dipping sauce called Le Mein I believe it was. Both were really great compliments to the appetizers!!! While we were trying the appetizers my wife noticed she had brought out some Boiled Crawfish to another table! So when Jessica came back to see how we liked our appetizers, my wife inquired about the Crawfish! Jessica said that their crawfish are some of the best and they are nice and spicy served with two potatoes and one corn on the cob. It sounded delicious, why not!!! So we told Jessica we wanted to split 3lbs of Crawfish!!! She came right back with them before our main orders came out and we started working on those crawfish!!! Oh, my goodness!!! Right now Rougeaux's is being batting . 300!!! Evening we have tried is better than just on point, is so really delicious! Then Jessica brings out main orders out and they both look just as amazing as the rest of the food we've already tried! Before we finished off the crawfish we both tried the onion rings! Another home run! And when we tried our oysters they weren't only cooked to perfection, but their Tartar sauce is really good!!! I compared it to what we make and theirs taste just like ours!!! I have the Tartar Sauce Recipe from Gaido's in Galveston and it's the best we've ever had. We didn't buy the store bought stuff. Their Tartar Sauce is right on point for taste, it's excellent! I'm a Tartar Sauce but while my wife favors Cocktail Sauce. They also bring you the Le Mein? Spelling might be wrong on this sauce, but it's good too! By the time we finished off the crawfish we were only able to eat one piece of my catfish and only a couple of the Oysters. Then we wanted to try what they had for desserts. Jessica gave us the rundown on desserts and we elected to split the Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake topped with pecans and a Carmel drizzle with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!!! So we wish went ahead and asked for two to go boxes at the same time!!! They have a really nice size menu and it really does ALL look good, so we want to come back in the near future and I want to try their Gumbo's, Crawfish platter, Half fried and half Ettouffee, and their Crab Cakes that I was told are the Bomb!!! The entire place inside and outside had a very nice ambience and is just really nice! I have to give Kudos to our waitress Jessica! Every little tip she gave us was right on point, it was all every bit as delicious as it sounded!!! We'll be back soon! Loved it!!!

Whenever my grandson comes to town, there's always a list of favorite spots he wants to revisit--and Rougeaux's in Nome, Texas, is always near the top. Located at 1525 Hwy 365, this hidden gem offers a cozy, country atmosphere and consistently flavorful Southern fare. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed, seated promptly, and taken care of by our attentive waiter, Christian. If you go, be sure to ask for him--his service for us was excellent. I never visit Rougeaux's without ordering their famous boudin balls cooked in beef tallow. Perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and savory on the inside, they're a must-try. And don't skip their house dipping sauce--it ties everything together deliciously. For his entrée, my grandson ordered a large garden salad topped with a blackened chicken breast, which he described as juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. He rounded out his meal with sides of green beans and coleslaw. I went with the blackened salmon topped with blackened shrimp, paired with fried okra and a side of coleslaw. The salmon was incredibly moist and packed with flavor--a dish I'd highly recommend for any seafood lover. What made our experience even more special was the personal touch: both the restaurant manager and head chef made their way around the dining room to check in with guests and ensure everyone was pleased with their meal. That kind of hospitality is rare--and very appreciated. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, take a short drive down Hwy 90 to Rougeaux's. Enjoy great food, friendly service, and a laid-back country vibe. And when you go, tell them you heard about it on Best Bites. #tastefullyherryb #bestbites

We went for a geocache in Sour Lake, but since I saw this place on The Beaumont Foodie YouTube channel, we decided to stop for lunch. Our wait person was Jessica, and she was amazing. Very helpful and attentive...she even upsold us on dessert to go! I had the shrimp po-boy and Mike had the Texas burger with onion rings. The shrimp were fried perfectly, not greasy at all. They were tender and yummy. The beef here is stellar, making the hamburger excellent. The onion rings were also good. My side was french fries, but I also ordered a side of cucumber-tomato salad. Everything in this establishment is tasty, fresh, and hot. We will definitely return! If you are within 40 miles of this place, stop in...you won't regret it!

After dining here, it's pretty obvious that alot of their food items are pre-cooked. It doesn't mean they're bad, or not fresh, it just means they like to prep to ensure their customers receive food in a timely manner. It is a little ironic though since they have a sign inside the dining room stating "Good food ain't fast and fast food aint good!". They do have a small prep area / kitchen to make meals, but it has short ceilings, limited space, and no vent hoods for exhausting steam/smoke. There are 2 microwaves in the kitchen area, if that gives you any idea. Not sure they even have an oven in their kitchen. The dining area is a beachy, tropical theme to fit the name "The Big Kahuna". Their menu is pretty simple, 2 pages with burgers and salads being their specialty. However, they have a weekly steam table special which consists of a meat, 2 sides and a roll for about $10. They also serve bbq, and some Mexican food and even chicken fried steak. Since they seem to specialize in burgers, I ordered a burger. Just traditional burgers here, no fancy toppings. The handformed patty is about 1/3 lb, and comes standard with mayo, lettuce and tomato, served on a Hawaiian sweet bun. I ordered their highly touted fresh cut French fries, which are a la carte and good. Portion size of the fries was a little on the small size. Overall I enjoyed this meal since the taste of the burger and fries were actually good. They didn't ask how you want your burger cooked though, which makes sense since it's a pre cooked patty. How do I know this? Because the burger came out less than 5 mins after ordering from the waitress, and was cooked at least medium well...faster than even some fast food restaurants I've visited lately! They do not have cheddar cheese, just some shredded American cheese blend, so no cheese for me. I did add bacon to my burger, and they initially forgot to add it after bringing the plate to my table. Luckily they remembered though, asked for the plate back, and placed it on the burger. Another complaint is that the bacon is crumbles, not strips. They apparently don't cook the bacon fresh and seemingly use a pre-packaged, pre-cooked product which was pretty salty. Bacon strips are preferred on burgers since they leave less mess on a plate at the end of the meal. I also ordered a sweet tea and a dessert before I left. On my tea refill, the waitress gave me unsweetened tea, which was strange. There were 3 bundt cakes on a cart beside the steam table with slices of vanilla, red velvet and chocolate. I chose the red velvet flavor and it was okay, but I've had better. Maybe the strangest part of the meal is that they give you a spoon to eat your cake!! In summary, the best part of the experience were the prices. The service, food quality, and taste /preparation of some menu items were a little questionable. This might be the reasoning behind the prices....not sure. Some items are just meant to be "cooked to order", and some you can get away with pre-made such as items on a steam table for faster service. I feel burgers should always be cooked to order at a sit down restaurant!
