A unique place tucked away on the bayou, atmosphere fits the bayou, live music, large capacity, fun thing with magnetic pogs at the bottom of each beer cup and then you pop the pog out and try and toss it up high on the wall and make it stick. Being I am a non drinker I had to steal one from my wife's two beers to play along but again unique. Food was a quality 4 out of 5 too. We had the chicken fried steak. This gem was recommended to us by longtime locals, and we were glad to take the 30 minute drive out through some of the prettiest vistas in what is otherwise congested concrete Beaumont city limits. This location is absolutely perfect on the bayou but for the last night of November it was too cold to sit outdoors and take in the ambience. We started with the onion straws, very nicely battered with a tempura light style fry, and an ample classic margarita-- light pour (sadly). He had the chicken fired steak while I enjoyed the grilled shrimp, great sides, tasty fresh salad and very generous portions-- there is definitely something for everyone here. Service was attentive without being cloying-- just right. We were a little early for the entertainment, otherwise that would make for a very nice evening and a very special occasion! read more

This one is out there. WAY out there. The Yelp address says "Beaumont", but it's actually in the tiny town of Labelle. It's a nine mile drive south of I-10, so I took Johnny Cash's song "25 Minutes To Go" and decomposed it to be "9 More Miles To Go": We are going to eat at Pine Tree Lodge, 9 more miles to go. If you want to go, you need to get out of Dodge, 8 more miles to go. It is located in the town of Labelle, 7 more miles to go. But the country gets so hot, it feels like H***, 6 more miles to go. It's a four mile drive past 365, 5 more miles to go. But the food is good, and the music is live, 4 miles miles to go. It's on the bayou, which you don't see much, 3 more miles to go. So that'd be a fun place to have some lunch, 2 more miles to go. It's the 30 mile an hour zone and so, 1 more mile to go. Now I'm turning left, and here I go-o-o-o-o-o-o-o . . . My wife had stopped speaking to me by "5 more miles to go." Pine Tree Lodge is Destination Dining. It has several large dirt parking lots, and they were all filling up. It has the feel of an old eatin' place in the Big Thicket, before I-10 was built and Beaumont was practically a company town for Big Oil. So it's a bit of living history. So why do people make the long drive to eat here? Is it the food, the experience of eating where the gators swim, the ambiance, or the live music? I think a little of all four. We were part of a group of eight from our Thursday night Ekklesia, and we experienced three out of four. One said, "Many times, we'll come here after church, and it's a lot quieter. Sometimes we buy gator bites, and toss them to the alligators." (My girl would say with a huff, "Are they cannibals?") It did get loud with the classic rock band playing on the patio and with no wall or window between us and the band. So you need to pick what day & time you'll be there, and make sure it's not a Monday or Tuesday. Okay, the food: Pretty expensive, but with that higher price, you get a LOT of food. Do not be surprised if you cannot finish it all. Gator bites: pretty good meat covered by a Cajun-spiced fried shell. I took one bite and pulled out all the gator. Nice spice. Fried mushrooms: I had none. But several in the group commented that they'd bite into it, and boiling liquid would fill their mouths. Hushpuppies: I have little experience with them. These were okay, I guess, tasted much better with Tabasco sauce. Steak burger: Rating Pine Tree Lodge by the food, this entree would send it into 6-star territory. The patty was far superior than any I'd had in my life, probably because it was more steak-burger than hamburger. Lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles were set to the side, put onto your burger what you want. A real winner. Fries: not that good. Mushy, and i don't like mush. I often laugh about the Awful Awful Burger at Reno's Nugget Diner, a half-pound burger sitting on a half pound of fries. Pine Tree Lodge's burger had more fries than burger. I couldn't finish the fries, and to be frank, I didn't want to (actually, to be Frank, I'd need to change my name from Ron to Frank). Blackened Shrimp with Pasta: The hunny had this. I asked her what she thought, and she said "It was real good." She's not one to elaborate. There was a large bar area between us and the patio. I'm like, whatever, but some in the Ekklesia saw some of the guys acting beyond inappropriately with the waitresses walking around. Two of us have a law enforcement background, and they really got their cackles up with this scene. I'd need to go to go to Pine Tree Lodge more to see if it should be moved up to five stars. As it is, I had a great time there, with the memory of the steak burger likely to remain with me for a while. Again, this is Destination Dining, and I recommend that you make it a destination of your own. read more

We came with a large group for a family anniversary. It was a mix of good and bad with food. Kids loved the outside with the alligators and turtles. The area was cool outside in spite of being a hot day. The food: the shrimp kisses were really good. The grilled shrimp were small but tasted fine. The alligator bites were really tough and my daughter couldn't finish her food. The street tacos looked really good. The hushpuppies were way over cooked and it seemed like everyone used them to feed the animals. The dessert was ok. The banana pudding didn't have any bananas and seemed only to have banana flavoring so that was disappointing. The cobbler was fine. Overall the food was ok, good things and bad things on the menu. Price is a little high for the quality. We will probably be back again for this get together but hopefully things get better. read more

I've heard a lot of good things about it and have been wanting to try it for a few years and we finally made it!!! I have to start with the ambience and views! I can't say enough about the Pine Tree Lodge! It's nestled in a bend in a little bayou with old Cypress trees and Cypress knees. There are Lilly Pads floating in front of the Cypress and along the banks and bend in the nation and I can hear CCR's Green River playing in my head!!! Also the Alligator's, Soft Shell Turtles, along with Red Eared Turtles and the occasional Alligator Gar swimming by! The restaurant is bullheaded on the edge of the bayou along with decking and tables at the waterside where you can watch the aquatic life while you dine!!! Our 8 year old was adamant we had a waterside table although it was a little breezy, the weather was overcast and the temps were just right!!! Our waitress whose name was Brayley was on top of her game and was promptly at the table once we were seated for our drink orders!! I started with a margarita and an ice water with lemon. My wife just had water, and our 8 year old had a Coke. She came back with our drinks and took our appetizer order of the Gator Bites with Hush puppies and an order of Onion Strings. It wasn't long when she returned with our orders while we were enjoying the scenery. The Gator Bites came with a Roumalade sauce that was very good! The Onion Strings came with a plain Ranch dip and also a spicy ranch! Both were very tasty!!! Our 8 year old really enjoyed the Gator Bites and we enjoyed both!!! Our waitress gave us time to work toward the end of our appetizers before she came back to take our dinner orders. Our 8 year old ordered the child's plate of catfish and fries. My wife ordered a combo of Grilled Shrimp and Fried Oysters and a side salad. I will say here that I didn't know where they got their pickled okra for the salads, but they were some of the best I've ever tasted! My wife offered me one to try and I'm glad I did!!! I also ordered the Combo with Fried shrimp and Fried Oysters with two sides of potato salad and Red Beans and rice. Everything we had was absolutely delicious!!! The red beans and rice were excellent as was the potato salad! I think I make a very good potato salad, but there was something about theirs that was just unique and it had a very good taste!!! My wife found out they had Oyster Shooters and we remembered the days when her dad would come down to where we used to live by Galveston Bay and we would make around of hitting all the good seafood places that had oysters on the half shell. One of the places we took him that looked out over the Bay had Oyster Shooters and we tried them. They are basically a raw oyster in a shot glass with a Bloody Mary poured over it! We loved them and would always hit that place on our rounds. We haven't done them since he passed 4 years ago so she ordered us a couple of their Oyster Shooters from here!!! You'll have to ask them to add the vodka here though and it is extra, but worth it! My wife got off at noon today and our 8 year old had a field trip day at school and we were able to check him out afterwards right after noon. So this is where we voted to go since he thought watching the Alligators would be a great topping for the day, he was right!!! Also it really starts to liven up around 5pm when people and their families start showing up after work. They have live bands and a dance floor where you can cut a rug if your in the mood! I'm going for four stars based on the ambiance. The venue is large and located on the river unfortunately we were there in the afternoon and the live music was at night. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating both covered and not. Our service was good. We started with appetizers including calamari which was very tasty and not chewy at all. My sister and I had the sangria which was full of fruit and very tasty. In the end my husband and I ordered the patty melt. Okay, but nothing to brag about and the fries were definitely from the freezer as was my side of okra. The other couple we were with ordered a burger and some sides, all seemed okay. I was invited to lunch with some mutual retired educators and it was the perfect day to sit outside eat and chat. I enjoyed my time there and the food was excellent. Our waitress was accommodating and we watched the alligators and turtles that swam in the water nearby. The atmosphere is so comfortable and fun. This place is a bit out of the way, but well worth the ride. We ordered appetizers to start and they were on point. We shared the shrimp kisses which are bacon-wrapped shrimp, with cheese and jalapenos. These are an absolute favorite. A perfect blend of savory and spicy. We also had mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, and onion rings. All of these are true family favorites and are excellent starters before a meal. For my entrèe, I order the grilled catfish with two sides. My sides were green beans and coleslaw. I loved the fish. It was seasoned well and grilled perfectly. The coleslaw was surprisingly delicious. It had small pieces of pineapple in it that gave it a slight sweet taste. I loved it. The green beans has pieces of real bacon that gave it a real homestyle taste but the beans were a tad overcooked. I'll try something else next time. I heard the desserts are bomb but we were too stuffed to indulge. The presentations of everything was inviting and mouthwatering. We picked a perfect day for lunch. I will return and I recommend this place for lunch or dinner. If you're looking for a restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere with equally good food and hospitality please check them out. It's a great place to relax over some bayou waters. Don't forget to save a hushpuppy to throw to the gators. They have plenty of parking space and are open Wednesday through Sunday.
